  1. Give it a couple months and he'll get his deal. It might only be 5 or 6 years but there is no way in heck he is coming back to the Brewers on a 1 year arbitration deal. Of course he isn't coming back on an arbitration deal. It is past the date to accept arbitration.
  2. So you're telling me there's no hope?! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif Nope, none.
  3. Many reviewers prefer the original Kindle design over the Fire if the objective is to read ebooks That is because of the back-lit screen on the Fire. The E Ink display is much easier to read than a back-lit screen.
  4. Yes and you're still not getting it, a couple of draft slots means nothing. The Brewers have actually been more successful in the 1st round than the Rays.Wow, that is pretty condescending and dismissive. I get it, you think the Rays drafted better. Sure they did. The only real difference I see is that they were a little better at picking pitchers. Friedman also inherited a much better situation than Melvin did. The Rays were part way through their rebuild when he came along. I doubt it. He was just better at identifying pitchers. I believe you are setting your standards for what constitutes a good GM way to high. The Brewers got several good players in the later rounds. Feel free to ignore Hart, Gallardo, Lorenzo Cain, Lucroy, and Gamel though. The Rays advantage over the Brewers was more than just a couple slots. Overall picks 1999-2008 Brewers Rays 16 1 7 1 16 3 5 8 5 4 2 1 7 2 12 3 11 6 10 1
  5. We already had this discussion and you are well aware the Rays picked higher than the Brewers by several slots over the same time frame.
  6. Don't make it the first weekend in March. That is Hops N Props weekend. Or do make it that weekend, either way. East side Great Dane would be easier for out of towners to get to.
  7. Sure they drafted well. Look where they picked over that time frame. They had a 10 year run of picking in the top 5 of the draft almost every single year including several #1 overall picks.
  8. I concur, Skyrim is a huge time sink. I think I played at least 40 hours before I worked on the actual campaign part of it. I don't really know what the main campaign is supposed to be. There is a lot of stuff to do. Love the game.
  9. To late to accept arby.
  10. None of those guys you mentioned hit right handed. Morgan is even worse than Gomez against LHP. I wouldn't expect either of the other 2 to hit same handed pitching well enough to replace Gomez when you take defense into account. Any of those 3 guys are possible fill ins for Morgan though.
  11. So as not to further dilute the lineup thread, how do you think Gomez and Morgan should be used in CF? I think by the end of the season the manager had it right, other than the Kotsay in CF starts. They should go with a straight platoon. Every player has good and bad streaks over the course of the season. Gomez just happened to look good in the post season. There is little to indicate Gomez will improve with the bat. Things you wold look at to see a change in approach have remained pretty constant, BB rates, K-rates, O swing%, etc. He hit the ball a little harder but to a hit to his already poor OBP. If you go by straight UZR/150, Morgan and Gomez are dead even in CF with a career UZR/150 of 16.1. I don't think Morgan is as good as Gomez but the difference is not all that big. DRS has them at about 20 and 15 runs saved per 150 games in CF. Watching them the whole season, I would say that Gomez has a stronger arm and better range but not much better range.
  12. Gomez has had 4 years in the majors and looking at his plate discipline stats(contact rates, swing rates, BB% etc.) has shown virtually no improvement at in any year. Given his age it is possible he may improve. It is, however, highly unlikely. His defense is probably less than 10 runs a year better than Morgan(Morgan is a good defender in CF) so Morgan's ability to actually hit RHP outweighs Gomez' ability to play defense.
  13. The worst part is they had guys readily available on the team but still failed to use them.
  14. Maybe I'm not being clear enough. My point is that shortstop was upgraded in 2011 from 2010. I'm not comparing the two players stats from last year. Still not true. Escobar 2010 .235/.288/.326/.614(.270 wOBA) average fielding Yuni 2011 .252/.271/.381/.652(.278 wOBA) bad fielding He hit marginally better(his crappy OBP offsets most of his SLG) with much worse defense. Best case, it was a wash.
  15. Not a bad signing. I would prefer somebody who could hit RHP better as the backup though. If he can stay healthy he might be a better option to start than Gonzalez. Depends on how well Gonzalez hits. I will have to give it some more thought.
  16. I still say that Yuni was a clear upgrade over Escobar. .235/.288/.326/.614(.270 wOBA) average fielding .252/.271/.381/.652(.278 wOBA) bad fielding Not really much of an upgrade and actually a downgrade taking defense into account.
  17. That Gennett guy (Scooter) will never provide the power, HR or RBI that Rickie provides plus he is still 2-3 years away. The best you can hope for with Gennett is a higher BA. Not thick enough I guess.
  18. I've seen a lot of players come through the Brewers over the years and in my view, Betancourt isn't anywhere near the worst player (even regular player for that matter) that the team has had. I'm not sure that I would have given him two million though. I'm not going to argue that he's a good player, but he's not nearly as bad as some would have you believe- nor is David DeJesus as good. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle. This isn't 2004 where we just needed a guy to fill in and get through another losing season. This was 2011 where we were trying to compete for a playoff spot. In 2004 he would have been a minor annoyance.
  19. Weeks would be the one I would trade. He would be easy to replace. We have that Gennett guy to play 2B and Green could play 2B.
  20. That really isn't true. He had incidents in St. Louis and San Francisco(I think it was San Francisco) last year and we were constantly hearing how he talked nonstop to the point where they were keeping their distance at times. That doesn't mean he will wear out his welcome but I think it indicates things could go very differently if we are not doing as well as we did last year.
  21. How do his slash stats compare to the rest of Japanese baseball players. I know how good he would be if he was playing in MLB but what is a typical and good slash line for a Japanese player?
  22. Agree with that. I have stayed out of the thread since the first few pages. So much conflicting information. No way. Morgan is a plus defender. He isn't as good as Gomez but his offense is actually pretty good against RHP. Gomez just can't hit. If Morgan could hit LHP at all I would trade Gomez. I guess I missed the hate for Gomez. I thought it was prety much restricted to DPR and his bad decisions.
  23. Do the Brewers have some prospect coming up to be a utility infielder in the next couple years that we don't know about? It doesn't seem like a good idea to just limit yourself to a one year deal unless you do.
