  1. Sogard so pumped to be back in the big leagues, good for him.
  2. I'm not sure I could find anyone in baseball who would take Braun/Thames over Bellinger/Urias, but you never know I guess.
  3. Yea, that Franklin project has nothing to do with a AAA affiliate.
  4. Exactly my thoughts. I love golf and I love music, but they don't belong together. I rarely encounter this but if it starts to become more widespread, I will ask the course before I book a tee time. And if they have a policy of no music, I will not hesitate to narc to the marshal if I hear anything.
  5. Good outing from Ortiz, never gets old seeing a good performance from a Top 25 pitcher. Betancourt quietly having a nice season, a guy I wrote off long ago.
  6. You don't think they move someone to the pen or you don't think any of our starters is worth more as an RP? With us finally having some MiLB starters pushing for a MLB spot, I think we finally give up on a couple of these guys making it as a starter. Its been a while since we can say that. I don't think they'll move one of them to the pen. Not saying I agree, just what I think will happen. I see them giving all these starters a long leash hoping at least one of them can turn things around. So someone will come up with a mysterious strain, at some point maybe Peralta or Davies gets sent down, etc. I just don't see them moving any of them to the BP. And I will say this. I agree with sending Peralta to the BP. However, I disagree with some that say he will be great as a relief pitcher. We have no idea how he would respond. If he grooves fastballs and can't find the strike zone with his slider, that combo doesn't translate any better as a reliever. But I have no problem with the experiment.
  7. Or, alternatively, it is the perfect time to trade them. If TOR pitching is what you want, do you think a GM for another team would give that up for a Phillips or Cordell? No. Would they give it up for Santana hitting .850? Maybe. Broxton at .850? Yes.
  8. Or it's giving up a player with All-Star ceiling for a pitcher that may be done by the time 2019 rolls around. Not saying I'm right or you're wrong, just my take on it. I don't want to give up ANY part of the future for a feel good move. And really, it's irrelevant because it would take more than Diaz, so I REALLY wouldn't want to trade for Quintana.
  9. I wouldn't trade Diaz straight up for Quintana. Having Quintana around the next couple years does nothing. This is the type of deal I would look at down the road, when they have most of the rotation in place. The type of deals they should be looking at is acquiring younger arms that they will have 6 years of control. Triston McKenzie for example, a guy many wanted back in the Lucroy (almost) deal. You don't need to give up 4 top prospects to get someone like that, they're cheaper, and controlled for a longer period of time. There is the flame-out risk, but that's why you need a few guys like that to add to Ortiz, Diplan, Bickford, etc. Besides, Quintana comes with risk too. Every player does.
  10. Hold on to good players and try to win? What a radical idea! Exactly! I mean I don't get why some people here don't understand that a lot of the players the Crew has now are young, and part of the future..You look back on all the trade threads here though, and you can find one for a vast majority of players currently on the roster...a lot of which should be part of the future, not trade bait. It almost makes me wonder if a vast majority here will be literally PO'd if the Brewers are in it at the deadline, and don't trade anyone?? That would really baffle me if that happened, but I can almost guarantee some here will be mad about it. Yes, I'll be one that will literally be PO'd if they don't trade anyone. Since Stearns has arrived, the following players have moved on- almost all due to trades. Lucroy, Segura, Gomez, Davis, Gennett, Carter. That's a lot of fire power right? Yet they are putting up more runs than ever. Players that replaced them were had for close to nothing. And in the process, we now have one of the top farm systems instead of one of the worse. So what are we afraid of? If a couple bats are traded away, they can be replaced- either with our own prospects or Stearns finding another diamond in the rough. He's done it over and over again with Carter, Thames, Aguilar, Villar, Shaw, Broxton, Pina, Bandy... Doesn't do us any good to score a bunch of runs when the pitching is horrible. And that's not the easy fix a lot of people seem to think it is. That's why it's important to keep acquiring talent. You hope a couple pitchers emerge, and/or you have more and more assets to trade at some point for pitching. Or, you know, we could keep doing what we did for the past 50 years. Try to be just "good enough" to be interesting. I rather stick to the plan of building this team up to the point where they can be a true contender for more than one flash in the pan year.
  11. Seems like we've been saying that since 1986.
  12. This ascension doctor gets to know everything about you. You pass on the donuts? Check. You enjoy kick boxing and scarve shopping. Check. No tests necessary, see you next year.
