  1. It's simple. None of the players coming back are stamped with a Top 50 or Top 100 label. Don't look any deeper than that, it's why so many people think it's underwhelming.
  2. Yea, the performance risk is not a factor for me, but the injury risk is very real. Roll the dice hemail holds up until August? No, I rather take this deal.
  3. Wow, the worst part of that story, in my opinion, is no note was left from the guidance counselor or anything? You had to hunt down how it happened? That's really rude.
  4. Scooter doesn't have the arm strength for SS or 3B. Or the range to play CF. Could he play LF? Probably. But that's a pretty weak bat for LF. People hated Khris Davis in LF...Gennett? Haha oh I would love it just to see the reaction. Horrible defense and a horrible bat. Plus it begs the question, why would you try to force an average bat somewhere in the line-up?
  5. Your're assuming Gennett will be the one traded and not Villar who's value is much higher? Why not deal Villar now when his value is high? With the likes of Dubon and Diaz in the system, why risk Villar slumping in 2017? I'm guessing they assessed the market for Gennett and it's lacking. Because you don't trade a player based on perceived MiLB depth at a position. Dubon and Diaz had great seasons last year, but they have a long way to go to get to MLB, yet alone excel there. But I do agree with selling Villar high if you can. As always, anyone can be traded for the right return. It's just not a decision based on what A ball players are doing.
  6. Counsell on MLB Network today said that Arcia is the SS moving forwards and they expect Villar to play "alot of second base" Of course that's what he would say. And most likely that WILL be what happens. I mean, that IS the plan right now. But Counsell has no idea what things will look like come April. More trades to come, there's injuries, Arcia's performance in ST, etc.
  7. Exactly. Also, GMs (most of them) aren't stupid. They know every player in the Brewers organization is for sale, from MLB down to Rookie Leagues. The Brewers don't need to go around advertising it. They also know if they want Villar it would take a couple top shelf prospects in return. (And in my world, one of them would have to be a stud starting pitcher.)
  8. No it doesn't. They might want to keep Gennett in case Arcia struggles out of the gate and they have to move Villar back to short for a while. We're all assuming Arcia's here to stay, but maybe they'll decide to get him more work in AAA. At worst, Gennett becomes a nice late inning PH option from the left side and allows Counsell to do some double switching in the infield. He's not making so much that having him as a bench player is out of the question. That said, I'm a huge Scooter fan myself and feel he's been underappreciated by many. Yea, there's a chance Arcia STARTS the season in AAA. Not likely, but wouldn't shock me. I'm a Scooter fan too. Just too bad he can't play another position.
  9. Yes and no. Depends on what you mean by "future." To me, Shaw/Perez is case closed for "present-ish" rather than future. As of right now, Erceg is still the future.
  10. One of those trades that's really tough because of perceived value. Not sure any team would be willing to give up a huge return for him, since the jury is still out whether his bat can stick. And from the Brewers perspective, they want to find out. Just real tough to get a deal like that done. And IF a trade like that would happen, it wouldn't have anything to do with Durbin, Diaz, Lara, or anyone else. You make that trade because of the value you get back. You don't make a trade based on anything an A ball player is doing.
  11. He put up a 151 wRC+ in 269 AA plate appearances last year so I would think an assignment to AAA to start the year would be fine. Who would be the AAA SS otherwise, Rivera again? Not to mention Diaz is going to be at AA next year so it would make sense to put Dubon at AAA. While Diaz doesn't seem to have a future at SS for the Brewers it is smart to keep him playing both SS and 2B as long as possible. If Dubon becomes a legit 2B for us Diaz might be the expendable one who is traded later on. At which point being able to play SS means a lot to his trade value. I think Diaz will be at A+ ?
