  1. Vehemently? How bad was it? He just wouldn't leave the batter's box. Ump gave him plenty of time to make his point, but Braun kept it up too long. Easy decision really, Braun pretty much acted like he wanted to get run. A lot of it goes back to Corey Hart's AB where two strikes were called at the knees/ below the knees.
  2. He is? Agreed with most of your post until your last sentence.
  3. JHJ, you're now officially a Brewer. 73-51 are you kidding me?
  4. Here are the players with most PH for contending NL Team: .286 Kotsay .263 Burroughs (AZ) .250 Hamilton (STL) .241 Gload (PHI) .239 Conrad (ATL) .192 Burrell (SF) .216 NL Avg for PH Yes, like all stats this doesn't tell the whole story. It does tell me PH is even tougher than I thought. So, you bring up Green or Gamel tomorrow for the primary purpose of PH, and I find it hard to believe they could outperform Kotsay in that role.
  5. Ok, then who should the Brewers use as the first and second options to PH vs RHP late in games?
  6. I hear that! Even worse are the ones who want to take it further and act like they really DO have those seats. I think i'm going to take advantage of the situation and walk around a lot and watch the game from different angles, check out various nooks and crannies of Miller Park, etc. As often as I've been there, I'm always glued to my seat because I actually want to watch the game.
  7. Are there exceptions? Of course. Does any of us know ahead of time who are the exceptions? No. All I know is it's unlikely that Betancourt will continue to beat his batting projections by anywhere near as much as he has been the last two months. It's also unlikely that Kotsay will continue to bat three-something with RISP. That doesn't make me a pessimist; that doesn't keep me from enjoying this wonderful season. It's just the reality of the situation. It's unlikley that Betancourt will stay as hot as his last two months, but it is likely he can retain his current OPS for the rest of the season. Just as he isn't as great of a hitter as he has shown recently, he's also not as bad as he performed earlier in the year. As Denny Green would say "He is who we thought he would be." As far as Kotsay goes, we just disagree. His stats for the past four years tells me one thing. He shouldn't be a starter. Guess what? He's not. His job is to PH, and he has done that well. Now to get that out of him, you do need to give him the occasional start to keep him sharp. That hurts a bit, but it's worth it to get a few game winning RBIs out of him. As much as I wanted green up earlier this year, and still do, I wouldn't want either Green or Gamel in that role over Kotsay. I don't care if his OPS was .150 over the past 4 years. He's delivering when called upon THIS year, and that's all that matters. You mention what history shows us. THAT'S what history shows us. A player is in the right situation at the right time, and it just works. Stats may say it isn't supposed to happen, it just does.
  8. Thanks for the advice. Yea, I would never sit in anyone's seat until at least the 3rd inning, probably the 4th. Even then I won't feel 100% comfortable, because it will be a bit humiliating to get booted.
  9. Well, yea. But there are managers who would be more strict with pitch counts.
  10. So I had to resort to buying standing room only tix for the last game of the homestand tomorrow. Where exactly CAN you stand? I know pretty much anywhere behind the bleachers is fine, but can you stand right behind home plate on the lower level for example? Or will an usher tell me to move on? What is the etiquette for slipping into seats that are not occupied? How many innings would you wait? I understand it would be very difficult to "sneak" into really good seats, but how about terrace?

  12. It's easy when your starter gives you 7 or 8 innings every night. It's not auto-managing when you have a stretch of a few games where yout have to use the bullpen more. Suddenly you have to make decsisions about how many games in a row some of these guys can pitch, how much you use Loe, etc. It's also not an automatic decision when to take a SP out. I was shocked he left Wolf in as long as he did in 1-0 game, but it worked out. Not that pitch count was an issue, but he has baserunners on i nthe 7th, and RR let him get out of it. That is by no means cruise control managing. In general, he is starting to stretch out the SP a bit, letting them try to get through anothe rinning if they're at or close to 100 pitches. This only works because he rarely skipped any of Narveson's starts when he could have. So these guys are going deeper into games because RR has kept them fresh. That's not automatic either. It's big picture thinking, and a whole lot of managers would have skipped narveson's starts far more often than RR has.
