  1. If the horcrux thing is correct, then refresh my memory as to how Voldemort "possessed" Professor Quirrel in book 1. Wouldn't that have counted as a horcrux as well?
  2. While I share your enthusiasm on Lucroy, it's too early to put rookie league stats into any semblence of potential. That's also true for Gillespie IMO, although I am regularly shouted down on him. Brewer and Cain would be my 4 and 5 for position players. That would also be my observation on Anundsen as well. While he too is intriguing, putting up good rookie level #'s is nice, but at least produce some in A ball before making this list. Dillard would be on my list(for now) instead.
  3. Unearned runs - gack - mess up Welch's big night.
  4. I just stuck mine in Vanguard index 500 and rode the waves. It's coming pretty good about now.
  5. Rowling said in USA Today that she was going to kill Mr. Weasley, but killed Tonks and Lupin instead. Said killing Fred made her genuinely sad. I thought Mrs Weasley going off like that was fantastic, not lame. I too am puzzled about the sword, and how Hagrid fell out of the sky and not only lived, but was standing there when Harry woke up. Tough dude. Things I wished I would have read - A wayward bolt of green light hits the top of a window trim and a small beetle (Rita Skeeter trying for the story of the battle) drifts to the ground dead - Delores Umbridge gets hit with a charm that knocks her nutty and she is interred next to Nevil's parents.
  6. I've spent the last week in StLouis, listening to the talk shows. Fans are calling in, elated that Encarnacion is getting hot at the trade deadline. They are hoping some GM looks at the stats and falls for the "fraud" as one caller called him. He is not loved by Cards fans at all. The are just begging for the Cards to trade him. Where's Redbird Ray been? Maybe he can shed some light here.
  7. I don't like it, but respect what DM has been able to accomplish over the years. So rip out the brake and roll 'er down hill. We'll see what happens.
  8. Quietly, Michael Brantley has now raised his Huntsville avg to .270 and his OBP to .386. Atta boy! 20 years old in AA. Don't give them any reason to send you anywhere but up.
  9. I don't believe Davis throws a splitter. Just a cutter and a "fastball".
  10. A while back, someone did a quick survey asking us to name who we thought were the best players. Those of us who saw Sandy Koufax pitch all had him #1. There were many questions as to why, from those who only had stats to look at. HBO is running When It Was a Game III, and it is a fabulous show. It hi-lites Aaron, Mays, Koufax, Drysdale, F. Robinson, Marichal, Clemente, et al. It is just a fabulous show of the last decade of pure baseball, before free agency, expansion and cookie cutter stadiums kicked in. It will be replayed twice next Monday morning, at 6 and 9 am. Set your TiVO, it is worth it, big time.
  11. Prospect is reliever Jeff Kennard. I checked the Angels board and they don't like it at all. Yankees fans are curious as to why the deal was made.
  12. 7,000+ attend at Joe Davis Stadium? Wow, good for Huntsville. I've been to games there where I would have sworn I was the only one there, it's so spacious.
  13. That Byrnes idea is intriguing. He would look really good coupled with Hart at the top of the order. It is also intriquing because the Diamondbacks are also loaded with prospects throughout their system. Adding another good prospect would help them stay in position to make an extended run, similar to the Brewers.
  14. Maddux has a wonderful reputataion throughout MLB. He has helped people like Kolb, Capuano, Turnbow and Wise. Bush has shown consistent improvement. There were all sorts of great stories surrounding him. Now the Brewers give up a bunch of runs in 2 games and all of a suddden he's called into question? That's precious. Yes you are right, 2 days ago he instantly changed into a dolt. He's no longer any good.
  15. I've seen him twice, Pure gas. Very hard thrower, reminded me of Turnbow. The only reason I can think of why they would trade him is because they would be selling high. He's having a breakout year, after several non-descript seasons.
  16. Alcides Escobar with a 2 run jack. A hint of power? Cool.
  17. Gindl hits one off the left field wall to give the Brewers an early lead. Announcer Steve Wendt remarked concerning Gindl, "He's good at baseball." Made me laugh out loud.
  18. I've seen Parra pitch, and sat right on the bullpen fence and watched him warm up before a game. The 96 is fine(he was more like 93/94 the day I saw him), but even the AAA hitters lit that up. What makes him so tough is the speeds of his breaking pitches. 84/85 on the slider and 76-77 on a change. He had trouble getting the slider over for strike early on in the game and OKC sat on the fastball and smoked it. 3rd inning came, and both the slider and the change started falling in for strikes and they did not have a chance. The point I'm trying to make is that it's always going to be about being a complete pitcher, not just bringing the gas. Greg Maddux still gets guys out lobbing the ball up there. Parra looks to be a wonderful prospect who's really starting to figure it out. I too would wonder if he could be a reliever, but the only way to know is to toss him out there and find out for sure.
  19. Tyson and Pasma........again...........just knockin' 'em down. Harvard boy keeps hitting. Hammond really looking good in his last few starts, after a sluggish start this seaon.
  20. Being a 23 year old in rookie ball generally is not a good sign. But as long as you're in the system, you've got a chance. It's all about producing, plain and simple.
  21. Yeah, at the time I wrote that, he had just had a decent start(after a couple real brutal ones). As you can see with my (for now), I was hoping he'd come around, he looks like a keeper. The point I was trying to make in that post was that a couple of new guys like Pasma and Garcia (and now Hand) may shoot by him if he didn't start to get straightened out.
  22. Oh I gotta believe it would be worse than that.
  23. Thanks for confirming why I haven't watched ESPN in years, especially those cheesy talk type shows. I'll listen to Homer and The D List on the radio, but after that, ESPN is a non-entity. Mike and Mike don't even hold the charm anymore.
  24. Anything that comes out of Skip Brainless is totally irrelevant. Yost will manage to win the game. To expect anything different is dumb, hence you get Skip Brainless. If one is dumb and the other smart, I'll pick the person who is a leader, and has to have their moves questioned everyday as opposed to the goof who's job is to sit back and question with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.
  25. I agree. This my be the point where they pull the lynch pin. There is already speculation that Jocketty, being disappointed that he could not aquire players this year in to prepare for this something like this, may seek another team's GM post next year.
