  1. Instant Replay= Waste a bunch of time and still get it wrong.
  2. No, that still won't make me happy. What would make me happy is if TT drafted better. He's over-stayed his welcome by 4-5 years already. As for Watt, of course the Packers should drafted him. He's exactly the type of LB they needed, and have needed for years. But to this day I don't think anyone in GB knows what type of players are need to play the 3-4.
  3. Yesterday CC was crazy for sitting Santana. Oh wait....he was resting his back. Now we're nitpicking where Thames bats in the line-up? Arguments that he's hot, if that's your argument why wouldn't you want him to have the best odds at getting more ABs? Braun, Shaw, and Santana have been hot enough too. A week or two ago nobody even wanted Thames in the line-up at all. I swear most of the gripes in here turn out to be flat out wrong. Yet rarely do I see someone own up to it, they just move on to the next complaint. Can we try to at least wait until CC or a player actually does something stupid in the game before we start complaining?
  4. He was better at those outside pitches until this year. Just a guess, but maybe Braun has decided to make an effort to drive those pitches to scare pitchers off that outside corner.
  5. Why is he our #3 hitter for the foreseeable future? Over the course of the next couple seasons, if there are better options Braun can be moved down the line-up no? As far as this season, no it's not a season from a "special" player. But still productive enough numbers that he's certainly not hurting the line-up. In fact, if he could produce those type numbers for the next 3 years, I would be thrilled.
  6. My question for the good doctor. If this is your prognosis, why is everyone laying down for the Cubs?
  7. Don't confuse us with facts. Craig Counsell is the worst manager ever.
  8. I would, yes. Except Hader and Wilkerson/ Jungmann would be in the rotation along with Anderson, Davies, and Woodruff. Then at some point Nelson is back (hopefully) and Burnes can come up after Super 2 has passed. Then at the end of the year, or to start 2019, add Peralta. Possibly Ortiz will be ready. Cheap, controllable starting pitching, and see if one or more can be really good. That's what I want to see over the next two years, not more Suppan/Lohse/Garza/Chatwood. Use that money on a bat when the time is right. That right time could even be a 2B this off-season, or maybe a 1B/3B next year.
  9. I still don't understand how a SS doing back flips is not a violation of the Cardinals Baseball Etiquette Handbook. Or neck tattoos for that matter.
  10. IF they win tonight, they're 80-70. No matter what else happens, this team has over-achieved. Going with 3 1/12 starters right now and they're still winning series. I guess that's why I can't go ballistic in the IGT, I'm still not expecting them to make the playoffs, so as long as they/re in it I'm enjoying it!
  11. Yes, this very well could happen and we could be stuck like 70% of the rest the league and not have a good quarterback. That being said, you just never know who the next guy will be and what he will be surrounded with. I don't particularly think Russel Wilson is that great but he's good enough to win a SB and play in another. There are just too many variables to say that after Rodgers retires, it'll be downhill. People thought that of when Favre was nearing the end too. For me, doesn't matter who the next QB is. That doesn't change the fact we had two HOF QBs over 25+ years with only 2 rings to show for it. Yea, I know it's not that easy, but doesn't make it any less dissapointing for me.
  12. Not all their fault, add Ted Thompson too. This really is the same team they've been for years now. A very good team, especially when Rodgers is at his best. But they haven't gotten better. Injuries, bad calls, yada yada yada. This isn't about one game, I've been saying for years it's time for a change. Thompson, McCarthy, and Capers are all good at their jobs. Let's get that out of the way. But in professional sports, sometimes it's worth changing just for the sake of change. This team still doesn't know how to blitz. It's obvious every down how many are rushing and where they're coming from. Not disguised whatsoever. Secondary still gets exposed over the middle over and over again. 3-4, nickel, psycho, turbo, whatever gimmick they want to use results are the same. Offense is predictable too. Hurry-up really isn't most of the time. 3 TE, a RB who is a receiver, a WR who can run the ball...so many weapons with so little imagination. Oh, and Thompson. To this day I really don't think he understands what type of athletes are needed for 3-4. Year in, year out a parade of mediocre LBs and "rush" guys come and go. No depth on O line, and same old same old in the secondary. That's why I 've wanted a change for along time. Fresh take on things, revamp both sides of the ball, new message for a different messenger.
  13. Hoping Hader is a starter. No thank on Guerra. Add Suter and Taylor Williams. Of course the way bullpens go lots of guys will come and go.
