  1. Without seeing much of either, I really don't have a clue. Based off the numbers, it looks as if Escobar will be better in most categories. I think OBP, Gomez could perform. The real question is can both of these guys produce for the Crew at the bottom of the line-up where they're going to be seeing some wicked pitches? I think their number's are going to be effected greatly by the slot in the line-up Macha pencils them into. Obviously that statement works the same for Hart, McGahee and everyone else, but it really holds true for these two. The Crew could help themselves by putting them positions to see better pitches IMO.
  2. If this is the case, Hart would be my guess. With the success McGahee had protecting Fielder last year, I would think it's going to be difficult for Macha to disrupt that. Saying that, I'm still opposed to this. Having Zaun, Gomez, Pitcher, Escobar at the bottom of our line-up could result detrimental. With Escobar hitting 9th, this doesn't mean that Gomez won't be in the 2 hole. I wouldn't mind testing this so that Hart and McGahee can make the bottom of our line-up more potent.
  3. I would have been sad to not cheer for Mench.
  4. obseessed, I actually agree with pretty much everything you said. For the rights of the fans, I put those examples down, but I actually feel embarressed to be a Brewer fan as well when I hear hears at many of those times as well. It does not surprise me if players get frustrated with the fans here. Take Hall for instance, he couldn't get over the ridicule and boo'ing from the fans. Some can, some can't. It comes with the price of playing the sport, but we as fans need to understand that it can be just as difficult to the player to get out of their slump if the fans continue to boo them...AKA Parra.
  5. I apologize, but the point of this thread was to provide examples of when it's ok and when it's not ok to boo. I'm not saying that people who buy tickets don't have the right to boo...it was more intended to beof an educational discussion of when the time is ok to boo.
  6. What's tiring is hearing our fans boo our own players just for the sake of doing so.
  7. So with all the talk about Hart's arby case, and reading some of your posts, I wanted to get a different discussion going. When is it ok to boo? I know a lot of you are going to say that it's a fan's right to boo whenever they feel, thus the term Fanatic! I for one think differently, and believe there are certain times and situations that are worthy of boos, and times/sitautions that don't. When it's ok to boo: 1) When your team just gave up a 3+ run lead in any given inning...more drastic boos of course in that later innings. 2) When your pitcher gives up back to back HR's 3) When you see a player not hustling (AKA: Johnny Estrada) 4) When your team has lost 7+ games in a row. 5) When a player calls out the organization or fans in a negative way 6) When Gary Sheffield, Barry Bonds, any Cub batter/pitcher, etc comes to bat. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif 7) When your manager makes a horrible decision which causes your team to lose the game or lead. When it's not ok to boo: 1) When someone is in a slump. It's not like they're not trying to get out of the slump. Remember, the good players only get a hit 3 out of every 10 at bats. 2) When a player is trying to make money for himself and his family. 3) When you were cheering for the person just a month prior for being good. (ie: bandwagoning, same as #1) Please add your examples...my main point I guess is that I think it's ok to boo the team, but to boo an individual player is walking a thin line when reviewing the ethics of boo'ing. It just bothers me that so many people will boo their team/players for some basic impairments of the game.
  8. As much as I can't believe he won his case, this is not going to stop me for cheering for him and our Crew. And I am definitely not going to boo him. We need a healthy and productive OF and to me, Hart is a better option than Gerut and Edmonds. If we're going to do anything in the NL central, Hart will need to be a major player. I for one am hopeful that this will motivate him to win some of the bandwagon fans back and to prove to the league that he can still produce to All-Star levels. If he gets off to a good start, how many posters here are you going to see calling him out. Not many. GO CREW!!!
  9. Classic sCrUBs! How sad of an organization.
  10. Bernie... If Gerut is in the line-up starting day, it should be interesting to see what Melvin is able to get from trading Hart. And if this happens, I'm not so sure Gerut would get the starting nod. I think Edmunds would most be the starter and Gerut still the 4th OF. To your question of "why not?" for Lucroy is that Melvin signed Greg Zaun this offseason. I doubt they brought him in and are going to pay him $2 million to ride the bench. I can almost guarantee that Zaun will be the starting C baring any injury. I actually feel that Lucroy will be in AAA and our back-up cather will be Kottaras. As much as I hate Weeks being the lead-off...it sure does sound like Macha's going to keep him in the lead-off position (as reported at the recent Brewers Winter days event). I'm very upset about this because I think the Brewers would be better with Weeks in the #2 or #5 hole. With this though...I'll now go with: Weeks Hart/Gomez Braun Fielder McGahee Gomez/Hart Zaun Pitcher Escobar If Hart comes out of this Arbi hearing pissed off and motivated to show the upper brass they were wrong about him, I think Hart in the 2 hole could be very good for the Crew. With that said, I'm freaked out about the possibility of having Gomez,Zaun,Pitcher and Escobar rounding up our line-up.
  11. I'm going to go with Carlos Villanueva. He had a disasterous year last year and I think he's got a good head on his shoulders. I believe he comes in strong with a sub 2.5 era. Offensively, I like Weeks. I've said it before and I'll say it again....if he bats in the 2 hole or the 5 hole...he'll be an All-Star.
