  1. Problem is, none of those options have been above MLB average. So CC is trying different combinations, and hopes he finds the hot hand down the stretch. That's not ideal, but I get it. I mean, if Villar is .10-.20 OPS points above Thames since the break, .720 still doesn't scream "play me every day." I fully expect Villar to get another run of games here, and hopefully he produces and we never look back.
  2. When you use exclamation marks and all caps, it certainly looks like you really believe what you said. If you didn't, perhaps put it in blue.
  3. If Counsell starts Garza, and it costs them a playoff spot in the long run, Counsell should lose his job!! Garza should not pitch again this year unless it is mop up innings one way or the other. He NEEDS to be done! Any managerial decision to start Matt Garza should cost that manager his job. What if Garza starts and has a good outing? Does Counsell still lose his job or does he get to keep it? Just trying to keep track of all this. I'm guessing players will lose all respect for CC if he names Garza starter, and he'll be fired. Then Garza has a good outing, players respect CC again and he is re-hired. Garza gets a 2nd start, gets rocked. Now CC, Stearns, Uecker, and Hank the Dog are all fired. Players lose respect for Ed Sedar and Jerry Augustine, but they keep their jobs. Finally, players DO respect the Italian Racing Sausage, but he's fired anyhow.
  4. You should have kept it to the speaking for yourself part. By all accounts Garza is highly respected among the players, so they're not going to lose the players trust by starting Garza. During the course of a 162 games season there are many instances where players for any team may not agree with a decision that is made. Would take a lot more that starting Garza to lose the players trust. With all that said, please no more Garza. I'm guessing that not all 30+ players(I wonder if Sogard has "great respect" for him?) on that team want to see the ball handed to a guy that can't get out of the 3rd inning. You can have great respect for someone and still not want to see them get the ball every 5 days. If it costs them in a big spot, it will have a definite effect on how they view management. And it should. There is just no reason to put Garza out there right now. Either he is hurt or he is finished as a pitcher. A a semi-supporter, I hope it's that he's hurt because it's sad when a player falls off a cliff. You have no earthly idea if that is true, and I really doubt that it is. All we heard at the trade deadline from some is how they lost the team because they didn't get a Starting Pitcher. Now they'll lose the players trust by starting Garza? I realize that's how YOU would feel, but don't project how you feel on professional players who have learned to roll with the punches. If Cravy was up, he may have a problem with it I guess...I'll give you that.
  5. Two take-aways for me: 1) A win is a win in week 1. And actually, the offense actually looked sharper than they usually do the 1st week. 2) No serious injuries. NFL season is a war of attrition, every week you come out pretty much un-scathed is a big plus. No opinion really on the defense. Yes, they had a great game, but let's be honest, they weren't really tested. We will find out more next week.

  7. Haven't seen it anywhere, so just guessing, but I have a feeling FREDDY Peralta and Burnes are shut down for the season. After Anderson, Davies, Woodruff I see three viable options for two spots. Only a couple days off the rest of the way, so I think they really need to go with 5 in the rotation. 1) Wilkerson 2) Jungmann 3) Suter/Hader tandem The more I think about it, not sure I even have a strong preference for which two I want to see. Any one of those options could really come through or implode.
  8. Agreed. No more Garza, no more Guerra. Not interested in Jungmann much either. Wilkerson should get the nod for sure. #5? No idea Peralta and Burnes are at with pitch limits, would love to see either. Otherwise maybe Suter/ Hader combo to get you through 6 innings. Also, for those of you saying it's over.....nonsense. wasn't over when Anderson went down, or when Guerra turned out to be bad all year. Wasn't over when bullpen was imploding seemingly every night. And it wasn't over for the past couple months when they have struggled to score more than 2 runs a game. Baseball, in fact sports in general are unpredictable. For all we know, offense heats up the rest of the year, Wilkerson steps right in and pitches great, who knows. What I do know is a win tomorrow puts them 2 games out of 1st.
  9. Yea, I don't care about the "earning it" part either. But at this point, I can't see a good reason for Wilkerson NOT to replace Garza. Rebuilding year, or if they're tied for 1st- doesn't matter. I just don't want to see Garza get a another start, and Wilkerson seems to be the most logical person to take his spot at this point. I don't see a downside. And no, I care not what happens to the Sky Sox in the playoffs. They can always use Burnes , Ponce, Peralta, whoever. But the Sky Sox are there to support the Brewers, not the other way around. As for Garza, if they feel it necessary to let the veteran save face, throw him on the 10 day DL. Strained quad, bruised ego, whatever.
