  1. Yes, he is now. Seems like a Fiers type, he doesn't have a plus FB, but has FB/change/curve and can control and locate all of them. My own opinion, but I've always felt college pitchers should handle low A ball relatively easily, or I don't have a very high hopes. Perrin seems like he's ready for BC at the break if he keeps this up.
  2. This may be the night. I can feel it. Brevard WILL score a run.
  3. The casual fans don't care much about winning and losing either. They come out to tailgate, and once inside they're there to eat, drink, talk, walk around. And I do agree casual fans, in general, don't understand the rebuilding. But my point was they're slowly starting to get it and hearing about Arcia and some of the others. It's all over sports talk radio, the Journal, etc. Like I said, I'm starting to have more casual fans bring it up as the weeks go by. And all this before the prospects have been hyped by the Brewers. Leading up to next season they will, and I really believe Arcia, Phillips, Hader, Lopez, etc. will bring more excitement than Braun. We all like shiny new toys. Same thing happened with Hardy, Fielder, Weeks, etc. if you recall. Fans loved Sexson, Burnitz, some of those guys. But they were quickly forgotten.
  4. Suter has a 12:1 K:BB ratio and has only allowed 1 HR in his 4 starts 19.1 Innings, Lopez has just had some problems with walks. I'm not too worried with the AAA rotation yet. You're not? First of all, that's only two guys, what about the other three? Lopez WHIP is over 2.00! Suter has some good peripheral numbers, but has given up a ton of hits. Again, I agree it's early. But if we're looking at results so far, it is worse that the Brewers rotation.
  5. Sorry, I just strongly disagree. I think fans realize they are rebuilding, and are far more excited to go out and see the top prospects when they arrive. They rather go out to see Arcia, Phillips, Hader, etc. than hanging on the past. Those guys offer a sense a hope. Having Braun means making plans to go out to see a 36-49 team instead of a 38-47 team. Big deal. No way of ever proving this one way or another. All I know is I'm hearing more and more fans (even casual fans) bring up Arcia and Hader, so I know there's some excitement there.
  6. Fortunately, they won't be playing in BC next season. As for Perrin, maybe he's a guy they could fast track. I've always liked the idea of fast tracking a college pitcher into MLB, someone who is not a top prospect. Just real solid, not much to improve on, basically close to their ceiling already. I thought of Sneed as a guy like that, Perrin could fit that description too.
  7. Yea, I never thought you were advocating for the Brewers to eat 90% of Braun's contract. Point is, everything should be in play. For example, if a team offered two Top 10 prospects and 3 other high ceiling guys from the low minors, then suddenly eating a big portion of his contract would be worth consideration.
  8. You know, I give Auggie a lot of crap. I get the folksy old player bit, like it or not. But is it too much to ask for him to pronounce the names correctly?!? Especially those on his own bahwclub?
  9. Is some of this due to where they are pitching? Or are they just not good? Impossible to know the answer to that for sure. Burgos and Suter are probably just not that good. Each had some success at times, but never enough to indicate they could ever be more than a AAAA type starting pitcher. Lopez, of course, had a great year last year. I don't buy it's all due to CS, but who knows. And, again, it is still very early in the season.
  10. Worst yet, entering the season there was the chance guys like Burgos and Suter could come up and help for awhile. And then Lopez, for hopefully more of a long-term solution. But early on, AAA rotation is every bit as bad as the Brewers rotation.
  11. I didn't care for that Wang for brunch.
  12. Green Bay would be worse. Now you would have three teams competing for attendance. Brewers, TRats, and the GB AAA team. And the stadium they have in mind for the Bullfrogs would be smaller than the TRats stadium, definitely not a AAA type of stadium.
  13. I agree Nelson is not the ace on a title contending staff. Of course an Arrieta would solve a world of problems, but I think they can win without a dominant ace. What if the rotation consisted of 5 Jimmy Nelson's, or close to that, along with a great bullpen and really solid line-up and defense?
