  1. We're all trying to parse words. Trying to take meaning from anything Mark A., Braun, or press reports say about a possible trade. Bottom line, we don't know, because even the Brewers and Dodgers don't know. Obviously there is interest from both sides, but a lot of pieces need to fall into place to complete the trade. We can all think or "feel" it will be done, but in reality we have no idea.
  2. As you said, that's anecdotal. I also know kids who were thinking about education major, and changed their minds. But it had nothing to do with discourse. They figured out they had different interests, and in a couple cases realized how difficult it was to get a job in a district after graduation. There are hundreds of kids graduating every year with education degrees that end up in day care centers, or doing something else entirely because there aren't enough positions open. So we are a LONG way from worrying about a teacher shortage. It's too bad really. These younger people are still inspired and would probably be great teachers, but are being blocked by older, jaded teachers who should probably retire or move on to a different career if they're so unhappy.
  3. Alvarez is a no. He is a prospect on the rise and people like to compare him to Urias and some even like him more. We are just not getting that kind of prospect for Braun. That is before considering they paid $32mil to sign Alvarez. I also think Bellinger/DeLeon is wishful thinking. Sure we don't know for sure, but if we got offered a guy like that why didn't we finish the deal? I'm sure a guy like that was not offered, but that doesn't mean a Deleon wouldn't be offered in the off-season when there's more time to get something like this done. It could involve Puig going to a 3rd team. It could involve the Brewers offering someone along with Braun. Maybe the Brewers need to take on McCarthy. Just lots of moving parts, so I can see how a Braun for Deleon deal didn't work now, but it still could.
  4. Agree with all that, and it also shows why getting Puig back in a Braun deal doesn't help that natural progression you outlined above. Could Puig be a flip candidate? Sure. But I don't want him to get in the way of the OF rebuild which is one area of the team that is actually on track.
  5. Interesting. And no other NL Central team on either list, better yet.
  6. No one is asking anyone to feel sorry for teachers, that is a silly notion. I don't care about other professions, I'm talking about the teaching profession. There IS going to be a teacher shortage, it is coming. Believe it or not, it is coming. Great benefits? You must be talking about pre act 10, those great benefits that you speak of are dwindling by the year, and there is nothing that teachers can do about it. Just another reason there are fewer and fewer young people going into teaching. I don't blame them, I would never enter the profession in the current atmosphere. NEVER! I know you believe that, and that's what teachers tell each other. Problem is, it's just not true. There 's still WAY more education majors out there today than jobs available. That won't change any time soon. They are not as jaded about the profession, and DO realize the benefits (including pension) are still superior to almost any other job out there. Hey, I'm all for massive changes in the educational system. I think all the decisions should come from the local district, and even down to the individual school. Including teacher pay, hiring/firing, curriculum, and standards.
  7. Getting into all the Walker stuff IS political, and shouldn't be in this forum. I don't understand why everyone is supposed to feel sorry for what teachers have to deal with. Talk to factory workers, bank employees, truck drivers, police officers. Any position in any industry. They will tell you their benefit packages have changed. They will tell you there are more rules and regulations to deal with. My wife was a teacher for years, still have family members and close friends who are teachers. So I get it, I just don't understand why I should feel so bad about what teachers deal with. There is no teacher shortage. I know several kids who graduated recently who can't find a job in a school district. If you are specialized in certain areas, you can get a job in MPS. Otherwise, it's pretty tough finding a FT teaching position in other school districts. There's plenty of kids who would love to have a good paying job with great benefits and pension, with 3 months off.
  8. Would I take a Braves top prospect and McCann for Carlos Leal? Yes. But there's no way that would ever be offered. This is true since McCann plays for the Yankees. Duh, forgot he was a Yankee now. But yea, I would still take a top prospect from the Braves ; )
  9. I don't know why it's a given Phillips will have one of the corners, he needs to make it to MLB first. For that matter it's not a given that Brinson will hit at the MLB level. I agree they would like him to be the long term answer there, but he needs to prove he can do it. Finally, why are we waiting until 2020 for Ray? If he has a big year next season, he could very realistically make it to MLB by 2018.
  10. I just don't have a lot of confidence in Vaughn stepping up in a big way. Yea, Teletovic will get more minutes. They can go long more often with Maker, or go small with Deli and MCW getting more minutes. At least it happened now instead of a month into the season or something. Now they have time to react and plan accordingly.