  13. Actually 28-10 isn't that crazy with the schedule for the rest of the season. No doubt, the odds are firmly against 100 wins, but it wouldn't take a huge fluke to get there.
  14. Who says Wolf is the #4 starter? Just because it looks that way on paper before the season, Wolf has out-performed Yo. Yo has abetter K/9 but that's about it. Wolf has the best ERA among starters, and we're deep enough into the season where that's not a small sample anymore. Even Wolf's WHIP is almost identical to Yo. Greinke has been great other than 2 horrific back-to-back starts months ago. Marcum almsot always gives you a good outing. So it comes down to this. Does Wolf replace Yo in the playoff rotation, or do they use a 4 man rotation? The jury is still out in my opinion. It would be nice to throw a lefty in the mix. Yo doesn't seem to be able to battle through when he doesn't have his stuff, and that really bothers me. A team like Philly can put up a 5 spot right off the bat, and with their rotation that will be difficult to make up. Let's see what happens over the last 40 games, often times these things take care of themselves.
  15. Agree Wolf/Kottaras is working. If that's what makes Wolf comfortable, it's worth doing. Odd that he can't get on the same page with Lucroy, but whatever. A side bonus is you can use Lucroy to PH, and that worke out pretty well last night.
  16. Dillard? My bad, must have had the sheriff on my mind!
  17. Remember Weeks is coming back. So I see Weeks for Lopez. Then you're left with Counsell/Wilson/Hairston. Wilson's ONLY value would that he's RH. (If Green replaced Counsell, Hairston would be the only RH off the bench.) I'm thinking: Weeks for Lopez Green for Wilson Vet PH for Counsell (Trade for Giambi, Thome type) Loogy for Dillon (Another trade would be necessary) If they made those changes, they would be in about as good of a position possible. I'm fine with Kotsay, the guy has proven he can PH. And that will be the main use of anyone on the bench in Sep/Oct.
  18. Impossible to know the difference in wins, but yes, Macha, Sveum, WHOA SOLVD, or anyone would have won significantly more games this year with Greinke/Marcum vs Bush, Parra, Davis. There are other positives and negatives comparing this season's roster to last, but that's 90% of it right there. With that said, I will give RR credit, because I can't help but give credit to the manager when the team is performing at this high of a level.
  19. It doesn't look like a guys from a bad/mediocre team will have numbers significantly better than Fielder/Braun. So I think we can count on the MVP coming from a playoff team. (Unlike the AL, where Bautista has a shot at it.) Biggest problem for Braun/Fielder is their vote may be split. Braun winning the batting title would help his cause, as winning the HR crown and/or RBI crown would help Fielder. Even in 2011, those are the first 3 numbers most voters look at.
  20. Yea, I've seen comments about Green playing 2B, Gamel in RF.... that's just not going to happen. Frankly, at this point, I'm not sure it makes sense to bring either guy up to be used strictly as a PH. If Green plays in some sort of platoon at 3B, I'm all for it. But this is one area where I DO agree with the naysayers. Pretty tough to bring a guy up who almost never pinch hits, let alone at the MLB level in high pressure situations. So if they're not going to get some starts, don't bother. I would rather trade for a Giambi, Thome, etc. type of guy. LH experienced power bat off the bench. Plus, that player could be used as DH vs the Yankees in the WS. DM is not stupid, he's got to know this roster has to be tweaked coming down the stretch and into the playoffs. You just can't afford to have 4 redundant players on the bench. But I think Casey is doing just enough for them to say "let's not mess with this."
  21. Just win the WS this year, and Prince can go wherever he wants. Also, just a little edit for the OP. They most likely won't be playing AZ/SF, they'll be playing the Braves.
  22. Interesting. Possibly this was Counsell's going away party today? Also, don't waste too much more time reacting to that guy's comments about how all AAA players are bums. Same guy recently posted in an IGT that Axford was horrible, or words to that effect. Just roll with it....we all know MLB players don't came from the minor league system, they come from storks.
  23. They're .400 OBP so far. Isf the rest of the lineu was doing that, we would be winning.
  24. See, that's one thing I don't pin on RR at all. Yuni? Who else would he play regularly at SS? Wilson? He barely has more range than Yuni, and wouldn't OPS at Yuni's level. Counsell? Really? Who else is there?