  12. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTefXGGWJLk_EATe6jzbkF/SIG=12nlaaml6/EXP=1264806726/**http%3A//simpsonovi.comics.cz/media/Obrazky/WALL/images/leftorium.jpg I kinda like the way Doug Melvin is making up this line-up! Lefty SP's and Lefty Bench! Lord loves a left ball club!
  13. The Crew plays every team in the AL West this year for interleague play BESIDES the A's. This is because we have to play the bloody Twins 2x. I would have much rather gotten a chance to play the A's and go up against Sheeter. Good luck Ben! Stay healthy bro!
  14. with a healthy McGahee, 3B should be better than last year. Hardy was a joke last year. A full year of Escobar should produce just as many runs due to his speed. If Ricky is healthy, watch out! Prince and Braunny have shown the ability to produce consistently, and I don't see any reason to think they wont' continue producing this year. CF....that's going to be the big question. What's to say that Gomez won't be better than Cameron? I say this because of the amount of K's Cameron had in situations with RISP. He was flat out horrid last year with RISP. One can argue that the loss of K's in that slot may produce more runs/opportunities for bigger innings than what Cameron was able to produce. Hart has nowhere to go but up...I guess he could remain stable, sooo I take that back. Hart is better than what he produced last year, so that's why I believe he has nowhere to go but up. Catcher will be an offensive improvement. I think it all depends on how Macha devises the line-up. I think you need to protect Rickie in front of either Braun in the 2 slot or in front of McGahee in the 5 slot. The rest will take care of itself. The pitching rotation, yes...not the most sexy in the NL, but it will allow an offense than will no doubt produce a lot of runs to win us games. Do you begin the year with Wolf pitching in the 1 slot so you can break up the righties and leftlies? Wolf, Yo, Davis, Bush/Suppan, Parra
  15. Thanks for the stats trwi7. I'm guessing with a better defense during his time with the Crew, his ERA would be a bit lower....that's all speculation though, but I'm just saying. Our defense is way better than it was back then and I feel that with competent pitchers in our rotation, our defense is going to help our pitchers keep us in games.
  16. Is there anything to say about the Crew's defense when he was last a Brewer? Wasn't our defense one of the worst in the league during the DD years? I liked our defense last year and I like our defense going into this year. Gomez and Escobar up the middle will be good for davis. Hopefully Escobar and Weeks will learn each other's rythm's quickly so that they can get DD and the other SP's out of a lot of jams.
  17. So true. This is exactly a deal that if it wasn't made by the Crew, so many of us on here would have come on and posted...."Oh, just another guy that we could have gotten for a reasonable price." But this time, DM pulled the trigger. In a year with only one good free agent arm (Lacky), I think DM did a pretty good job in bolstering our starting rotation. I would have personally gone for Garland so we could have had another righty in the rotation, but I'm not going to complain one bit with DD. Thank you Wolf for deferring your contract so that Melvin could add to the club. Way to be a team player!!!! I would be happy to see some more moves by Melvin (just for my own selfish desires to continuously come on this forum to see if any moves were made....me loves me the hot stove league!!!). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Looks as if Washburn as tunred down the Twins offer. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/81050797.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiUo8cyaiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU I just have a feeling the Doug is going to make this one happen for the Crew. I'd feel so much better about our chances of competing with the Cardinals with another proven arm in the rotation. Make it happen Dougie!
  19. He's staying with the team he's played for since making the Bigs. We would have had to pay more.
  20. When will DM ever realize how advantageous it is to have at least 2 lefties in the BP? It just makes Macha's job all that much easier, and gives Macha and Peterson the ability to strategize the games with more ease. No offense Melvin, but...duh! That's one reason why I didn't like the Hawkins move. Yes, he'll be a nice addition, and hopefully a good set-up guy, but it takes away any financial freedom we had to go get a loogie. Edit: Lofgren is a Lefty, and from the looks of his number's, possibly could be a decent lefty specialist. I'll wait and see how this one goes, but my point remains....I want at least 2 lefties in the BP.
  21. I've got a couple here that I like... Escobar, Weeks, Braun, Fielder, McGahee, Hart, Zaun, Pitcher, Gomez Escobar, Hart, Braun Fielder, Weeks, McGahee, Zaun, Pitcher, Gomez (In either line-up, Weeks is the key. I feel he will, and the the Brewers offense will, excell better if Weeks is protected better) I'd rather not see Weeks in the leadoff role. With our new additional speed this year, I feel that we can utilize Weeks' set of tools in a better way finally.
  22. yeah. I'll take an ex-cardinal hitter...just no more pitchers (and yes, I know Ankiel was a Card's pitcher). No more Soup and Loop's.
  23. Rick Ankiel. Trade Hart + for Javier Vasquez and put Ankiel in RF.
  24. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2aOccbfAqE
  25. mark me down as someone who does not want to trade for Halladay/Lee. I'd rather have Parra, Gamel, Lawrie and anyone else who going to be a part of this deal rather than Doc. I'd rather trade off Hardy and some other prospects to get a 3-5 SP to finish off this year. The price is just way to steep for a shot at playoffs when the team that we have may or may not make the playoffs... Yes, I'm going back to the debate of...does this make us a World Series contender. The answer is a definite 'no'. We are not a WS team anyway you try to convince yourself. Phillies, Dodgers, Cardinals are noticably better than us. Yes, we're only 2 games back right now, but even when we're playing good, we're not as good as those teams. I say save your talent and hope for the best in the offseason. Sorry.
