  1. 100% agree. I think Aguilar would be a great guy to have as a PH, but obviously you can't eat up a roster spot for that. Same with Thames, although if Braun starts at 1B, and serves as the 5th OF, maybe Thames can get enough ABs to justify sticking on the roster. It's a stretch. As far as Domingo goes, I think it just depends what you get for him. The guy can hit, and has the potential to get better. I have been harping about having a great defensive OF for years now, so believe me I don't want Santana in RF again. But I would rather have that than giving him away for far less than what he is "worth." If that's the case, let Mav marinate for a little while yet, maybe Santana's stock goes up. But yea, Yelich/Cain/Phillips with Broxton as the 4th OF would be nice.
  2. They signed Cain, traded for Yelich, sent off some top prospects, and they're likely not done. So the window has opened. Maybe it's just semantics, so put another way they want to seriously compete for the playoffs this year. That said, the window could close at various point at least temporarily- as early as this season. I mean, they could trade for Kershaw and that still won't matter if Anderson and Nelson don't repeat last year's performance. How long is the window open? Impossible to predict, just way too many variables.
  3. That was Doug Melvin. Stearns brought in a whole new paradigm. Actually that was Mark A. But either way, analytics were just coming into acceptance back then. Melvin was one of the first to buy in, using defensive shifts in a big way as an example.
  4. If Ryan.....Braun plays one.....inning at 2B.....I will buy you a $14 beer and......unlimited nachos
  5. Why a misdirect? He said they talked about 2B. That's it. As far as 1B goes, that remains a viable option whether Santana is traded or not.
  6. Agree 100%. Back when we still had Brinson I dreamed of the day we would have a fast athletic OF across the board. This would leave Aguilar as the odd man out, but someone has to go. If Phillips hits enough, he would backup CF and OF as well. Ideally Phillips would just rise up and take RF, and Braun gets his ABs planning at 1B and backing up the corner OF.
  7. Given our current lower payroll, i wish those salaries were revered, starting at 17 million this year and ending at 13 million in 2022. If only we had local media that followed the Brewers, they could ask why not move a huge chunk to 2018. Wait, we do....sort of.
  8. Call me crazy, but I believe that's contagious as well. Don't get me wrong, it's not going to turn Perez into a walk machine. One of those things that's tough to prove, but I do think there's an effect.
  9. My guess is trading one of their 5 catchers for not much of anything. Or getting a mediocre pen guy for a lower level prospect or two. Broxton could still be traded too but I don't think he would refer to that as minor.
  10. I think they really believe Villar will bounce back. He actually did start turning it around at the end of the season. If that fails, Sogard and Dubon until they find someone. Same way they got Walker last year. Not ideal, but workable.
  11. Why didn't they start with Santana? Other teams know the Brewers need to unload him now. Not doubting Stearns, but there's got to be a reason why?
  12. Stearns in a hurry to get these done before fanfest ; ) Deal for Santana absolutely must be done already right?? I mean otherwise couldn't they agree with Cain but wait a few days to announce?
  13. Big question is, will CC refer to him as "Yelly" or Yelichy?"
  14. You sound like you're on the same roller coaster I'm on. Initial reaction hate it. Calmed down a bit now, and by tomorrow who knows I'll probably love it.
  15. Miller Park will bring some huge benefits for Yelich, and I think we will be happy to have him for three years. maybe four on the outside (I assume he will be flipped later). That said... the price tag is way high. Brinson - I expected him to go, wasn't as high on him as some others here. Diaz - I really liked his OBP skills. Trent Clark/Grisham or Michael Reed were the only two who were clearly better. Harrison - In some ways, I am OK with this. He'd been hurt a lot before 2017, but I felt Stokes, Phillips, and Santana were all better. Stokes could very well be starting out in AAA this year. Yamamoto - This one really stings. I had him ranked far above Ortiz, Peralta, and Ponce. He looked like a Davies type. Honestly, I wish the Crew had taken Starlin Castro off the Marlins' hands and tried to use that to swap out Yamamoto for Bickford. They are also banking that Hirua's elbow doesn't go south on them. You missed the obvious. Stearns refused to include Suter in this deal. That has to be a positive!
  16. Not sure, but probably because of the slanted way you phrased that.
  17. Before we get excited, any video of Yellich crying after being told of the trade?
  18. I dismiss this notion of we have "x" number of players at a position, so big deal. Its is a big deal, you still want max return for them. Look, I like Yelich. A lot. But no, I don't think he's special. Brinson/Diaz fine. Adding Harrison and Yamamoto (very underrated here) is a bridge too far.
  19. Well, that's the problem. He's not a special player.
  20. "Not only did the team make more money by lowering the prices" This was a direct quote from the article. It literally says that the team is making more money. I think Darren Rovell is probably financially aware enough to differentiate between revenue and profit. It's not clear. The phrase "making more money" could be used either way. The later phrase of "spent 16% more" seems pretty clear though and contradictory to the other end. IDK for sure, I think they should clarify. I think it was a poorly written article that left it vague. Maybe there is a local ATL article out there with more details. Yea, bottom line is this wouldn't make sense for the Brewers to do for 81 games. Weekend games in the summer, Cubs series, etc. they don't need to cut prices. But if they do it for games in the middle of the week- especially in April, May I do think it would attract more fans. Concessions may be a loss leader, but still worth it to bring in a few thousand more fans for those games. Unless they just wanted to be "nice" and cut costs in half for all concessions all the time, that would be cool too.
  21. "Not only did the team make more money by lowering the prices" This was a direct quote from the article. It literally says that the team is making more money. I think Darren Rovell is probably financially aware enough to differentiate between revenue and profit. Not necessarily, I have no idea who he is. But 16% increase in sales means they made more revenue, not more profit. I mean, that's basic. And if they only had a 16% increase in sales while slashing prices, there's no way profits were higher.
  22. Finally actually read the article. Headline is wrong, if they increased sales by 16% that's not "making more money." Doesn't mean it's necessarily a bad idea, but they're definitely making less money on concessions.
  23. I could see the Brewers trying something like this for Mon-Wed games to help drive-up attendance. Half price concessions/parking would be a pretty good promotion to run during the middle of the week, especially in April, May.
  24. It's interesting, because you would think it would be the reverse, will all the people cutting the chord. I would think they would be more eager to keep customers. Oh well, I'll let you know what I find when I play the game with Spectrum/Charter/TWC or whoever they are by the time I have to make that call in August.
