  1. Very true. At the same time, at least Toronto makes sense at some level, whereas the Phillies make no sense whatsoever. Makes it really tough for us to speculate when we have no idea how open-minded Braun is to any team not on his cleared list. But that won't stop us from speculating anyhow. ; )
  2. No, Garnett didn't have handles and a 3point ball like Maker. Two totally different players. I still see him more as a Giannis/ Durant type of player. Not that I expect him to be that good, just that type of player. IF they insist on making him a post player though, there's upside too. Talk about a big man who can run the court! Plus his shooting, ball handling. Very unique player. You may be able to convince me to make him a stretch 4, but not a 5.
  3. Problem is, Maker is not a 5. He's a wing player, like Giannis in a lot of ways. Yea, Monroe is slow but most nights he can score some, bang with big centers, etc. Maker would get eaten alive by centers. Who knows, he could maybe be a stretch 5 down the road. Just no way in the world is he ready to play defense in the post in the NBA. If anything, he could be getting Jet's minutes, but that's not going to happen any time soon either.
  4. Maker isn't ready on the defensive end of the floor. Pretty good message to send, in my opinion, no minutes until you're able to do what we need on defense.
  5. Manning beat the Packers twice in cold weather at Lambeau to knock the Packers out of the playoffs. And that was against Packer defenses much better than this. Anything is possible, but I wouldn't count on Manning having a bad game because it's cold, and/or at Lambeau.
  6. Count me out, either you're a Brewer bar or not. Plus it shows bad taste playing that awful song.
  7. Nice to see our very own Mass Haas showing up in Bleacher Report streams.
  8. Real question is, how often did the team with the worst record in the playoffs win the WS? Because I always see comments about how "they just need to make it in and they have a shot" or words to that effect. But is that even true? Always knew the BEST team won far less than 50% of the time, but I'm guessing the worst team has almost never won.
  9. Door C. Win one WS, and be competitive the other 9 years, maybe winning another WS or two. Reading all the comments, seems Door B would mean winning a WS and then being a bad team for 9 years. Gutting the farm, signing FAs, etc. to win that one WS. But I think you can have your cake and eat it too. Key is to continue to add talent to the system. They are #1 now, top 5, whatever. That is great, but it needs to be sustained. Then, once this team is truly competitive they will have options to maximize chances of winning WS in a given year. They can swing a trade without gutting the system, if they're deep enough. They can sign a FA without strangling the team long-term. Garza is coming off, and Braun will too one way or another within 4 years. And there is nobody on the current roster who will demand a big contract for next 5 years, with the possible exception of Villar. Cleveland has done this, and they were up 3-1 in the WS. Texas has done it, haven't won a WS but they have remained competitive despite trading prospects away. If the Brewers had a top 5 system in 2011 they would have been able to swing another trade that may have taken them over the top, without gutting the system.
  10. How about a three team deal? From everything I've heard from people out in LA, it seems the Dodgers were considering Puig as the centerpiece. If that was true, more importantly if it STILL is then it's no wonder a deal hasn't been done. Sure, Puig could be a flip candidate for the Brewers. But I don't want that and I don't Stearns does either. We need two top 100 or 100"ish" prospects back, and change for Ryan Braun. So, how about including the Marlins in this deal? You would think that's a natural place for Puig to go. 6 of their top 10 prospects are pitchers (including 4 LH.) Some of you guys will know far more about them than I do. But how about a deal like this: Dodgers- Braun Marlins- Puig Brewers- A top Dodgers prospect, a top Marlins SP prospect, and two "lottery" type prospects Maybe the Brewers would need to pay part of Braun's contract (to get more from Dodgers) and/or throw another player in (to get more from the Marlins.) All depends on the quality of two prospects in return.
  11. I would start Arcia at SS, instead of South Dakota. ; )
  12. I'm with Jericho on this. Sometimes we read too much into what an Owner, GM, or Manager says (or doesn't say.) Mark A said from the day he bought the team he wanted to bring a WS back to Milwaukee, and he has said it many times since. I think that's a given, and he doesn't have to mention it every time.
  13. Not a tough choice at all, I take the $5MM. Even if you said $1MM I would take it. $500,000 is where it gets interesting at least, but would still probably take that. THAT would be a tough decision.
