  1. I think I agree with you but does anyone have any data or factual evidence that many moves occur so close to the season? I am trying to remember previous years but do not remember a lot of movement other than people being let go and others trying to pick them up and stash them. This year is different though. Look at how many FA are still out there and players that are pretty widely knows to still be on the trading block. Nothing more than my hunch, but I won't be surprised if we see more deals done in April than ever before.
  2. Yes! Baseball is not the NBA or NFL. It is not a non-stop action sport designed to be over in a specified time. If casual fans don't like it, speeding it up 10-15 is going to make no difference whatsoever. And that's IF these rule changes worked. As others have said, plenty of ways for a team to stall for a reliever to get ready, etc. You also make a good point about strategy. Pitcher/catcher need to talk at times. Manger/PC needs to go out to talk about setting up the infield, how to pitch a guy at a crucial point, etc. Just because one Cubs catcher is over the top doesn't mean rules need to be changed for everyone.
  3. This is what I'd go with too, maybe flipping Villar and Arcia depending on who's hot. This looks right to me too. To START the season. Anything can change, and act accordingly. When Thames starts, put him in 5 spot, take Braun out, and bump up Shaw and Santana a spot.
  4. Sample is too small to even know if the LH/RH splits are real. Just watching his ABs, I would say they probably are, but that's still somewhat of an unknown. As a coach once said " a LH hitter can't hit LH pitching until he does." So Thames could improve there, just as he could fall off and not hit much at all. He is a hard one to figure out. But the bat plays, so he will be in the same boat as Villar and others. Produce, and he'll get more starts.
  5. That's how I see it. Broxton is an MLB player. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled a Gomez and put together one great season. But there are better options now, so I'm fine with him as the 4th OF or as things stand today in AAA. He "should" have value, and I wish they could trade him for 2-3 lottery ticket types like the Lind deal. It's Aguilar and Phillips that bother me the most. Phillips is ready, and with his arm/defense and LH bat he would be a really nice fit. But injuries happen, a deal could still happen- even in April yet. Then there's Aguilar. I'm much higher on him than most and will be very disappointed if they just have to dfa him and get nothing back. I mean, I would make a bet today that he will have a higher OPS+ than Thames. But of course Thames is LH, so he fits better with Braun playing 1B. All of this is going by where the roster stands today, and I still expect more moves to be made.
  6. Ok, but you won't like it. Near 100% revenue sharing, and a hard salary cap. Nothing else will come close to addressing the competitive inbalance. (Also international draft but that pales in comparison.)
  7. All of those things would be good for the players, but I don't see how any of them would help the Brewers compete against the big money teams.
  8. Why would a person do that? If you could get $500 each for $100 seats you'd sell them for $100? Just being a nice person I guess? I sell tickets for face for concerts/sports because I don't like making the effort to rip people off for a profit on something I had no part in creating. You have a right to feel the way you feel about this. But to imply someone isn't "nice" because they want to sell tickets for market value is a bridge too far. If you were fortunate enough to buy a Super Bowl ticket for face value (say $1,000) and you had the chance to sell it for $5,000 you wouldn't do that?
  9. I still think Perez could be moves as well. With all the OF, really don't need him to back-up there. With Sogard able to play SS, and Villar able to play 3B Perez becomes redundant. Plus they are really high on Dubon who may/ may not be ready at some point this season. (Not to mention there's always a couple vets stashed away in CS in case of emergency.) You would think Perez would have value. He's the type of player that probably has more value at the trade deadline, but even now there must be teams who would value his versatility. That would allow them to keep Phillips or Aguilar.
  10. I think that's the assumption, if Santana is traded Phillips is the perfect 4th OF. But either way, Phillips is the only LH of all the OF remaining and can play all 3 positions at a high level defensively- that's what makes him a perfect fit.
