  1. Weeks will sign an extension the first week of ST. Dale Sveum works day and night with Gomez and changes his swing. Gomez begins to slap hit more and get more singles. Gomez's OBP skyrockets. Marcum beans Pablo Sandoval, and Prince leads a bench clearing brawl. No one messes with the Crew the rest of the season.
  2. Why are they dragging their feet then- get 'er done! Hopefully this is true, and Brewers fans don't get another Christmas Eve miracle like we did four years ago. Thank goodness for the Greinke trade. Otherwise, Brewer fans would be still be forced to talk about the potential signing of Carl Pavano. HAHA!! Greinke >>>>>>> Pavano! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  3. The Candlewood looks nice. I too am going to ST for my first time. My wife and I are staying at Hospitality Suite Resort in Scottsdale. Has anyone stayed there and could provide some feedback?
  4. I'm ok with giving him a shot. After looking at his numbers, I wasn't overlly excited about having him on our run to the WS, however he'll be an ok 8 hitter. The guy did have 144 hits last year. I would like his OBP to be higher so we don't start the inning with a pitcher hitting first. I've seen some reference hitting the P in the 8 hole and Betancourt in the 9 hole in front of Weeks. I'm ok with this as well. Here are some stats for all of you... Betancourt had 18 errors last year. Escobar had 20, Aybar had 21, Figgins had 19. Brenden Ryan had 17. H. Ramirez has 17. Castro has 27. Reyes had 15. jeter had 6. Tulo had 11. Some of those errors probably caused a few runs to score, but some probably didn't. Betancourt had a .974 fielding %. Jeter, Tulowitzki, Renteria were all in the upper .980s. Orlando Cabrera was at .977. JJ Hardy .976, Alexi Ramirez and Brendan Ryan were at .974 (same as Betancourt). Reyes was at .971 and Alcedes Escobar was at a horrendous .964. Betancourt was 9th in all of MLB SS's with 144 hits. Jeter was 1st with 179. YB was 9th in total bases with 225. Tulo was first with 267. YB was 49th for OBP (Horrible!!) So obviously, Dale Sveum has to work with YB to get his walks up to par. Simple as that. According to the defense stats I just posted, I'm not all too worried about his defense. Get his bat at the bottom of the line-up and work on his plate discipline. I wish it was that easy, but it can be done.
  5. Here's a fun clip of Prince and Cecil enjoying some MickyD's love back in 1992. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcvaYgWc9eY&playnext=1&list=PL066471AEF6C83D52&index=49
  6. From that list, the only one that makes me interested is Jose Reyes. He would be our lead off hitter that we are coveting and a decent SS. Not going to happen though. Not when we need to extend Weeks, Greinke/Marcum. I like the Stephen Drew idea as well.
  7. Well, the Greinke trade solidifies Weeks in the leadoff. Weeks Gamel (RF) Braun Fielder Hart (CF) McGehee Renteria Lucroy Greinke
  8. Very interesting. This kinda reminds me of the 30 straight hours I was watching this discussion board the weekend we picked up CC Sabathia. I've got that feeling once again! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. I like this line-up but I'd switch Hart and Lucroy. Hart would end up with horrendous numbers if he were protected by Escobar. Cain, Weeks, Braun, Fielder, Hart, McGehee, Lucroy, Escobar, Pitcher. Another interesting option would be to have McGehee in the two slot. With his approach, he has the ability to hit the ball in the opposite field and complete the hit and run. Cain, McGehee, Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hart, Lucroy, Escobar, Pitcher. This line-up would be better with Weeks at the top of the line-up to get more ABs Weeks, McGehee, Braun, Fielder, Hart, Cain, Lucroy, Escobar, Pitcher. Very top heavy. Weeks, Braun, Hart, Fielder, McGehee, Cain, Lucroy, Pitcher, Escobar. Now we're talkin'!! This one's my favorite so far. Edit: I know I said I'd be happy with Weeks not in the Leadoff, but with that last line-up, he's protected better by Braun versus a guy like Cain, Escobar, or even Hart. With Braun protecting Weeks, Weeks should still see a bunch of fastballs.