  10. Congrats to Danny Jansen being named 1st team Catcher! Danny is an Appleton kid, and I'm rooting for him!
  11. That's it in a nutshell. If Braun, Shaw, Thames, and Santana are supposed to be the 4 best hitters, none of them have been hot down the stretch. In fact, I think Braun has a lot to do with this. If he hits the way he has in the past, maybe that sparks the guys in front of him and behind him. I said it a while ago, but I would be more than happy if someone through a good deal to us for virtually any of our position players not named Arcia.
  12. Also don't have time to look, but curious what their OBP is with 2 strikes. As you said, I think for the most part they seem to see enough pitches. But then chase once they have 2 strikes. More walks are a cure to so many problems.
  13. I would continue to do what they're doing right now. Start the season with both Villar and Walker. Villar can also play other positions (not well, but can play them) and Walker can play some 1B- especially if they move Thames. I'm not a huge Villar fan, but sometimes a player makes adjustments. If he can even get close to his 2016 form, that would work. He's young enough and cheap enough to find out. Dubon can wait, let's see how he does in the 1st half of the season in CS. I'm not ready to say he can be a starting 2B in MLB, or if he's the second coming of Sardinas. He just turned 23, so we have a little more time to find out.
  14. Sorry, but that's really being naïve. If Stearns (or any GM) knew in advance which players will outperform others with certainty, that GM would win the WS every year. Every, and I mean EVERY personnel decision carries risk. Not to mention, I still think it was the right move as Villar will turn out to be a better player than Gennett.
  15. It's not always as easy as "just put him in the pen." He would be no different than Torres, Barnes, everyone else people constantly complain about. His value is that of an emergency starter. I think he's better than Espino, Milone, etc. What you would get is a starter who may go 6-7 innings one day and have really good results, then a mediocre start or two, probably an awful start mixed in. Wilkerson (and Jungmann for that matter) serve a purpose next year if they're both still around. Guys that come up and spot start, or even go several starts if needed.
  16. I have no problem with someone using RBI to judge a player. Personally, I don't consider RBI, but won't tell another poster what's important to them. Lind, Carter, Thames/Aguilar results were similar enough not to squabble about. All were serviceable. Big question is what to expect from Thames in 2018. I can see Aguilar more or less having the same season he had this year, as long as he isn't playing every day. But Thames, just hard to predict. I'm open to anything at 1B. If they want to roll with that platoon again and hope for the best, I can see that. At the same time, I can see them trading or cutting Thames if they find a better option. It's such a close call I would be fine either way.
  17. This is not settled yet, I think that gets lost in the discussion. Did Scoot outperform Villar THIS season? Yes. For all we know this could be reversed next season.
  18. No, there's no Fielder or Braun. And thats ok. With Hader, Woodruff, Burnes and especially Peralta they don't have to spend for any fa starting pitching, and that's huge. Not to mention Ortiz, Yamamoto, and others on the way. Some of these guys will end up in the pen, which helps solve that part of the roster. All that means they'll have plenty to spend on a couple bats. 5 WAR bats? Maybe not, but between what they have and what they buy, should be able build a very good line-up.
  19. .704 really isn't a terrible platoon split. If you really want a lefty bat in CF that bad, give Phillips a start. I can't believe this much of an argument needs to be made to play an actual outfielder in center field. I agree, but a lot of these decisions aren't so black and white. It's like any 60/40 decision CC makes is the dumbest thing ever conceived.
  20. Yea, so far nobody has come through tonight. They should have had a line up of just Davies and ghost runners.
  21. Boo boo. This is about winning baseball games not making everyone feel included and make things fair. Exactly, it's about winning games. Berry isn't going to win any games. Is he going to be a difference maker? No. But Wren and Orf are difference makers? Btw, since when is that the bar for September call-ups?
  22. I would listen carefully on any deal for Thames, Aguilar, or Shaw and Pina for that matter. Very questionable to me if any of those guys can repeat the numbers they had this season. If Shaw stays and Thames goes, remember Shaw can play1B too. With all that said, I've been saying for over a year I would love to see Santana or Braun moved to 1B. I'm sure they have considered this, and there may be reasons it hasn't been done, or won't be done.
  23. They did trade some of their minor league depth. But I think you're saying they should have trade more to avoid losing the playoffs by one or two games? I'm glad they didn't make more trades. They would have missed the playoffs by 3-4 games, since the players they would have traded for wouldn't be as good as the guys they are replacing- thus bumping the Brewers out of the playoffs. And losing minor league depth in the process.
  24. While I am a big Packers fan, this is a Brewers' fan site. Not my call, but I see no reason to create all these sub-forums for non- Brewers/ MLB topics. Just as there's a Bucks thread going in Off-topic, that should be enough for the Packers. There are plenty of Packer sites on the interwebs already, I just don't think we need all that detail here on BF. Just one man's opinion.
