  1. Ever consider they may want keep Jungmann stretched out, so he's an option should they need a spot start or two? Ever consider it's better for Wren to get his 4-5 ABs every day, and that may be more valuable for his future here or elsewhere than sitting on the Brewers' bench. Nobody is getting screwed, they are getting paid to play baseball according to their contracts. Brewers decide where and when, and there's far more that goes into it besides who you think deserves it.
  2. This is not High School where a JV player gets a reward for having a great year by being promoted to Varsity for a few games. The Brewers will (and should) do what's best for the team. Not what's best for Wren, Barbosa, Cravy, or anyone else. Just as when players are FA, there is no loyalty- they do what they think is best for themselves. If it weren't for roster implications down the line, I'm sure they would have brought up Davis and/or Wren.
  3. Nice list, thanks for taking the time. Also at least a couple DSL kids to watch. Add Taylor Williams. In fact, to get OT a bit, I wonder if Williams and Ramirez get a legit shot to make the big boy club out of ST next season. At their age, getting close to now or never, and I don't see any point in making them prove themselves in CS. Give them a chance at the big league level, I rather see that than the journeymen, AAAA types we've seen the last couple years.
  4. Jordan Yamamoto is another guy, he doesn't get much love here but probably pitched better than anyone in the lower minors this year. Carlos Herrera is also very interesting. Not to mention bullpen arms like Ramirez and Griep. I was just thinking of this myself lately, how the strength has turned from bats to arms right under our noses. It's very encouraging we're not pinning all hopes on one or two guys, and that there is talent at all levels.
  5. There's a reason I had him #1 in the last poll. Wasn't a joke, or to make a point. His k rate at that age in AA is crazy. His delivery is effortless. Even I don't think he will be true ace of aces type, but I believe he has the best chance to have t hat kind of ceiling vs Hader, Burnes, Ortiz, etc.
  6. So, friend of a friend is visiting from Manchester. I know the spots in Milwaukee to watch soccer, but is there a place in Waukesha County?
  7. Or, don't panic every time there's a man on base.
  8. It makes sense if you want to go all-out to make the playoffs. Burnes is better than Wilkerson, Guerra, Jungmann, or anyone else. Not even saying they SHOULD do this, but that would be the reason. They would obviously know what that means, starting his clock early. There's also no guarantee he could come up and be really good immediately. All these things need to be weighed.
  9. I personally don't think so, but hard to say. Last year, Hader was not brought up during his breakout year. Woodruff followed a fairly similar pattern to Burnes last year and also was not called up. The year prior, Jorge Lopez WAS brought up during his breakout year in AA. Burnes has also thrown 137 innings this season and has 1-2 starts left prior to september and potentially could have AA playoffs. That's plenty of work to prepare him for potentially 180-190 innings in 2018 if the opportunity arises. Yea, I think the difference this year is they're in a pennant chase at the moment. If they wanted to be bold, they could have Burnes skip his next start and be available to start for the Brewers in September. Actually, he could even be in the post-season rotation if he has a couple great starts in September. I will trust the Brewers to do what is best for Burnes and the team, as they have far more info on his medical history, how labored his delivery is, how many innings can they stretch him this year, etc. Maybe they keep that option open while they see what happens the rest of this road trip?
  10. Just depends on how you want to define close. Using batted ball breakdowns Anderson's xERA is 3.72 compared to Nelson's 3.39. Nelson looks like a clear #2 while Anderson looks more like a solid #3 type starter. Nelson has easily been the best pitcher on this team all season. Anderson has just had the best results. ERA is simply an awful stat for in judging pitchers in season. Guess it depends what you mean by that. I would say ERA is a pretty poor indicator of future results, but a very good indicator of what a pitcher HAS done. For an extreme example, if Anderson had zero Ks this year and 300 BBs but a 2.00 ERA, I would say he's having a great year. huge warning flags for next year and beyond? Absolutely. For me, it's as simple as hitters are supposed to produce runs, pitchers job is to prevent runs. So if a SP can get the job done with a bit of luck, that's fine with me. As for Anderson vs Nelson in one game WC playoff? Well, that probably works itself out over the next month. If I had to run with someone today, I should say Anderson based on recent starts. But I would roll with Nelson, still just have a little more comfort level with him I guess.