  14. I don't think they have a ton of holes at all. As you said, getting Middleton back will be huge. Brogdon and Henson serve a purpose, very good in their roles. Bease also, not sure if they want him long term but he's a good bench guy. Actually, Monroe is even fine the way they use him. Also, don't forget Maker. That kid may be as freakish as Giannis on a lot of ways and already has a better jumper. They basically need one more 3 and D guy, and another Center once Monroe moves on. Not a big name or big scorer needed there, just someone who can rebound and play stretch 5 on defense. That really should be enough to be a legit contender in the East. All depends on Giannis and Parker getting better, and they show every sign that will happen.
  15. That's an apples/oranges comparison: Hart was originally a 1B who only got moved around to other positions (3B for a year & finally the OF) once Prince Fielder entered the organization and quickly (and rightly) became the 1B of the future. More like tangerines and oranges. Hart didn't play 1B for 10 years before he was asked to go there at age 30.
  16. Jabari Parker has arrived. Restrictor plate has been removed, and now this team has a true two-headed monster.
  17. Hart made the transition late in his career, and was much better than I ever imagined. Braun grew up as a SS, he is plenty athletic enough to be at least an avg 1B, if he put his heart into it.
  18. I have been saying that as well, but there are caveats. First, will Mark A be willing to wait that long? Sure, he's bought into the rebuild, but I'm not sure he'll be patient enough to let this run it's natural process for too many seasons. Secondly, player performance could move up the time frame. Specifically, starting pitching. It's entirely possible Davies stays the same, or even gets a little better. Peralta or Nelson could find consistency and be a really good pitcher. Then one or two of Hader, Woodruff, Taylor Williams, Lopez, etc. could be better and sooner than advertised. Not predicting this will happen, just saying if it does they could compete in 2018 or 2019 already.
  19. As of today, I think that's the rotation. Some of us really want to send Peralta or Garza to the pen, but I just don't see that happening. At all. Anderson probably goes to AAA so he can continue to be a SP, stay stretched out. Could do the same with Milone, but I think they would keep that extra LH pitcher in the pen. The rest is pretty much set, as of today.
  20. Agree with the first paragraph, then you lost me. I don't believe for a minute that fan reaction would play any role in Stearns decision to trade him, or Mark A preventing him from doing so. They just traded Lucroy, and in the recent past they have moved Gomez, two guys the fans really loved. Not to mention letting Fielder walk, traded Yo, traded Hardy, moved on from Weeks/Hart. I think even casual fans "get" what they're trying to do in general, if not every specific move. And even if they didn't there's just no way that would prevent a trade. Based on everything I've read and heard, seems very simple. Stearns is asking for more than the Dodgers (or anyone else)are willing to give- at least for now.
  21. Apparently he isn't worth more, since they've been trying to trade him since July.
  22. Maybe Braun would green light a trade to the Jays now, aye?
  23. It won't take as much as you think for Boogie. They know he's gone after next season, and they'll get nothing for him if that happens. It's not like he has 5 more seasons on his contract or something. Plus, if they keep waiting all they're doing is delaying their re-build. That team is in chaos, and it's because Cousins doesn't want to be there and everyone knows it. How can you rally the troops every night for the next two years when you know your star doesn't even want to be there? That's why Middleton, Moose, Bease, and a #1 makes some sense. I agree it's probably not quite enough. They pick up Moose's expiring contract after next season, creates $18MM in cap space. Bease will be Bease and score for you for a season or two while you rebuild. Then you have Middleton for years on a very favorable contract. If it takes Jabari to get it done, I wouldn't say absolutely not. None of us really knows Cousins and what kind of personality risk he is. If it's just a matter of getting out of Sac, and then he'll have the right attitude you have to consider making that deal.
  24. Middleton, Moose, Bease and a #1 for Boogie?
  25. His wOBA this year was better than Brinson in AA, better than Arcia in AAA, and better than both Clark and Ray (incidentally, Phillips is only 4 months older than Ray). Every case is different. No question Arcia had a down year himself. Yet he remained the #1 prospect due to plus fielding, arm, and speed. Three tools critical for his position. Ray was just drafted and thrown into A+ in a tough hitters park. Learning pro ball, wood bats, all that good stuff. And eventually he came on at the end of the season. Brinson was injured the first half of the season, and finished strong as well. Can't take just half his season's numbers. Clark, I'll give you. Other than he was young for low A ball. (Which is why I said above I would bump him out of the top 10 for Dubon and Taylor Williams.) But again, that's nitpicking. Absolutely believe Phillips remains a top tier prospect for the Brewers, just a matter of exactly where he is ranked. He did have a down year though, if we're using wOBA, it was lower than his previous two seasons. Which, by definition would make it a down year.