  11. Not necessarily. In theory, the Brewers or one of the other Darvish suitors could say "We're tired of waiting," and sign or trade for a different pitcher/pitchers. If they pull their offer, it decreases his leverage, and if there are only 1-2 other teams after him, then he's hurt his market by dragging his feet. True, that would be the downside. Except the Darvish camp knows darn well that isn't going to happen. At least not yet. If 2-3 suitors move on to get a deal done with Cobb, Lynn etc. they will know about that and finish up a deal with someone. I can't imagine Darvish is just left hanging and has to eat a lessor contract due to waiting too long, that's not going to happen.
  12. Not that bad. Jury is till out on Vaughn. Maker is already a contributor and can still get much better. Side Show Bob? Yea, I didn't like that pick at the time, and still don't like it.
  13. Mr. Heat is gone for good. Again. Maybe? I don't know that Darvish doesn't want to play for a MW team, or small market team, etc. As I said earlier, my guess is his agent realizes the Brewers are offering X, only a matter of time before one of the big boys tops that offer. So it's worth waiting, no downside.
  14. it is but I'd be willing to bet 90% of the teams in the league have a similar list. Also, injuries to Rogers and Jones can't really be labeled a bad draft pick? And it's not like Jeffress or Odorizzi are busts.
  15. That is my guess. The Brewers have made the best offer, because it would make sense then why they're holding out. Honestly, if you were his agent and the best deal on the table is from the Brewers wouldn't you wait to see what the big money teams will do when push comes to shove?
  16. Vaughn and Maker are still very young, it is way too soon to say "X" is better than them. Also, it's not Vaughn's fault he's buried on the bench. Part of that is he was blocked. Who knows, if he can get 20 minutes a game now maybe he'll show he's already better than we think. But again, either way, we're talking about young guys here.
  17. Keep in mind no trade (or any move) is done in a vacuum. Sticking to my fantasyland for a minute, they could trade Santana for McKenzie. That would allow them to trade Barnes as part of the package to TB for Archer (if that's what they wanted to do.) Now the OF is still set, you've added a solid SP for a few years, and gained a TOR type guy in McKenzie who's only a couple years away.
  18. He was using examples I thi k, remember he's still saying trade will be with the Tribe. I'm taking that as my dream for McKenzie is still alive.
  19. If you think Maker is horrible, I won't convince you otherwise. I don't think he is. Check that, I think he was earlier this season but he has been playing better over the last few weeks. If he does nothing else, when he's active on defense he adds value on that end of the court. His length creates problems. I also don't care how old he is, because it doesn't matter. Whether he's 16 or 60, he's had very limited experience playing ball at a high level, and his body is still not NBA ready yet. So it's way to early to think he can't improve.
  20. I thought the "general public" liked fast games? A 2-1 game is likely to be your 2 /1/2 hour variety. Hard for me to keep track of what the general public wants I guess. Me? I love baseball. A huge part of baseball is strategy, and most of that is eliminated by adding the DH. I would much rather see a 2-1 game in the NL, vs a 12-8 game in the AL. If I want to see that, I can go visit my local softball diamond. So, yes, I hate the DH. I hate instant replay. Yet both are here to stay, and DH in the NL will be here soon enough I'm sure.
  21. That would not be reviewed even today, since it wasn't called a fumble on the field right? I don't know, it's confusing keeping up with the instant replay rules. There's no going back now, but too bad all sports can't eliminate all instant replay. It's so unfair.
  22. I wonder if some of the people saying Thon is worthless were the same ones saying Henson was worthless a couple months back?
  23. I loved that Collinsworth called out the two Eagles tds. Clement' s td we have seen that play called incomplete so many times. Ertz was maybe a little better than 50/50 but again would not have surprised me if it was overturned. But good for Collinsworth. Guarantee he will get heat behind the scenes from the league but he didn't sugar coat it.
  24. Eliminate DH in both leagues. DH is not baseball. It's close, but not baseball.
  25. Welcome back Jabari, I know you've had two knee surgeries and this is your first game back. So yea....we're going to need you to play 48 minutes tonight.