  12. Isan Diaz Age 20 .827 A Dubon Age 21 .840 A+/AA We love Diaz, and with good reason. Yet looking over the numbers just now, briefly, we should be AT LEAST as excited about Dubon. Plus, his K rate is much better than Diaz, and my initial research probably a better defensive player. I'll need to look into all these players more, and continue to read everyone's comments here. But like a lot of people my initial reaction was meh. But I'm warming up to the idea that Dubon may be a really nice headliner in this deal. Finally, since I'm sure this will come up, why another SS/2B!?!? Well, Diaz just completed A ball. Not even close to a guarantee he will be a really good MLB player, or even make it there. And, hate to say it, no guarantee Arcia's bat will be good enough to stick as a starting SS. Continue to add talent at all levels of the organization, regardless of position.
  13. I see and hear a lot of people talking about "So, if the Packers run the table..." Like it's almost a given or something. This team is very average, and none of these games are automatic wins. Not the Vikes at home, not even the Bears on the road. And certainly not Seattle next week. Most of all, like it or not, the Lions are for real. They are not a great team or anything, but they are good enough to beat the Packers-especially at home. Ironic, because for the last 20 years or so you could almost book the Packers would take care of business and run the table. I'm just not confident at all they can do it this time.
  14. OF?? I think we have plenty of them already. No need to try to convert a mediocre 2B. Scooter needs to at least platoon at 2B, or he has no roster spot. You can't have a bench player who can only play 2B. If Villar is moving to 2B, then Scooter needs to be traded. This is pretty simple really.
  15. I'll play. ...Jabari Parker will be traded? ...Jason Terry never sees the court again?
  16. It's strange. Proper tackling is still taught in youth leagues and HS. I've coached both, and "head up" is preached in every single practice, especially in pop Warner. Oddly, if gets worse in college and then worse yet in the NFL. Never understood why. I know they don't practice much anymore, but not wrapping up has been around for a long time, so I don't buy that reason.
  17. These moves don't take place in a vacuum either. When I first heard about the signing, my initial reaction was "I rather see Santana or Braun play there." But for all we know, Stearns could be confident Braun will be traded. Or, he is planning on trading Santana. Maybe both. Plus, we don't know if Braun has any interest in playing 1B. And maybe they just don't see Santana playing there. He's tall, great, but it just may be an experiment the Brewers don't want to try for various reasons. So, really, if Braun/Santana are not options there, I like the move a lot more. You have a guy who MAY be able to play FT at 1B. Or he can play some 1B, play some corner OF while they wait on Brinson and others. Point being, with Stearns there's always more moves to come. It should also put to rest this notion of tanking. If they were tanking, they would just throw Cooper over there.
  18. It's not my fault sometimes you swipe, sometimes you plug the card in because it has some sort of new-fangled microwave chip or something. Then sometimes you punch in a code I can never remember, sometimes you don't. Then there are times I'm supposed to sign, other times not. Plus I have to remember which card my wife told me I'm supposed to use at each store. Oh yea, there's the loyalty card at each store, never remember which ones I have along in my wallet. And that's if I remember my wallet.
  19. Yea Philly's OLine was beat up, and had virtually no WR. That said, as I said earlier, credit where credit is due. I don't in any way think they turned some sort of magical corner either. When healthy, this is an average/mediocre NFL defense. Which means they will have good games, and games they will get torched against better offenses. Bottom line, they're going to need more turnovers.
  20. Will the bleachers long the RF line be re-named "Thames River?"
  21. Yea, credit where credit is due. They played with focus and urgency. Offense was crisp. Shouldn't have taken 4-6 start to play that way, we'll see if it continues.
  22. If you don't like defensive metrics (I don't either) then use the eye test. He was bad last year. I think he can be better, but if they keep him 1B would make a lot of sense with all the OF options coming up being better defensive players. Braun too, same story really.
  23. Santana, Braun, or Cooper. Could probably get Jason Rogers back for a song.
  24. Reason they didn't do it sooner? Protect another rule 5 eligible player? That's my only question. Stearns doesn't want these Joey Meyer, Rob Deer, Mark aBrouhard type guys. Carter served the purpose cheaply for a year, obviously couldn't trade him at the deadline last season, move on.
