  1. Don't feel too bad, you also missed the confusing replay challenge that went with it.
  2. All valid points. But fans are fans. Cubs fans would embrace him after his 1st HR, guaranteed. And Braun isn't exactly loved by most Brewer fans ever since the whole ped thing. Same division thing is a hurdle, but the two teams are in different worlds in terms of where they are. Most trades aren't likely to begin with, and this one has some extra issues, no doubt. But it still makes sense for both sides. Chance of happening? Put me down for 3%.
  3. Why never? You don't think the Cubs are willing to spend whatever it takes to win a WS? I wouldn't even be surprised if they wanted to do the Braun trade, PLUS deal for a pitcher later in the year. And if the Brewers could get Schwarber back as the cornerstone of the deal, wouldn't you take that?
  4. I never heard of it, but I do watch Gold Rush. Another show that started as reality TV, has evolved into staged reality TV. But it's too late, I'm hooked. With that said, now that I know this Friday Night Tykes show exists, no way I would ever watch it. I lived it too long, and had enough of my own reality with youth sports ; )
  5. Yea, in soccer it's called player on loan. It really would make sense in MLB, but 99.9% chance nobody would ever agree to do it.
  6. It does make a lot of sense. Cubs haven't won the WS in 612 years, I'm sure they feel at some point they need to go all in, and I mean really all in. The can always unload money after the season, or even if they don't they can live with it if it meant winning a WS. That could also help Washington get more serious about Braun as well. It is all speculation, but definitely possible.
  7. Simply put, his strikes were getting hit all over the yard earlier this year. So, to compensate, he's afraid to throw strikes = more walks. Vicious cycle that happens to most pitchers at some point in their career, just hope he can get out of it.
  8. Lopez and Hauser...two guys who really need a good outing.
  9. Not necessarily. I don't think they'll pass on a position player if there's not clearly a pitcher who's better. But, even if they do take a pitcher it will take a few years of development, injury risk, etc. Point being, not even close to penciling in anyone from this year's draft into the future rotation.
  10. Back to Villar. I don't see any reason to move him to 3B right now. He had a good month, but way too early to say he's any kind of long term solution at 3B. We don't even know if he's the best long term solution for UT. He is holding down the fort at SS this season, after that he could be traded, moved to platoon at 2B, moved the 3B, or UT. Or, he could still fall flat and turn into yet another AAAA guy.
  11. Yea, I know I'm in the extreme minority. I don't pretend to tell others how they should feel, as there's no right or wrong answer. Most like it, I don't. Honestly, I think it actually works better in MLB than it does in the NFL. Way too many situations where you can't even us it, they still get the call wrong too often, and often times it takes too long. As for MLB, what has the biggest effect on a game? Ball/strike calls. And that can't be reviewed. I would be fine with it if limited to playoffs, where one wrong call could cost a team a series. But in the course of a 162 game season, any bad calls are likely to even out.
  12. Zero chance the Brewers will (or should) play in the FA market next off-season. Zero. Other than a Carter type signing, of course. At some point they will invest in FA, but they're most likely 3-4 years away from that. W/L record wise, they could be every bit as bad next year. That will depend a lot who they trade between now and then. But even in a best case scenario, just no way they add payroll next year.
  13. IR ruins the excitement of great plays. Great TD catch...but wait for IR. What a throw from RF to nail a guy at the plate! Well, no, maybe, wait a few minutes to see. That's not how sports should be, it's about seeing things and reacting real time. IR ruins the excitement, not worth a wrong call here and there.
  14. Looks like Perrin is moving on up to BC
  15. Well, at least they're trotting out a great line-up for him tonight.
  16. Not at all. Not betting they'll all be horrible based on the start to this season. At the same time, no reason to be optimistic that enough will change by 2018 for this to be a competitive rotation, let alone a contending one (which some are suggesting.) Still plenty of arms to be excited about, but many of them are still in the lower levels. I love Lopez. But I also loved Wagner, Ponce, and Taylor Williams. Look what happened, one got trade and two got hurt. D Williams hurt too. Point being, yes things can get better but don't discount how things can get worse for some of these guys too. It's nowhere near an automatic journey from AA to MLB, no matter how much talent a player has. Then, whoever does emerge, I just can't see them being really effective and consistent right away- not four of them. I really see a couple of them pushing through and being at least solid starters by 2018. Either guys currently in the system, or via trade. Then you wait for the next wave currently in A+ and below to get a couple more. That's why I think 2020 is a more realistic time frame for the rotation (and team) to be competitive again.
  17. Perrin night is just as exciting as Hader night!
  18. Wow, yea I actually agree with Briggs too! I see Villar as a UT, competing with Rivera for that spot. (Can't help it, I still have faith he will hit eventually.) Perez can hold down 3B for the time being, until a better option presents itself. May as well let Walsh go, really. Doesn't need to happen today, but I just don't see where he fits.
  19. I don't think it's disingenuous in the least to state we have to completely gut the rotation. In fact, it's already gutted. Going into the future, let's say Nelson is a #2, Anderson can be a #4, and one of the Jungmann, Davies, Guerra, Cravy, etc ("Fringy group") can prove to be good enough to fill the #5 spot. Then we have a group of more talented guys in the upper minors (Hader, Houser, Kodi, Lopez, Ortega) from which we could hopefully fill at least one spot. This is the "throw everything against the wall and see what sticks" approach. Quantity doesn't mean four of those guys can be consistent, quality starters. Anderson has shown nothing to believe he can start, much less be a solid #4. Guerra is too old to be a part of a future contending rotation. Jungmann and Cravy? Just no. Houser, Kodi, and Lopez are getting ripped. I have no doubt someone will step up out of that group above, but not four of them. I would be thrilled if ONE on that list (including Hader) can develop into a reliable MLB SP. And yes, trades can bring in more pitching talent. But all of this is pure speculation, and there's just no way this all comes together in the next year or two.
  20. Not many positives again tonight. Nottingham slowly but steadily coming on, couple more knocks tonight. Broxton will be in Milw again just a matter of when.
  21. I need to double-check, but pretty sure she can be stashed on Helena's non-active roster for a while.
  22. That sounds strikingly similar to the strategy for the last 15 years.
