  1. Same thing every other MLB team is waiting to find out. Hopefully he is the real deal, and swing a trade for equivalent of Hader/Diaz
  2. My answer for that starts with Hader, Woodruff, Brinson, and that group. Anyone who is currently on the 25 man can be moved if you get top prospects in return. Anyone. And the thing is, the more Stearns sells, the better they seem to get in the short term too. Funny how Lucroy seemed like a huge loss, early on he hasn't been. Gomez and Fiers get traded, no loss. Jeffress, Smith, Thornburg leave, BP hasn't missed a beat. They don't bring Carter back, better off there too. That's why I'm confident selling is the way to go. They're actually getting marginally better in the short term, and positioning to be way better in a couple years.
  3. No, that was the approach the last two times they made the playoffs. Tried to win that year, so buyers instead of sellers. Not even saying I disagree with that, a t the time it seemed worth it to go for it after 20+ years of mediocrity. But it's different now. There is a real possibility this team can compete over an extended period of time, especially if they add even more top-end young talent. For those that want to go for it, I don't think you're wrong. It's just that I rather have a roster that can be a true contender for multiple years, rather than try to go for it this year or next year. Could they add Hader and a couple other pieces and have a shot at the WC next year? Sure. But do we really believe this rotation, even with Hader, could compete for it all? I really want to believe that, but I can't. Hader is nowhere near being able to throw that any innings in a season, he will not be ready even next year to pitch in October. I'm looking at 2020-2025 and beyond as the time they can really be a true contender. Maybe they can sneak up and make some noise before then, and that would be great. In the meantime though, I would not stop trading 30+ year olds, bullpen arms, and mid-rotation starters for a big haul.
  4. Not decent prospects, great prospects. If Feliz can keep it up, market has already shown over and over again what late inning relievers are worth at the trade deadline. Ditto for Knebel. And with Thames, Peralta, Nelson, Guerra, Anderson, Braun, Pina, Villar, etc. lots of guys that someone may want, and can be had for the right price. But the Brewers have control over all those guys, so no need to make a move withough getting great prospects back. Depending how this year ends up, Brewers could very well have the #1 system in all of MLB.
  5. Thanks Dale - that makes the deal even more terrific, if Thames is the real deal. Which we should be closer to knowing by mid-season, after the second time through the division and all the adjustments teams and Thames have made. That would give us an incredible 1B option through 2020, well into the contending years, I'd say. I agree, need to wait to see how Thames adjusts once the league starts to develop a book on him. But I would also add, 2020 will not be well into the contending years- it will be just the beginning. I know, nobody wants to hear that.
  6. Looking at what the Giants have, it would take Beede +. Is that what either side would do? No idea. Ideally, I would like to see the Padres swoop in and get a deal done, then have Braun just rake against the Dodgers showing them what they missed out on by screwing around for a year. Sort of like the lottery, fun to daydream.
  7. Yes, but they knew Bellinger was the real deal at the deadline last year, so nothing has really changed there. They also know it's not a lock Bellinger will be enough. If they really want a big RH bat the next couple years, there's Braun just waiting for you.
  8. Common sense dictates if the Dodgers were trying to get Braun at the deadline, they still want him now. In fact, their need for Braun has only increased. I'm sure they know the asking price, so there's no need for constant ongoing discussions about it. Just a matter of whether Dodgers are willing to give up what it takes, or not.
  9. Absolutely you trade him if you can get a big haul in return. 31 year olds are not part of the future. But there's a reason Braun, Peralta, Guerra, etc. are still on the team. There was/is interest in all those guys, but if Stearns doesn't get what he wants you hold on to them. Thames will be no different. If he can get the haul the Brewers got for Lucroy/Jeffress or Gomez/Fiers absolutely I would jump on that. Who would play 1B? Pretty close to the last worry I would have. Aguilar, Shaw, Perez, Santana, Braun, Cordell, Cooper, that's just off the top of my head. Not to mention cheap players who are available every year. Heck, Stearns found 3 of them the past two years. Thames is a great story, and it's fun watching him. But I would have more fun 5 years from now knowing we got a couple players similar to Brinson and Ortiz under control for 6 years.
  10. Gianni didn't even look at him, much less stare him down or anything. Fist pump and one YEA while looking in the other direction. Since when is that a T???
  11. You called for the signing of around 179 different FAs. But yes, good call on Thames.
  12. Nice win, bringing the defense! And it all started with Von Maker. Also, love the way Giannis is in Derozen's head already.
  13. Peralta may have the nastiest stuff in the entire system. If he can put all together, look out. Another Cordell HR. He says PTBNL this!!!
  14. Nice reminder Brandon Diaz is still around. That, and I need to get me a Mudcats hat.
  15. Yea, I agree with the jist of what he's saying. But it's not splitters, it's sinkers that Stearns covets. He wants guys that can induce ground balls, which always makes sense, but even more so when half your games are in MP.
  16. I've said Buehler was the guy to target since last summer. Supposedly the Dodgers really love him - so I doubt it happens. They may love him, but fact is thee is risk there too. As good as he is, he's in the low minors and that comes with more risk and more waiting time for the Brewers. Same with Alvarez. They have enough pitching talent that they can afford to give up one of them for Braun. You know a trade is fair when it hurts some for both sides, and the Brewers need one of those two in return plus a lottery or two. That's the price. Good news is, they have been talking about this for so long now, seems inevitable it gets done eventually. Not a lock, but I feel way better than most of the off-season that this will get done.
  17. You can tear off the label to fool others, but you're only fooling yourself. Can you live with that hanging over your head? Only you can answer whether or not you can carry that burden.
  18. As I said, I'm definitely not arguing the results as a whole. No, but you were questioning his bottom churning and how he's seemingly making moves just to look busy. I pointed out a pretty long list of bottom churn guys that have worked out. Point being, it's not for appearance, these moves have greatly improved the roster.
  19. No, Stearns is not perfect. But here's what mining the bottom of the roster has produced: Broxton, Villar, Aguilar, Pina, Bandy, Guerra, Torres, Hughes, Marinez, and I'm probably forgetting someone from this year or last. Not to mention getting production at 1B from cheap players like Carter and now Thames. And another cheap closer in Feliz. So I trust he's not making all these moves simply to act busy. He has a purpose, and hard to argue with the results as a whole.
  20. Supak another nice outing, Medeiros another bad one. Gatewood another walk (and hit)
  21. Loved everything you said about Brinson, except the part about being LH ; )
  22. Davies is actually similar to Bronson, but big difference that he's 14 instead of 40.