  11. Starting in September, we should have enough arms up that Garza should never be allowed to get into a position to allow more than 5 or 6 runs in a game...possibly not even that many. Hader/Suter/Guerra possibly Jungmann...all can go 3+ innings if needed. I basically agree with that, I guess I was talking more about Garza's next start. If he's bad in that start, no reason for him to pitch again this season. As you said, they'll have lots of options in September. But when I say short leash for his next start, I wouldn't even let it get to 5 or 6 runs.
  12. I like it. I rather limit Woodruff a bit now so he's fresh at the finish line. I still have bad memories of Marcum wearing down at the end of the season. Let Garza have his start, put him on a short leash and Hader will be ready to pitch multiple innings.
  13. Right, and if I remember right the Red Sox added him to their post-season roster in the past precisely to use him as a PR. Johnny Davis is another guy they could bring up to fill that role.
  14. Let some of the guys from the IGT call balls and strikes for MLB. They are right 100% of the time. Seriously now. It's the union, plain and simple. They protect bad umps, which are most of them. Let them each have their take on the strike zone etc. They could easily get to 99% correct calls with humans.
  15. I agree, and that's how I feel about Rock and Brian. They've been around so long, there's just that familiarity and I enjoy all the friendly banter going back and forth. Could Ueck mention the count more often? Sure. Should Brian know how to pronounce Pina's name? Sure. But that stuff is so minor to me compared to the overall entertainment value.
  16. Impossible to predict, so I won't play along on that part. Captain Obvious here, but this is a big road trip. They can't win the division, but if they have an awful trip and the Cubs/Cards have a great stretch at the same time, it's all but over. If they're 7 games out at the end of the month, good night. And with the scheduled posted above, that is a real possibility. More likely, I think, is they will still be in it. Does that mean 1 game out or 3-4? Who knows.
  17. Irving would have the ball in his hands a lot more than he has playing with LeBron. Frankly, I think the Bucks are better off when Giannis is free to roam more, cut to the hoop, post-up, etc. I would prefer to have the ball in his hands less.
  18. Dogs aren't the problem. As with most things stupid/ entitled/ ignorant PEOPLE are the problem.
  19. I don't mind venting, but I'll admit the same topics have been beaten to death. Seems years ago there was more humor, good natured banter, etc. Could be why we don't see the 10-20 pages like we did in the past?
  20. Seems like the big story is getting buried a bit. If Tuscon is the landing spot for AAA affiliate, that would great! I mean anywhere is better than CS, but Tuscon sounds better than Fresno. If ST is at same facility, cool, but ST location is secondary.
  21. I hope Lucroy's wife has a solid alibi.
  22. Kotsay, Bill Hall, Yuni, Santana among others have roamed CF recently. Villar doesn't sound so crazy.
  23. Please don't mistake me as a fan that's interested in chasing mediocrity. I've been a fan all along of the rebuild and other than Mark just dumping some of his own money into a trade, I did not want to make any significant "buy" deadline or post-deadline deals. The reality is that Mark wants to compete now. However, Stearns will keep him in check from unloading the farm to hurt the 2022 Brewers to help the 2018 Brewers (we hope). Dubon hasn't been a good hitter above A+ ball or part of a season in AA in Boston's sytem (yet). A .740 OPS in Colorado Springs is something almost any player can do and he wasn't good in Biloxi. The mantra of fans thinking they are being ahead of the curve by saying, "we are a small market and big contracts are bad" and "I don't want stopgaps" are missing out on the nuance of this. Signing a 2B or relievers (on short contracts) does nothing to affect future ability to bring in or retain players. I think there is some "our prospect" inflation going on with Dubon. Finally, with Villar, I was a vocal proponent of letting him get all of 2017 to figure it out. He can still get plenty of ABs in 2018. The issue is that there are a lot of signs that 2016 was the outlier. If Villar plays at All Star form, we'll inevitably have an injury and Walker will fill in (1B, 3B) which would shift guys around anyways and Villar may be a regular player. Just to set the record straight, .909 in AA last year. .767 in CS this year. No, that doesn't scream All-Star, but solid enough. You can't win in CS, if if was hitting .900 the response would be "yea, but that's in CS." We also don't know if they're working with Dubon on certain things, etc. There's a lot we don't know. Personally, he looks like a nice utility guy to me but maybe he's good enough to play full time 2B, or close to full time. No prospect inflation here, as I keep saying we just don't know about Dubon. It's just that I rather see ABs from him over 57 year old Walker.
