  1. No, and that wasn't my point. I'm not saying at all that just because he's 5th on the team in OPS he wouldn't be able to be successful this year in Milwaukee. My point is Brinson isn't in a position where he's destroying AAA pitching to the degree that it's foolish to keep him there. If he was able to sustain 1.100, then at some point you say he just has to be called up. It's not that he CAN'T be called up now, it's just that he's not at the stage where it's ridiculous that he's still in AAA. Gatewood, for example, is at that stage. If he keeps raking like this he almost has to be challenged at AA at some point this season.
  2. Why? When the entire roster is hitting over .750, top prospects really should have video game type numbers.
  3. Agree. I just did a quick scan of SS with a minimum 75 PA, and Arcia ranks: 26th in OPS at .637 28th in OBP at .277 His defense is helping his overall value, but his hitting is pathetic. I think we have a number of options at SS who could provide as much or more value to the team right now than Arcia, and by having him on the team now (and half of last year) we are going to lose out on some of his prime years when he will be tremendously valuable. It won't happen, but I see no problem with sending Arcia to AAA to work on things. Off the top of my head, Yount, Hardy, Escobar, and Segura were all SS that struggled early on. Point being, sometimes the development needs to take place at the MLB level. A case could be made that hitting in CS could actually hurt him more than help at this point.
  4. Diplan and Freddy Peralta could be two more of those guys. Pennington too. I see Woodruff, Ortiz, and Burnes being the best gets for "good enough" starters. I agree good enough starters and elite bullpen is an easier and more realistic path for the Brewers.
  5. I think they need to slow down the promotions. They have been very aggressive for a while now, maybe this is the time to take a pause. Unless someone is clearly above their level (like Burnes and Supak) just let them stay where they're at and have some success. Sure, a bullpen arm here and there will be promoted too. Parker Berberet comes to mind. Can't think of anyone else worth pushing. Brinson is 5th on his team in OPS. He's having a good year, but in CS it's not like his numbers are dominant. Phillips is actually way above him. No rush to get Dubon up to AAA. Let him come up to AAA next year with Betancourt. Even Diaz and Gatewood I would like to see stay in A+, maybe get a taste of AA at the end of the year. Ray, Clark, and Erceg have no business in AA yet. Harrison is finally healthy, just leave him alone and see if he can really come on in Appleton. Most of these guys are not dominating, I think sometimes it helps progression by letting guys have a bigger taste of success.
  6. Luis Ortiz. Interesting, #2 pitcher in the org, and not mentioned by anyone for any category. Which sums it up I guess, not surging but not sure where he would fit.
  7. The statcast catch probability metrics have him in the top 10. Good for statcast. I don't believe in any defensive metrics, they are incredibly subjective. I realize eye test is subjective also, but as I watch various MLB games, there's a ton of really good CFers. So I'm not saying Broxton is horrible, it's just that by the standard today, Broxton is not anything more than average. I've seen him botch way too many plays that the really good MLB CFers make. Just my opinion, I realize I'm alone on a limb.
  8. Broxton is a below average MLB CF, you may convince me is more or less average. But I always see and hear the media glowing like he's one of the best or something.
  9. Also Kirk N was the LH bat. Flores was given the opportunity first, and failed miserably. Finally, CC wasn't the one who put him on the roster in the first place, that's Stearns.
  10. Actually, it happens all the time and doesn't really mean anything. Last year a journeyman pitcher ended up being the best starting pitcher the Brewers had. And they ended under .500. Over the years, there have been both hitters and pitchers that were lights out for a short period, or even the entire season and it didn't mean anything. Sogard is a good story, and he's been fun to watch. But it's not some sort of omen that this is a year of destiny.
  11. Then when Sogard cools off, bring up Dejesus and ride him until he cools off. Rinse and repeat.
  12. But what's the proof of this? I don't buy that at all.
  13. Peralta/Feliz for the 8th and 9th to close this one out!
  14. Sogard reminds me a guy who would be on the Cardinals for a few years and be a menace to us.
  15. Since this is not the "optimistic" thread, I am free to say this. July 4th is WAY too early to declare WS or bust. That's only (more or less) the halfway point of the season. I've seen teams collapse in the last couple weeks, let alone the last three months. I wouldn't write off the Cubs by any means. 3/4 of the season left, just way too early to make any conclusions.
  16. I may have missed it, but is Braun back for sure on Monday?
  17. That's why I'm optimistic. They may actually have enough talent to compete, and not have to rely on scrappiness, grittiness, blue collar effort, or any other magical quality to win games.
  18. Drivel. I don't even know what scrappiness means, but I'm pretty sure hitting the snot out of the ball is the reason they're in 1st place. Last year they had a losing record, guessing it's not because they didn't work hard and this year they are. But the sports media in Wisconsin, in general, knows very little about baseball so it's easy to just throw out "my oh my what a scrappy group."
  19. I like the way they're handling this. They could have easily trotted Peralta out for another start or two until Guerra comes back. Instead, they give a guy like Espino a start or two. If he pitches poorly. so what, no different that if Peralta would have started. But if he shines, now you have choices. If Davies keeps struggling, he could be sent down. If they trade Garza later on, they have a better idea if Espino can finish out the year. Or maybe they add him to the pen.
  20. All I know is last year at this time we were watching Colin Walsh and Ramon Flores. Later on it was the likes of Andy Wilkins Jake Elmore, and Alex Presley. So I can't get too worked up that Sogard is leading off for one game.
  21. We'll see. May not know that answer for another 3 years. A part of me though wishes that deal would have got done, even if it was Puig and junk in return. Clear the salary for 4 years, and spare all the if/when will Braun be traded, on and off the DL, etc. Stearns was probably smart to walk away if that was the deal, but it wouldn't have been all bad.
  22. And if all that is true, goes to show you win some, you lose some in the GM world. Hindsight being 20/20, Stearns should have taken whatever he could from the Dodgers. But at the time, made sense to hold out.
  23. I'm still worried about Villar. Also worried about Broxton, Arcia, Shaw, and Thames. I will always worry about guys with a limited track record in MLB. Sometimes we forget, it is very difficult to consistently be a really good MLB player. Some of these guys have had hot starts, some not so hot. But we're only at the 1/4 poll, so a long long way to go.