  11. Would I take a Braves top prospect and McCann for Carlos Leal? Yes. But there's no way that would ever be offered.
  12. If you read my post above, pretty clear I don't see any sense in this whatsoever. At the same time, I know where JB is coming from. He wants to try to win every year, and when that is the goal it makes sense to consider an old catcher or maybe a Suppan type SP or throw money at a BP arm or two. Because you can do all those things and maybe win 2-3 more games, end up at 78 wins instead of 75. So I understand it, I just don't agree with it. Like, at all.
  13. I say we trade Fond du Lac to OH. Then move our AAA team to Toledo. AAA problems WHOAA SOLVVD
  14. Just too early to tell how the SP will shake out. Of course, you can never have enough. The only way I see them acquiring a true top tier SP is via a Braun trade. Sure, at some point if they have too many OF, they can trade Santana or Broxton, even Brinson. But I don't see getting a top tier SP back for that. You would have to package several prospects, and Stearns isn't going to do that, and shouldn't. When the time is right, they can sign a Wolf or Marcum type. There's always a lot of angst about those type of pitchers, but some of them were productive for a couple years. If the contract is reasonable in amount and length, nothing wrong with a signing like that. Key is they would have to be a #3 or #4 type of guy. As always, they still need to find the top 2 or 3. Step one is to see if Hader, Woodruff, or Ortiz can be one or two of those. This will really determine how quickly the rebuild will take.
  15. Hate to be overly simplistic, but the players will determine who is the CF of the future. In fact, it could change over the years. They won't necessarily have the same guy there for 5 years+. Way too many unforeseen things can and will happen. Injuries, poor performance, someone is better than the current CF, etc. I think they would like Brinson to be that guy. If he can do it all on defense and at the plate, there's your man. Broxton has shown signs he can do it. But over the course of several seasons? Then there's Ray, Phillips, and others who are in the mix. It's not a problem, it's a great situation to have. Chances are not all these guys will be great players, or even average MLB players. And with the guys in A ball, like Clark, they may not even make it at all. If lightning strikes and they're all really good, fabulous. You now have your corner OFs and 4th OF taken care of for years. Plus the potential to trade someone for a position of need. These things work themselves out. Similar to when everyone was concerned with all the SS we had a year or two ago.
  16. Bump. I'm really interested in this. People here are bashing him and I would love to hear someone who has actually seen him play. As others have said, the numbers tell us Nottingham was a bad catcher this year. I think a better question, and this may be what you're getting at, CAN Nottingham be a good catcher? That's where the eye test comes in. Frankly, I think we'll have that answer come spring training. We'll see if the Brewers still believe he can catch, or if he's move to 1B.
  17. Giannis signs team friendly deal, great to see!
  18. Well, publicly they'll say it's a good test for their young players. That's what they've said already about CS.
  19. Actually, it doesn't beg the question. But the answer you're looking for is YES. Nobody but you cares if this team could have won 5 or 6 more games this year. Nobody but you is obsessed with the Davis trade. I can be a contrarian at time as well, so just because you're alone doesn't mean you're wrong. I get you are looking for something different than the rest of us. We want to create a roster in the future that can be a legitimate contender. You want to win as many possible games as possible every year. Those two concepts are mutually exclusive.
  20. Unacceptable. The Brewers rely almost exclusively on developing talent, so having the right locations for minor league teams is sort of...I don't know....critical? Add that this is happening at the worst possible time. During a re-build where they actually have a lot of talent to actually develop.
  21. Winning 3/4 in Wrigley counts as a positive any way you slice it.
  22. Wow, we're giving up on Nottingham this quickly? After playing in a league where he was THREE years younger than average? He still had stretches where he hit very well, which should give us some hope. We'll learn more about him both offensively and defensively next season. Until then, let's not be so quick to hit the eject button. I will agree they could have gotten more for Davis by waiting. That meant no spot for Santana. Also, and this never gets mentioned, what if Davis would have been injured this year or had a bad year?
  23. Expect Reed, since he's on 40 man roster.
  24. Braves to Kissimmee. As usual, every Brewers affiliate has to wait and get the last seat on the merry go round.
  25. He will be 32 to start the year. No, this won't last, but ride the train as long as he's close to this good. Who knows, he may be able to put up a 3.50 for a couple more years. There's value in that as they're rebuilding.
