  1. Same here. It used to be only certain players, certain situations, etc. As soon as EVERY player did it after EVERY hit it jumped the shark. Much like the Tony plush phenomenon. I used to set my DVR every time he was interviewed. When it was natural, just great authentic comedy at it's best. But when he started trying to play the role it got old.
  2. I don't assume they melted under the pressure of post-season. The fact is they melted, regardless of the reason. Life isn't fair, and the playoffs are a zero-sum game. You either get the job done, or you don't. I'm not so sure Greinke would have been fine without the errors, it's impossible to know how an inning, or the next inning would have developed without the errors/ could-have-been-errors. He wasn't missing bats at all, literally.
  3. Depends what the goal is. Sure, the line-up doesn't need to be overhauled to get back to 90+wins. Neither does the rotation. But that's not taking a step foward. It's getting back to where we were at best. Could even be worse if we're counting on the likes of Gamel and Green, who are somehwat unknown quantities. But even at that, fine, replace Fielder with someone who ccan get you a .780ish OPS and the world won't end. The problem is the rotation. We can keep that the same and expect different results? Isn't that the definition of insanity? Or will Marcum and Greinke somehow perform much better in the post-season? There are no magic answers, but the solution for making a deeper run always lies with the rotation. So the way I see it, they can keep it the same and still be competitive. Or, improve the rotation somehow if a WS title is really the goal.
  4. In addition to the reasons already given, I don't trust his swing long term. It has served him well throughout his career, but he has the type of swing that can fail him very suddenly as he gets a little older. It's not a smooth, sweet swing ala Ryan Braun, Votto, Pujols, etc. It may not happen this way, but it wouldn't surprise me if suddenly he really struggles. Could be in 2 years, could be in 5. But I wouldn't bet on the numbers he's putting up to be the same over the next 5-10 years.
  5. Meh. I never believed liking your manager leads to any wins. I think it's important for players to RESPECT the manager, but I don't believe LIKING him matters. Players play for themselves and their teammates. For that matter, how do we know whether the players lost respect for RR for some of his decisions? We wll probably never know. Just a complete guess on my part, but I gotta believe a guy like Braun is thinking...why in the world wouldn't we pitch Yo in an elimination game? Why did we have Mark Kotsay in CF? Chances are, we would have lost this series anyhow. I know.
  6. Hart would not be unproductive for 1B. Coming off a .866 OPS season is plenty good enough. Better than Ryan Howard, as an example. Even if that number came down a bit, it would be productive. The position players, line-up, etc. really revolve around Corey Hart. If he insists on playing RF and leading off, I would try to swing a trade. With Prince gone, he needs to embrace being in the middle of the line-up, or move on. Same thing on defense. I think he could play 1B, probably better than Prince if he's dedicated to making the transition. A move to 1B would open the door for Green, Gindl, FA, just about anyone becomes an option. If they are "stuck" with him in RF, now you may have to shop for a 1B, or dedicate the position to Gamel. Then Green gets 3B. Casey better be serviceable at 1B, so he can back-up Gamel and Green at the corners, or he really brings no value. Then they need a SS regardless of all of the above. I would target whichever Mets SS you can get. Reyes, or if they re-sign him wouldn't mind Tejada at all.
  7. I agree with Invader. Nobody is untouchable other than Braun and Yo. I would add Axford to that short list. Beyond that, if you can get a fair trade for anyone else you have to at least strongly consider it. Should be interesting to see if the Brewers are legit player for Reyes. Or if they even WANT to be a serious player. Hart to 1B or traded, I'm all for that. Is Green athletic enough to make the transition to RF? I loved what Morgan brought to the team, but one year is enough. As usual, a big part of the hot stive league will be about what they do with the rotation. Could be anywhere from doing nothing at all to trading and combination of Greinke/Marcum/Wolf. I don't see a reason why Peralta wouldn't be in the rotation. If not in April, certainly before the All Star break.
  8. Right about now I'm still fuming after every shot of the Cards dugout. It's not the joy of being in the WS, it's almost like a collective smirk...like "knew we would beat the Brewers."
  9. I've valued defense about as much as the Brewers front office, but this series has changed my mind. I'm at the point where I want to see solid defense day in, day out. And with Prince leaving, it's a good opportunity to revamp the roster accordingly.
  10. I posted this in the Pitching Matchups thread, but here's a good place to repost. We're going to win Game 5. Greinke is in the clubhouse right now cross-breeding his filth to produce never seen before ultra-filth. He may walk alone, but it will be with a Game 5 win. This is the redemption tour. First it was Yuni. Last night Wolf. Tonight it will be Greinke and Hart. Then, Game 6 Marcum and Weeks. you heard it here first.
  11. That won't matter. We're going to win game 5. Greinke is in the clubhouse right now cross-breeding his filth to produce never seen before ultra-filth. He may walk alone, but it will be with a game 5 win.
  12. If you want to go with Narvy, I really don't think his one inning in Game 3 would prevent him from starting Game 5. It's not like you're expecting 8 innings out of him, you would be looking for 5 then turn it over to a well-rested bullpen. Not saying they SHOULD do that, I still think you stick to the current rotation.
  13. So, someone had to start this. What are your thoughts on RR's moves (or lack thereof) in the 6th inning of Game 4? It's fascinating to me that RR even admitted in the post-game press conf that he doesn't even know why he made the decision to stick with Kottaras/Wolf/Morgan. He stumbled through the options he had, and how TLR would respond. But he came right out and said he doesn't know why he didn't use a PH.
  14. The term "stopper" gets throw around a lot. What does it mean, who really is considered to be a stopper, etc. Well, Randy Wolf just defined the term. Stating the obvious, but if they lose that game we're in a world of hurt. Now it's 2-2, and I suddenly feel much better about winning 5 and 6 and putting this thing to bed.
  15. Greinke wins tonight. Summoning all his inner filth in a dominating performance. The Marcum joins the redemption train, winning Game 6. Then you have Yo and Greinke going in Game 1 & 2 of the WS at home on full rest.
  16. The term "stopper" comes to mind. This series was looking bleak and along comes one lone Wolf.
  17. Tonight's line-up will be very telling. If RR really believes in what he said and did yesterday, then shouldn't Kotsay be in CF again tonight? What has changed since yesterday, using his own reasons for the decision?
  18. That sounds about right RockCo. Best lineup suggestion I've seen for tonight.
  19. RR wont need to explain anything. Our local media wont press the issue, and the natl media wont care.
