  1. Weren't you the same guy who predicted Izturis would OPS .800? But seriously, thanks again. Already called for an appointment, and the guy was very friendly and helpful, so off to a good start.
  2. Thanks TooLive. I have never heard of them, but I will definitely give them a try, nothing to lose.
  3. So here's the deal. I feel like I'm getting taken for a ride whenever I take a car in for routine maintenance. I'm wondering if any auto mechanics are part of our BF family. Better yet, in the Appleton area. Other than obvious things like oil changes, tires, and wiper blades I have no idea if something is really needed when they say it is. A few recent examples: - Extra charge for "shop fees" Just seems like a way to make extra money. -Took a vehicle into one shop, and they said I would need new rear brakes real soon. Took it to a different shop at the next time for oil change, and they told me my FRONT brakes are just about shot- rear is fine. What the ___? -Went to pick up a car and was told they "found" a nail and removed it, charged me $18 or something like that. Could have happened I guees, but suspicious. -Hear various opinions from shops on whther transmission flush and/or coolant flush are needed, or a good idea. These examples are from 4-5 different shops, so it's not like I just found a bad place. In short, I'm looking for that proverbial "honest" mechanic. I'm more than willing to pay for something if it's needed, as long as it's a "fair" price and really is needed. Maybe I'm just venting, but if any mechanics out there have any suggestions I'm all ears.
  4. Ishikawa is redundant. Gamel is the LH 1B off the bench.
  5. I'm opimistic becaue they don't NEED to make any moves at all. That's a pretty good position to be in going into the hot stove league. They CAN extend Hart, Gomez, or Aoki but don't NEED to. They could trade Hart, Ramirez (or anyone else for that matter) but don't have to do so. Just sit back and see if someone offers outstanding value. You can sign a Marcum or someone similar, but again you don't NEED to do that. This team as it stands today needs to add a couple bullpen arms, and they're in contention again for the division and beyond. (And they have already addressed the BP to some degree internally, and have a couple more options they can go to internally.) Now, you can say I'm overly-optimistic about such a young rotation. Maybe I am. But I'm generally not a very optimistic person when it comes to the Brewers. I have just seen enough of the young guns to be convinced they can be good enough to keep this team in contention. And if they are in contention come August, well, they can always trade for a rotation arm to help down the stretch.
  6. Assuming no trades are made, Gamel will be on the bench. However, he can see a lot of playing time if he's willing and able to use a lot of gloves. He could back-up at 1B,3B, and RF. Not to mention a power LH as a PH every night. So he could still get plenty of playing time, especially since all three of those starters at those positions are RH. Where he goes from there depends on his performance, and/or injuries at these positions. But I think that role is a perfect fit for him to start the season.
  7. I disagree. You still have Thornburg and Burgos if one of those 5 gets injured or can't get the job done. And I'm not sure what else Estrada can do to become a "known quantity." So basically we're talking about 5 young guys for 3 spots. I'll take that depth and payroll any day.
  8. Peralta and Burgos. I will be pleasantly surprised if Thornburg can be a decent back of the rotation starter. Equally pleasantly surprised if Rogers can stay healthy for more than a year at time. Not taking a cheap shot, just being realistic. But Peralta obvoiusly has the dominant stuff, so hard not to get excited about that. Burgos is the other one, mostly because I've been on his bandwagon of one all year, and the guy just kept producing. Nice movment on his pitches, which usually translates well to MLB.
  9. I don't know which is more strange. That the two most annoying sounds happen to be occuring in the same game, or the fact that one of them isn't Larusa's voice.
  10. I wouldn't get too caught up in who's a #2 or who's a #3, etc. Fiers and Estrada have pitched very well this year in starting roles. Rogers and Peralta have shown they have the stuff. Then you still have Thornburg and Burgos. At any point in the season one of those guys will look like a #2, some other guy will look like a #5. All that will get sorted out over the next 3 years. I feel perfectly comfortable with that rotation, and don't want a Looper or Wolf type to make me feel better there's a scrappy veteran in the rotation. Would lobe to have a LHP in there somewhere, but oh well.
  11. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't get excited until/unless they're 3 games out. So count me in as officially excited!!!
  12. T-Rats win on a wild pitch!!! Man, I wish that game tomorrow was not a noon start... Mark my words. 5 years from now (give or take) Erickson will be the Brewers Manager, and Counsell will be GM.
  13. Not to jinx anything, but Veras is yet another guy who has really stepped up.
  14. That's how I feel. I'm proud of the way they're finishing the season, playoffs or not. I'm not a big RR fan, but he's winning me over with this late season surge as well.
  15. Schafer, Bianchi, Ishy and they still put up an 8 spot. I have some 'splanin to do, now that I finally convinced my wife it's impossible to make the playoffs. All they've done is win since then!
  16. Considering the time he spent batting 6th with Isturis, the pitcher and whomever was the catcher batting behind him I think 74 runs is pretty good. Because his career numbers are a better indicator of what to expect going forward than what he has done just this year. That's what I heard last year when McGehee was struggling. Turned out the trend was a much better indicator than career numbers.
  17. Yes, his walk rate is low. But most of his career has been in the 8 spot, where you need to be more aggressive at the plate with the pitchers spot behind you. Lucroy is a very good hitter, and would adjust to the 2 spot. I have no doubt he would realize with Braun behind him, he needs to take more walks. Personally, I think other than speed Lucroy is the perfect guy to hit in the 2 spot. Something is going on with Weeks, whether it's injury, his head, who knows. But I don't want someone that streaky in front of Braun.
  18. I would start the year with Estrada in the rotation, but as Peralta and/or Thornburg develop I would have no problem putting him back in the pen if it comes to that. The other issue is innings. If they do go young, it will help if Estrada starts some games to keep innings off the young guys arms. Also, keep in mind this is looking at things 7 months from now. My opinion could very well change depending on what happens in September, Spring Training, injuries, etc. But as of today, I'm not convinced either Peralta or Thornburg can be penciled in to the rotation for next year.
  19. Gallardo Fiers Rogers Estrada Burgos Why Burgos and not Peralta/Thornburg? I think Burgos has hit his ceiling, and may as well see what he has at the beginning of the year. Plenty of time to adjust if he can't hang. Plus, looking at his lines this year, he has been dominant when he's on. I would like to have Peralta and Thornburg start in AAA. I don't think either has hit their ceiling, and have things to work on. If all goes well, they will be in the rotation in 2013, probably sooner rather than later. But I want to stay young and cheap, in fact a lot of the vet names mentioned above may not even have better numbers than our young guns. Keep payroll down this year, and stay flexible.
  20. I agree with Rock. No big money should be spent on a reliever- closer or not. They simply need to do a better job of scouting, and finding guys in FA who can get the job done for a low price. Also, look to trade for guys who have shown some success, and you still control for 3-4 years. There are middle relievers all over who have had a couple of good years. I would have no problem trading borderline-ish type of prospect for a "proven" middle reliever. Cost almost no salary, so no risk.
  21. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I'll ignore the defensive metrics, I'm stubborn that way. 11th in OPS out of 30 CFs, so roughly he's in the top 3rd of CFs offensively, and plays a great defensive CF. Not too bad at all, and far from a major need. As with everyone else on the roster, I'm fine if he's traded depending on what you get in return. But I would be perfectly comfortable if he was the starting CF next April.
