  1. And if I'm the Dodgers I see Braun babied in ST, then have at least two flare-ups with injuries (one of which has keep him out for over week.) And the season just started. I would be so nervous that something flares up at playoff time. That's what would scare me to death if I'm trading for Ryan Braun. It's not the money, he's worth it when healthy. Now if he can come back and stay healthy until July or August, that's a different story. But his thumb and back are chronic, it's not like he's just going to "get better."
  2. Nelson should get sent down to the minors when Guerra's ready. Let him work on things as a starter, and if he can't figure it out, convert him to a reliever down there. So, Guerra comes back, Nelson goes down. At the deadline, Garza, Feliz, and Peralta are all shopped around. Unless Nelson is really lighting it up as a starter, Woodruff and Lopez take the open spots when Garza and Peralta are traded, giving them some MLB experience going into 2018, where we will hopefully have a more talented rotation with Guerra, Anderson, Woodruff, Lopez, Hader, and more talent pushing their way up through the minors. Of course, if we're still in the division and WC races in late July, all that might change. But that would probably mean that our current pitching was getting better and/or some of the prospects are already up. I pretty much agree with this. To me, it doesn't matter much if Nelson or Anderson is sent down temporarily or put in the bullpen. But Nelson really could be a nice BP arm if they go that route, and he embraces it. Just a couple things in bold, I would add Anderson (30) and Knebel as guys they will shopping. Also, don't forget about Davies as part of the 2018 rotation.
  3. Yea, the article is accurate. Shaw hasn't hit LHP until this season, but sample size is just 33 PA.
  4. Truth is somewhere in between with Hader. You said it yourself, he was cruising through 4 innings. This start magnifies his biggest problem, and the problem many starting pitchers have at all levels these days. The ability to go through a line-up 3 or more times through 6-7 innings. That's why I definitely think Woodruff is ahead of him. Hader has to figure out a way to pitch more than 5 innings consistently, or he really isn't the #2 prospect, not even close.
  5. One of those things where there's no "right" answer. Many of these terms to describe pitching are used differently by various people. For example, Auggie describes any pitch that's not a fastball a breaking ball. (At least I think that's what he's saying.) As for command and control? I've always seen control as the ability to put your pitch where you want it. Synonymous with "locate." Command, to me, has always meant ability to throw a particular pitch effectively. "Ben Sheets has command of his curve tonight."
  6. People were all over Aguilar too the last couple weeks. But suddenly he's up to .763 OPS. That's the way it is with bench guys. Franklin could have a couple big games too. If he stays this bad, well yea you make a change but not after 40 ABs. I will say this. Once this team starts competing, the Franklins and Milones of the world are going to have a shorter leash. But this year, let's see what guys like Franklin and Aguilar can do. We may not agree they should be on the roster, but now that they are give them a real chance.
  7. Not too bad at all, if anything I would take Lopez out and put Gatewood at #10, if we're going by results so far this season. I still think Erceg will really come on, and one of the younger pitchers will be making a bid for that Top 10 list as well.
  8. Offseason deals are tougher because GMs are all set at a position, or convince themselves they are. Put yourself in their shoes. Would YOU have really given up any prospects of significance for Garza, Peralta, Nelson, or Anderson after the seasons they had? Or would you say we'll give Joe Blow, our AAAA starter a chance. That's basically what happened, I think. Now add to that how many teams not knowing if they would be a contender or not. Why give up prospects for a Peralta or Garza when you don't even know yet how the season is going to shake out? That's why, in general, it's easier to get a deal done mid-season. GMs have a much better idea if they're a contender, and what they need. Plus, they aren't above the emotion involved with a playoff chase.
  9. Melvin seemed to like "proven" talent over prospects (at least in the later years). Stearns seems like he'd rather trade away a "proven" guy with limited team control remaining and promote the prospects. We just need a little more time to see if guys like Garza, Peralta and Anderson can pitch well enough until deadline that a team would be willing to give up something for them, or if some of our current guys pitch themselves out of the rotation. I don't think Melvin preferred proven talent over prospects, it was just a different time. Mark A had a "win now" goal, and Melvin was charged with making it happen. I won't get into whether that was wise or not, just the way it was. Once the Brewers are ready to compete again, Stearns will look more like Melvin- trading prospects for vets.
  10. I've heard that for years and he just disappoints. He disappoints? Because he got injured? He was on the fat track to make the Brewers roster before his TJ surgery. Since he's come back, he has been outstanding from winter league until today, other than one outing. As for the others, yea Woodruff will be up mid-season if he keeps this up. Hader I'm still not convinced can be a starter in MLB, he has work to do. At least I'm still optimistic he can and will. Lopez.....I'm just not a fan. Maybe he can be a #5 starter, which is fine, but I have no illusions he'll be a huge part of the next Brewers playoff team.
  11. Just take look at the Colorado Springs box score to feel better about the night.
  12. Its 10 pm but only the 5th so I can justify cracking open another beer so its fine by me on a Friday....and I go do so and find a large package of Bacon in the fridge covering my beer supply. Great job wife. Mmmmmm Beer and bacon
  13. Yah, I think it is pretty unusual for an MLB trade to have a performance component to it. I doubt any of the players on the agreed-upon list will be yanked because Tyler got hurt. Officially, no. But I could see Stearns just taking the $100 in a show of goodwill. Sox would be more willing to deal in the future, and remember this if a deal is close, Stearns gets what he wants. Other GMs would take notice too. I don't think for a minute he would be seen as a sucker, just looking long term instead of short term gain of another low level meh prospect.
  14. We are near the equivalent of 3 games into the NFL season. If all teams in a division were 2-1 or 1-2, what does it mean? Almost nothing. But in both sports, it doesn't stop fans from reading way too much into it.
  15. Sure, all those guys. Plus Perez or Shaw. Problem is, Hader or Woodruff can get called up, but would need to be shut down before t he end of the season. No way would the Brewers let them take a huge jump in innings this year. For bullpen help you have guys like Wang, Barbosa, and others in the minors. Plus, Stearns got guys during the season last year who stuck. He will continue to churn until he find guys who can help.
  16. Well, there's 5 months to go, so standings mean very little at this point.
  17. Technically, that rumor has already been proven wrong. Braun would have been traded a month ago if this reporter was right?
  18. That's good news, sounds like it's a case of the hanging slider then. Hopefully something mechanical that can be fixed...soon.
  19. Diplan with two straight horrible outings now, hope is arm is sound.
  20. Why would the Brewers want a retired Point Guard in return? And if Garrett is related to Franklin Stubbs in any way, no thanks.
  21. Perfect storm for ESPN. They overpaid for NFL and NBA, so trying to pressure cable providers, etc. for higher rates. Problem is, more and more people are ditching cable. That whole cycle can't be sustained. Honestly, I would probably still watch Sportscenter every night if they reverted back how they used to do it. 1/2 hour that just goes through the highlights and stories of the day. But I'n not waiting 57 minutes to see a glimpse of Brewers or Bucks highlights, enduring 5 side stories in the meantime.
  22. Arcia still has 5 months to go, but at least now I have some faith he can actually hit "enough." If he can develop into an elite SS defensively (and he has the skills to get there) and hits around .725 I would be perfectly happy. The other positive I've seen is Sedar. I would be willing to bet Counsell finally talked to him, because Sedar hasn't been as aggressive (stupid) the last couple weeks.
  23. No HR today either. That's two days in a row!!!
  24. I thought he was the best player in MLB when I was 9