  10. So it looks as if there's no designated thread to the 2011 line-up discussion and it was recommended that one be started. Please remember that in most cases there's other threads available to discuss the relevance of whether or not a certain player is going to be a Brewer, so post those comments in those threads. So, let's have it... I for one am a huge fan of Rickie Weeks not being in the leadoff role. With Roenicke's aggressive philosophy, I think we can have some fun with our current line-up. Option 1: Speed at the top with our power hitters well protected by each other. Escobar, Cain, Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hart, McGehee, Lucroy, Pitcher Option 2: Having Weeks getting more AB's and being protected by Braun and Fielder. Bottom of the line-up not as potent. Cain, Weeks, Braun, Fielder, Hart, McGehee, Lucroy, Escobar, Pitcher Option 3: I love this line-up, however the only problem with it is Fielder would be losing AB's. I absolutely love Weeks in the 3 hole though. Escobar, Cain, Weeks, Braun, Fielder, Hart, McGehee, Lucroy, Pitcher Option 4: Probably my favorite option. Well balanced throughout. Escobar, Weeks, Braun, Fielder, Hart, McGehee, Cain, Lucroy, Pitcher I'll be happy as long as Weeks is NOT the leadoff. We have too many "prototypical" leadoff hitters on our team to waste Weeks' natural talent to hit the ball. I can see Roenicke telling Sveum to teach Escobar and Cain how to slap hit the ball more to get on base. If they can be better situational hitters, this line-up is going to score A LOT of runs. Let the discussion begin.
  11. Thumperden...that statement was not directed to you. It was to defend to your position.
  12. This doesn't really make sense. What some fan's belief about what Melvin might be willing to do, with no evidence to support said belief, tells us all we need to know about Melvin's job status? I don't get it.This is a simple case of reading between the lines. One can infer that he was getting to the fact that Melvin has a lot of pressure on him this offseason to build a winning pitching rotation. It makes complete sense even though he didn't back up any of his information/statement. The need to act aloof and/or elitist was unnecessary.
  13. I've never understood this argument. How exactly would this help him, or the Brewers, win more games? Yes he will not be facing DH's but he also will not have one providing him with run support either. I can understand the argument in favor of AL pitchers coming to the NL and having better seasons, and the argument is mainly centered around the NL not having the DH. However, in the case of the Brewers, this arguement doesn't mean squat for one simple reason....Miller Park. Miller Park is a hitter friendly ball park. Always has, always will. Pavano coming to the NL will benefit him a bit, but playing a majority of his games at Miler Park won't. I don't want to compare Pavano to Suppan for skill set....but you gotta start asking yourselves why is it that every "good" pitcher that Melvin brings in (and the majority of posters here get somewhat excited about) fail in the long run. Is it that Mike Maddux stinks? Is it because Rick Peterson doesn't know how to manage a pitching rotation? You look at Maddux and what he did prior to the Crew and post Crew. He just took a Texas Ranger team who was a longtime pitching rotation nightmare and took them to the World Series. I would like to argue that you bring in Dave Duncun as the Brewers pitching coach and he would look like a minor league pitching coach in comparision to his days at St. Louis. Miller Park is Evil for pitchers! My point is that Pavano, while a decent option to assist our rotation will eventually fail like Soup, Looper, Davis, Sheets, Bush, etc...and it's all because of Miller Park.
  14. I'm still holding out hope for Texas to retain Lee and that the Greinke camp is right in that he would prefer to play for a smaller market.
  15. I'm requesting a Melvin Siting. It's been a weird hot stove season so far in that GM's are acting early. I wouldn't mind seeing Melvin start getting into the action seeing that he's been telling us all that he needs to make a lot of moves this offseason. If I were Boston, I'd prefer Adrian Gonzo as well. Cheaper and better defense. With that said, all I want for Christmas is for the Brewers to obtain Greinke. Time to get to work Melvin! Time to make the donuts.

  17. In relation to his defense, experience and bat...I'd love to have Lee in a Brewer uniform. He was always the only Cub that I had an ounce of respect for. The problem is do we want to spend money on Lee when we have players like Hart, McGehee or Gamel that can play 1b on the cheep? I like Correia and wouldn't mind him in our rotation. I know Melvin was looking at him last year but couldn't get the deal done with SD. Too bad too...could have used him this year.
  18. I'm listening to WSSP and the callers that are calling in are cracking me up. "This reminds me of the Ned Yost days...I don't like this at all. What is Melvin doing?" I can maybe see these answers towards someone who has at least managed a couple years in which we would/could see a track record, but Roenicke doesn't have track record yet. Let's all just chill out and watch the guy manage before we call him the second coming of Ned Yost. He comes from winning team...has NL in his blood and from the sounds of it, has a belief system of moving the runners over, small ball when possible, RISP, versus HR, HR, HR, HR, HR. I welcome a philosophy that of Roenicke's anyday! A combination of that attitude plus Sveum's influence in the dugout...it could be a return to a fun and relaxed clubhouse. Patience my young ones....
  19. Ron's clip comes around the 2 min 15 sec mark. A clip with Ron Roenicke as a player. This is when he had hair. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. If that's what it takes to get Greinke, I'll pass. Lawrie and Gamel are everday players that are going to produce above average numbers and Odirizzi is a young stud that we can wait patiently for another year and a half.
  21. Hart! He was the most consistent of any of the players. He had the most impact on the team by far!
  22. Hells Bells Yo! Let's finish this game out with a 598. Let's go Hoff!
  23. Just for fun, who do those players equivilate to for the Brewers?
