  1. Never walk the bases loaded. Even with a GB hitter vs a GB pitcher your odds of a DP are not good.
  2. I think it's probably a good point to not focus blame exclusively on Melvin when it comes to the expensive FA signings. I think you're spot-on in looking at Mark A. as well (if not even moreso). The Suppan deal and how it went down comes immediately to mind.
  3. I don't think picking up Wolf's option has anything to do with Greinke. I think he gets picked up unless he completely falls apart this year. I think we may offer Marcum a deal if we can't sign Greinke just so we have fewer holes to fill. I hope we sign Greinke even though I know the contract will be probably bad overall for the franchise.
  4. Hart is an option at #2. So is Lucroy. The CF doesn't have to bat #2.
  5. We realize that. We are just questioning his decision making and after last year this is just a continuation of that suspect decision making.
  6. Yes. As was pointed out there were other more effective moves available.
  7. Right. If we had gone into May without seeing something like this happen it isn't an issue, and may not be an issue now. It just comes right on the heels of this. I don't question putting Estrada in, only pulling Gamel out for a worse hitter and maybe a better defender, maybe. Even that I am ok with in a blowout. It was 3-1 at the time though. I know he had a problem with double switches last year. It follows a pattern of behavior towards Gamel by the organization and the manager's infatuation with a certain player last year.
  8. I would guess it is because it is very early in the year so the starters aren't quite totally stretched out yet and the Brewers don't have an off day for another 8 days. The bullpen is going to get used a lot in the next week, so if Estrada could give them two strong innings, great. He could have gone with Loe for an inning then Estrada for 2 after the lineup turned over. He didn't have to double switch.
  9. You didn't miss much. Just more reinforcement of the Cards holier than thou attitude. Playing the game the right way and such.
  10. or he could have gone with Loe for an inning and brought in Estrada after the lineup turned over.
  11. Maybe. If this had happened in mid-May it would be different. At this point it only reinforces fears about an undesirable pattern of behavior from last year.
  12. We should have known Gamel would be decent on defense. The real question, which still hasn't really been answered, is if he can scoop balls well at 1B.
  13. He could have brought Loe in earlier and brought Estrada in after the lineup changed over. We will see in the future if this was just a double switch or the beginning of the manager having an overfondness for Ishikawa. Loe can pitch before the 7th inning.
  14. It isn't necessarily a horrible or bad move. It is however troubling considering the organization's past treatment of Gamel and the manager's use of Kotsay last year along with his comment about Ishikawa being this year's Kotsay.
  15. Yea very odd to me as well. Maybe someone else can explain the thinking? This was one of the reasons that Ishikawa making the team was bad in the eyes of many people. It isn't a horrible move but I don't like it. Estrada better pitch more than one inning. Unless he is struggling of course.
  16. Playing matchups properly makes a reliever better. I don't think he identified what his releivers were capable of. That is the problem.
  17. Unfortunately he only used one when he should have used 2 many times. In my opinion he over managed the lineups and position players and under managed the bullpen.
  18. I have presented my sacrifice of assorted sausages and beef patties to the baseball gods. May their judgement on the Cardinals be terrible and swift.
  19. I have presented my sacrifice of assorted sausages and beef patties to the baseball gods. May their judgement on the Cardinals be terrible and swift.
  20. In other words once there was an overabundance of good relief pitchers and anybody could have managed it, he did well. I really don't have a problem with any of the playoffs starts by Marcum, not the decision to start him anyway except in hindsight.
  21. Gamel/Hart 2/5 depending on the handedness of the opposing starting pitcher makes way to much sense for the manager.
  22. Yes, tons of experience. It isn't like he has never played OF in the majors.
