  1. Clark Eagan taken in 9th round by Pirates. Arkansas via Appleton North HS. Great kid, good luck to him!!
  2. Middle Brooks taking the Nottingham approach. Slowly but surely putting up better numbers.
  3. Nice! Turns out it was worth hanging around for 19 pages, after all.
  4. Watermelonrita?!? Sounds like a bad idea!!
  5. They need to go with a linebacker here
  6. Ryan Braun did not lead his team in OBP the year he was drafted. I'm guessing you would find it's not unusual. Teams draft based on tools and potential, not college performance. I get that. Not trying to overstate the importance of obp when projecting a player. But I'll bet Miami didn't have several players with higher obp. Just interesting for a top 5 pick, could very well mean nothing.
  7. That's still interesting. Let's just say several guys had a higher obp. For Louisville. And he's a tweeter between cf and corner of. Doesn't mean it's a bad pick, just a couple legitimate things to consider.
  8. Yea, these talking heads come up with these comps that are crazy. Unfair to compare these guys to hall of famers or even all stars. Vast majority will never sniff that level of success.
  9. I don't follow the draft until draft day, so I came in with open mind. The film they just played of him, and comments made.... I just don't see anything special in Ray. Seems like there's two better OF on the board if they wanted to go that way, but what do I know.
  10. Yea, hard for me to distinguish between his change and curve. (If in fact he's throwing both of those.) He definitely has a slider that breaks late. I've seen him pitch several times now, and the combo of that slider and locating the fastball is what has made him very effective.
  11. Agree 100%. This is what we wanted. Braun and Lucroy max their trade value by showing they can produce and they're healthy (ok in Braun's case it's relative.) Guys like Carter and Hill are productive and can be flipped. We wanted all this so we could potentially get another Phillips/Hader/Santana/Houser type deal or two. This is no time to "chicken out" and pretend they can contend for anything tis year. Good news is, I'm confident Mark A. knows this, even if Stearns has to remind him every day. As for the talking heads, 90% of them see the Brewers as something to talk about in between Packers' seasons. They know less about Brewers' farm, concept of 6 year control, how a true rebuild work, etc. than the average poster here. And it's their job to know. They all love talking about the Packers though, even though they really don't understand that much better.
  12. Villar is like anyone else, he's not un-tradeable. Problem will be getting a return that would make Stearns want to trade him. Let's remember it's only 1/3 of the season. He doesn't show any signs of slowly down, but just a quick reality check. He's not the type of guy contenders usually want at the trade deadline, limited body of work. Most teams are looking for that gritty veteran if they need IF help. Bottom line, I think it's one of those situations where he's more valuable to the Brewers than what someone is willing to give up. Then again, what would a Villar/Smith package get? or Villar/Jeffress? Brewers will have plenty of talent to dangle, will be interesting.
  13. Agree with Thurston here Game05. Last thing you want to do with brisket is turn up the temps. In fact, brisket is the only cut of meat I bother using the Texas crutch (foiling for a while during mid-cook.) You will still get a nice bark cooking low (225 is what I use, but everyone's different.) Brisket is too expensive to turn into a hockey puck ; ) I wouldn't add holes unless it really gets all clogged up very rapidly. Do you use lump charcoal? If not, I recommend you start there, as it gives off far less ash than briquettes.
  14. There's already far less of this than there was years ago. So someone fights once in a while, fine with me. In fact, maybe MLB could hire a group of former Cardinals players to randomly visit ballparks and jump players who violate an unwritten rule.
  15. Talk about a day with nothing to be excited about! Best I can say is Nottingham with a hit and BB.
  16. We can try to compare Hader to every great lhp. Past and present. But he isn't the same as any of them, nor is the situation the same.
  17. Because it doesn't make sense to modify the development plan for Hader by bringing him up to help a bullpen that doesn't need help, in a losing season, and start his clock for no good reason.
  18. Yea, I get your point. Just saying, they could say anything. Got sore arm between starts, whatever.
  19. Only 1/3 through the season. Broxton was given the job first, and couldn't even put the bat on the ball. He will have another chance at starting every day for a month or longer. If he doesn't, then I'll agree.
  20. Seems like they're sticking to a plan. 90 max for a while, now they let him hit 100. Plus a couple extra days between starts. And he'll skip a start here and there. All to hit the innings they want out of him for the season.
  21. Since when does there need to be a legit reason?
  22. I'm joining the DL club. I think he goes on 15 day DL with tired arm or whatever they want to call it, buys some time to figure out what to do with him.
  23. Isan Diaz with THREE walks yesterday, nice to see. Also, Phillips had two walks. Encouraging!