  13. Darn, that had a 5 run inning written all over it.
  14. Thames is sick, mentioned during pre-game show.
  15. None. I think they play DL shuffle, move someone to AAA, trade, but nobody goes to bp.
  16. But how true is that anymore? How much of the game is called from the bench? Either way, I don't anyone is calling for meatballs over the plate on 0-2 pitches.
  17. No, I read your entire post. I think they're trying to win every year. But when can they legitimately be a "true" contender? I don' think we can say next year or the year after. It all depends on the rotation, and they could be good enough next year, or it could be 3-5 more years. I know, doesn't look good in a marketing campaign if you're the Brewers, but it's true. You referenced above "trading all of them." That's not what I'm talking about, it's that all of them should be on the market. They won't end up trading most of them. Stearns has shown the ability to find guys like Villar, Broxton, Pina, Bandy, Thames, Aguilar, Shaw, etc. giving up little or nothing. So even if the farm doesn't produce a replacement at a given position, I trust Stearns to be able to plug holes when the time comes. But you can't just plug holes in the rotation. That's why, if the offer is right, they need to flip a couple bats/ Knebel, etc. to find more high ceiling pitchers. We will probably never have a Kershaw, and that's ok, but we do need 5 pitchers you feel good about starting. Today there's not a single SP we can say that about. We can't dictate which player(s) someone is willing to give up that type of pitching for. Maybe it takes Thames. Maybe a package of Broxton, Knebel, Lopez, and Coulter. For the right return, you have to be ready to deal anyone at all.
  18. Which is exactly why there's plenty of guys to sell. Santana, Villar, Broxton, Thames, Shaw, Pina. If these guys keep hitting they have tremendous value. Window is not here yet, what we have right now is fool's gold. This rotation is horrible, and the bullpen not much better. it's nowhere near as simple as just plugging in Woodruff and Hader. People ask all the time how long will the rebuild take? Impossible to know, but that time will be when they have a legit rotation. But hey, that's how I feel today. Strange things happen in sports, and come the end of July let's see what's shaking. I'm open -minded about making any move at all, but as of today...SELL SELL SELL.
  19. But that's a major difference between a guy Quintana and a traditional buy. It's not specifically a 'win now' move. It's a move that you can make if you're not totally sure and you still have him for quite awhile and can move him again if things really don't work out with the rebuild. It's outside the box considering where we came into this year but I see the merit. I don't know why people are so eager to deal Knebel, he's very controlled yet and by far our best pen arm. You better get blown away if you're going to deal him. Have you seen what we got for Jeffress, Smith, and Thornburg? If they get an offer like that for Knebel you take it! I mean if he can finally stay healthy until July and is that good, heck yea you jump at a great offer for him.
  20. This is the danger of having a decent team, emotion takes over and you want to go for WS title. It's just not time. And it's a shame, because this line-up is good enough to compete. I look at this season as great news, because there will be plenty of guys to sell. Knebel and Garza for sure. Feliz if he comes on at all, along with hopefully another bullpen arm that is steady (Owen?) Then you have any of the bats that can be moved. Great thing about it is Stearns can just sit back and not do a thing unless he gets the right offer for any of these guys.
  21. Problem is if he starts pitching better, teams who are really going for it will offer more than the Brewers can. (Or make that should.) Brewers shouldn't be offering prospects of any significance at this point in the rebuild. Just too early to do that. I mean, look at the 2018 rotation. There is not one single pitcher we can write in today and say yes, he will definitely be in the rotation. So, to me, a Quintana type deal is something you do once the rotation is pretty close to being set, and you need that one more arm.
  22. Insane, but adding Chapman put them over the top and they won the WS. As for the Brewers, yes on Woodruff or Espino and Wang. Just a matter of the timing, and maybe just temporary in the case of Espino, but time is coming where a couple guys may need to be sent down. Peralta and Nelson are being discussed here, but if Davies doesn't figure it out soon he hasn't been any better. Hader in the bullpen, veto. His biggest issue is figuring out how to get deeper into games as a starter. Putting him in the BP is not going to help him, or the Brewers long term at all. Finally, I keep seeing Lopez name sprinkled in across various threads, and he's struggling in AA so not sure that's an option right now.
  23. Maybe mediocre overall, but the problem is the trend has been worse. Remember they started off very strong with 2 very good outings from Peralta, Nelson, and Anderson. It's really gone south since then. My theory is teams have figured out they don't throw any off-speed pitches, and when they do they won't be strikes. So just sit dead-red and smash it, and if you get something off-speed take your walk.
