  1. I don't think you are premature (but I wish you were). I posted in the Power 50 thread a couple of days ago, that maybe it's time he falls off the 50. This guy has tools on top of tools and we're all pulling for him, but it seems as though the next step seems just a bit out of his reach. I wonder if we should talk about Brad Nelson too? Guys we've been rooting for, for a long time. Bummer.
  2. Hammond out of the pen? What an interesting idea.
  3. Yep good post. But you only pulled one statement out that post. The initial point was that advanced college hitters don't hit .220 in A+ ball without there being some concern, especially with seveeral other team mates having showing it can be done. AA is supposed to be the league that seperates the contenders from the pretenders, not A ball. This guy's trending towards the Mendoza line as we speak, leading the team with 61 strikeouts. If it's a bad place for power hitters, you're telling me that this guy can't toss in a single or a screaming gap double every now and then? If he goes to AA and tears it up, great. I truly hope I'm wrong. But is it asking too much for a smidge of productivity before he gets promoted to AA? Gwynn is a great example, by the way, of MLB staffs actually knowing what they're doing, and us wanna be's forming opinions off of doing nothing but reading box scores.
  4. Caleb Gindl............again. 2 hits already, including a jack.
  5. Ford / Cain / Salome = Manatees win. Good for Darin Ford and Lorenzo Cain. Find a way to let those wheels go to work for you. Salome with the game winner. Nice.
  6. What a great hitter. Congrats to The Big Hurt.
  7. Congrats Craig Biggio, a Hall of Famer. I've always respected this guy's game, and I'm glad there are now some numbers out there that will illustrate to the casual fan that this guy could/can play!
  8. Gosh, a bit touchy? I assure you no malace intended. In fact I've been one of the few that harps over and over to others to let kids grow at their own pace, not the impossible pace dictated by impatient fans. I went through a simlar phase in my late teens and early 20's and I can tell you for a fact barbs were thrown at me that were far more cruel. But my performance dictated that I had it coming, and I took all in good humor, (I was given a pitchfork and a wooden glove as "gifts"). Everything turned out fine for me, and I'm sure they will too for Mat. It does come around, once one learns to relax and let the game slow down. That will come as his game matures. It simply takes time and lots and lots of repetitions.
  9. Haydel out, Gindl in. Travis Wendte still pounding Sally League hitters, 9 more k's tonight with one BB in 5 innings to go to 6-0. I know he's 24, but his performance this year has to be catching someone's eye. Otherwise, he's pretty darn good for a roster filler. If Moss, Anderson and Nelson are still on the list, then this guy deserves at least deserves a sniff.
  10. They should get rid of his wooden glove and invest in a leather one. Might work.
  11. Get all of the rest of your word play in now, as Mr. Drinkard has yet to get almost no one out. His ERA of 30.38 may just not earn him that promotion he's looking for.
  12. I wonder. Last time he was selected, Ned gushed about how much he learned from LaRussa in just those couple of days. Ned's team is pretty formidable now, I'm guessing that LaRussa figures he's helped Ned enough already.
  13. Much as I'd love to cheer for Gillespie, "advanced college hitters" don't hit .228 in A+ ball. Brevard is a tough place to hit, maybe. Escobar - .325, Salome -.320, Erracart - .311, Gamel - .305, Yohannis Perez (who could not hit AA and was moved back to A+) - .303, Darren Ford - .286, Lorenzo Cain - .284, NED YOST .279. This isn't T-Ball where everyone gets a trophy. This is playin' with the big boys. Produce or get passed up by someone else.
  14. Caleb Gindl............again. Boy gonna get a following he keeps this up.
  15. Check page 3 of the above thread concening rounds 6 to 20. Scarpetta has a broken finger and they're waitng for it to heal. He's actually quite eager to sign.
  16. I don't see this year as a "supplement the bench or bullpen" year. We have plenty of those pieces in place with quality players. I see this year as a year where we trade a bunch of our nice pieces for one big name. That being said, I don't see any move being made. If we stand pat, we have a chance to do just fine.
  17. I find that statement curious too. Guy's hitting .340 and his approach is questionable? He drives the ball where it is pitched to all fields. I don't think I've yet to see him pull an outside pitch into a 22 hopper to short. His mechanics are very sound. He has a real short, compact swing, uses his legs well, keeps his hands inside. Please explain what we are missing.
  18. Suprised to hear that he thought they had everyone signed that they wanted. A decent round pick was spent on Bramhill. Also the interviews with Scarpetta said he would sign when his broken finger was proved healed.
  19. Good post! Thanks for the info. Welcome to BFN.
  20. Fans think about today, the manager makes decisions within the context of a 6 month, marathon of a season, with possibly a month of playoff games following that. Hence this classic example of a fan's discussion thread.
  21. Good thing Helena played Missoula, that's the only team they've beaten so far. Good for Haydel to come around a bit. Gindl stays hot. The other teams.....................blech.
  22. Welcome back to Planet Earth, Mr. Jeffress. That's OK, you get a mulligan.
  23. Unfortunately, Iacono and Goetz at their age are beginning to look like roster filler type guys, unless they freak out and start dominating(which would be really nice and welcome). Whiteside at AZ seems OK to me, especially if he uses that time there to grow his game(he'll get plenty of practice blocking balls in the dirt with all those 17 and 18 year old pitchers). 2 college draftee catchers + Snidjers at Helena lets Whiteside stay there and grow at nice comfortable pace. Catchers often seem to take a while.
  24. Darren Ford getting settled in at Brevard. Ford and Cain at the top of the lineup again - that's comforting, peaceful.
  25. 3B for Hereaud, I thought so too. 18 year old Edgar Trejo played 3rd today, getting 3 hits He's a big boy at 6'3''/200 lbs. 21 year old SS Miguel Vasquez with 2 more hits for your undefeated AZ Brewers.