  14. Stearns has said many times every situation is unique. The Brewers are now following the Cubs model 100%, or any other team (KC, Houston, Pittsburgh, etc.) And nobody here is advocating they do so either. In fact, Stearns doesn't even know exactly how the team will be reconstructed yet, the process has only begun. As they stand today, the rotation is in shambles. Davies is the first guy up, and has struggled. The next, Lopez, is struggling in AAA. After that, Hader, who can be dominant but also struggle to get through 5 innings. I'm not saying write all these guys off, every one of them could be quality MLB pitchers. What I AM saying is this rotation is a long way away from being a title-contending rotation. I think you would agree? So why in the world would you hang on to Braun and Lucroy through that whole process when they'll be on the wrong side of 35 before the Brewers are competitive again? It is true there are no guarantees the Cubs model, Astros model, or any other form of rebuilding will work. But it does have the best possible chance of success.
  15. No Arcia tonight, just scheduled day off? Also, seems Salas is following the path of Ortega with inexplicable success. No ks or walks, but a very good outing. This is getting weird.
  16. No, and they never have. Maybe his rookie year when people wanted to check him out, I can see that. But 99% of the time people go to a game for other reasons. They have season tickets, someone gave them tickets for a game, they were invited as part of some event, etc. Only other reason is winning, and that really only affects September and the following season.
  17. According to Segura, it was not. At least according to that article. It was a suggestion from Luis Mercedes.
  18. I don't know if he's a jerk or not, but I do know he pretty much separates himself from teammates. He almost never hangs around in the clubhouse in spring training or the regular season. Either way, I doubt that has much of anything to do with the Brewers desire to trade him. This is a major decision in how they build the team for the future, and I can't believe they wouldn't pull the trigger is he was a nice guy.
  19. Ironic that the Angels may be a good trade partner, since Braun is a Socal guy, they have plenty of money, etc. If the Angels are in the thick of it, I could see them being a player since they haven't been a factor for years. Only problem is, Angels would have to give us their entire farm system for Braun and that may not even be worth it.
  20. Is this August cat on the pre-game, post-game or both? I try not watch any of that. Sometimes I catch something just because the channel is still on after the game. I don't know why they don't just show the full Counsell press conference after each game. While not earth shaking news ever, at least it's more interesting than hearing multiple Augusts babble on about how the Baw club is doing.
  21. The Brewers have 5 players who have a possible shot at playing in the ALL Star game, and that doesn't even include Nelson and Santana. Braun and Jeffress are in if they continue this pace. Lucroy, Carter, and Scooter are all in the mix at this early stage of the season. No, I'm not THAT optimistic. I understand all 5 won't make it....but still interesting.
  22. You know, the story Danzig posted is bothering me the more I think about it. IF it's true lowering Segura's hands has made his swing better and more consistent, why didn't anyone on the Brewers staff figure that out? We'll see if Segura can put up numbers close to this for an entire year before I get too excited. And, we really don't know if it's more psychological or if lowering his hands really has helped. But it does make me question what hitting coaches even do around here. (Or pitching coaches for that matter.) Are they really just glorified cheerleaders? Or use simplistic words of wisdom like "use the opposite field?" Seems to me a hitting or pitching coach has two jobs. Figure out what the player can do mechanically and otherwise to improve results, and equally important get them to buy in and actually DO it. So it does bother me when someone suggests a simple adjustment to Segura, and it produces results when the Brewers had him for a couple years and never had him make that adjustment.
  23. I have never agreed with this argument. The Brewers have lost many fan favorites over the years in FA, trades, retirement. There's always the next guy to cheer for. Attendance will have a ceiling and floor through the rebuilding years with or without Braun/Lucroy. During the summer months you have company picnics, bachelor parties, family outings, etc. These events won't be cancelled because Braun is traded. Most fans go to Miller Park for the entire experience. I have never once heard anyone say "I'm not going to any more games because Prince is no longer a Brewer." Ultimately, winning and losing drives attendance. Trading Braun and Lucroy for players that will help them win games in 2020 is more important. With all that said, as Tplush said, it will be difficult finding the right trading partner. Needs to be someone who really, really wants/needs a big RH bat. Then, it has to be a big market team that can take on his salary. Finally, it has to be a team that has the players available the Brewers want, and be willing to part with them. That's a lot that has to go right.
  24. I won't consider this resolved until I hear the announcement that a contract has been signed.
  25. Just guessing, but I don't think they have a AAA worthy stadium do they? And questionable whether Madison would have the necessary attendance to make it work?