  14. The NFL is not a good comp because the "currency" of the NFL is QBs. Whoever has the best QBs are guaranteed to be perennial contenders. Salary cap has nothing to do with getting the best QBs. They have to be drafted and then are simply just given massive contracts. They are never traded and never become FAs. The "currency" of baseball however, is money. But I would not say we at a massive disadvantage, our disadvantage is that it is literally impossible for us to sign top tier free agents. No matter how much we can afford a bigger market team can just pay more. These days it seems like most FAs are getting their big paydays after some of their primes so it doesn't hurt as much to miss them. We can still trade for these guys so we can at least have a hope to get them when it might really help, like Sabathia. Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, Carson Palmer, others a step below that level.
  15. All of that is true, but you still can't wear their hat.
  16. Were talking about 2.5 games, not 12.5. That wouldn't be an epic collapse. In fact, what's the Rockies strength? Hitting. Look at some of the parks they'll be visiting. Won't take a miracle.
  17. Unfortunately, unless a bunch of our young players are flops, the time to spend big money is the next 2-3 years. There won't be money available for larger-contract external free agents starting in about 2020. Curious why you say that? $20mm more freed up then with Brauns contract dropping off.
  18. I don't like the idea of spending big money or top prospects on a SP until we know what our biggest needs even are. What if Hader and Burnes get the opportunity in 2018 and look like keepers for the rotation long term, and Peralta continues his march towards the rotation? Now you've already gone out and bought a SP under contract for years. Instead, maybe they sign or trade for a bat or two after next season. Point being, we still don't know what we have here. Rebuilding has just begun, and IMHO the time to spend big money and/or top prospects are when you have a much better idea that what's being added is needed the most.
  19. Or, he slipped on the bag. Does everything have to be overanalyzed? Had he slid, he wouldn't have "slipped." No, but he could have slid past the bag which also happens all the time these days. This just in. Wang sighting.
  20. Can we get a source that you have for this information? How do you know what those guys are doing? Good point, and besides the topic is 2018 rotation. There is already another thread devoted to the rotation for the remainder of this year.
  21. Agreed. With Nelson out it looks like this: Anderson Davies Woodruff Hader Wilkerson/Jungmann Wow, baseball is strange. Even here where we disagree on everything, I doubt a few months back anyone would have predicted Anderson on the top of this list. (Or even 2nd if you want to put Davies at the top.) Still not convinced Hader is a starter, but let's find out. Then Wilkerson and Jungmann can battle it out for the 5th spot. Even Guerra, I'm fine with having him compete for the 5th spot in March. Darkhorse is Burnes. Who knows, maybe they decide to have him in the rotation right out of ST. If not, if he's still pitching well, we will see him sooner rather than later in 2018. Peralta, Ortiz, and others just too many factors to know if/when they join the team next season. Finally, I fully expect Stearns to have a cheap veteran flyer or two in camp and maybe trade lower level prospect(s) for one.
  22. We have no idea. None. The Dodgers of all teams in the middle of a horrible losing streak, the Tribe can't lose. Plenty of games left for almost anything to happen. The Brewer could pass Cubs, Rockies, and Cards or they may be nowhere close by the time this is all done. Over the years a lot of crazy things have happened in the last week of the season, let alone THREE weeks.
  23. For 3 or 4 games, a cobbled together bullpen game is extremely likely to produce about the same results as a "good" pitcher that Nelson is. Now, the Brewers' bullpen is not as deep so I'd lean towards slightly worse but I don't understand why some of you guys are laughing me off. I'd never do it for the bulk of a season but I think 2 innings of Garza + the bullpen would allow 3-4 earned runs over 9 innings if you gave it a large sample of games which...is what Jimmy Nelson + 2-3 innings of bullpen would give you. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to throw Hader in in the 4th inning when Votto, good righty such as Duvall, Scooter, and Schebler come up? Nelson is a very good pitcher but I'd rather have Hader in that situation. No, I don't think it's crazy for a short time frame like this. But I see two problems. One, you are burning up an outing from Hader and others automatically. It's go time, but you still need to be careful with how often you trot Hader out there. Swarzak can't pitch every single day either. So, when you know going in you'll have to use these guys, that's one other game you won't be able to use them. Also, whenever you go with the Johnny Wholestaff approach, the more relievers you use, odds are one of them will have a bad night. And with this offense, one bad inning is all it may take. I think what we'll see the remainder of the way is a quick hook for the SP regardless of who it is, as opposed to planning in advance to have a certain pitcher go only 3 innings. If someone is rolling, why take him out after 3.
