  1. The best way to score runs is to string together hits or walks. Mixing in bad hitters throughout the lineup will result in fewer hits being strung together thus fewer runs. Having 3 guys in a row who cannot hit sucks but it is better than having them make rally killing out in the middle of good hitters.
  2. Does this mean you'll be happy if it's Kotsay #2? That would be "be careful what you wish for."
  3. Please no Gomez #2, please no Gomez #2, please no Gomez #2
  4. The Cubs are not good. I haven't been to a Cubs/Brewers game and had to contend with their fans much. I don't like the Cubs but hating a team that isn't good seems like a lot of effort.
  5. I am hoping that they are just doing it to mess with Sony. I have a PS3 account and I don't want my personal information out there.
  6. Anybody signed or traded to play 1B would have to outperform what Gamel would be expected to do. It doesn't look like Hafner has played in the field since 2007. No thanks.
  7. I don't think many if any players have received a salary cut in arbitration. Players are so drastically underpaid before they hit FA players even receive an increase after an off year. Look back at Hart. The only way they would receive a cut is if they were non-tendered.
  8. Yup, good 2 weeks.
  9. Well the Reds and Cards hate each other. I think the Cards players and coaches are way to touchy. I think we can safely say the Cards are poor losers.
  10. Agree on that. The only thing he really doesn't seem to do well is throw the ball. He moves around well and has a nice bat for a catcher. More power than I would expect this year. Really looking forward to what he can do this year.
  11. His salary can be cut to league minimum as long as he isn't offered arbitration by his own team.
  12. Maybe nobody wants to pitch to our #2 hitter because of the guys following him.
  13. I really don't have much problem with the Cubs right now. They kind of suck. I kind of know how Cubs fans felt a few years back when we were trying to build a rivalry with them. I am not really sure how the Cards are doing but they(meaning the team not the fans) have made statement after statement the makes me dislike them. Add in their hypocrite, insufferable jackass manager(and players) and I really don't like them. Oh yeah, the Reds. No problem with them at all. Hate losing to them though.
  14. I doubt I will bother with PS3 for a while. The hackers are mad at them and I am not hearing good things about their security even now.
  15. I think Kotsay may be a better PH than Boggs. Maybe, but there really isn't anything that backs that up other than he is older and more experienced players might be better at pinch hitting. If Kotsay is a better pinch hitter the difference is pretty minimal. I would rather have the more versatile player on the roster. One who can play defense. The real problem, as Casey pointed out, is that Ronald has pretty consistently made less than optimal decisions with the lineup. Mostly Kotsay(doing more than pinch hitting) and Gomez decisions(#2, still?). That is troubling by itself. He obviously thinks Boggs is a better defender than Kotsy because with both playing Boggs was in CF. That leads me to believe that he thinks Kotsay is a much better hitter than Boggs or that defense matters very little.
  16. What does Gomez have to do to convince Runnin' Ron he shouldn't hit 2nd?
  17. Kotsay hasn't played in more than 120 games since 2006 and 140 games since 2004. His best UZR/150 in a season since 2004(when he had a 4.6) is -8.5. At 1B we have Fielder. The only thing he does even moderately well at this point is hit RHP. Hart and Braun have hit RHP better than he has between 2008-2010. His only possible value is as a pinch hitter against RHP and Boggs might be a better option for that. Kotsay was a very good player but that time has long since passed.
  18. Mental instability? I really don't know. Kotsay really shouldn't even and wouldn't be on the roster if it was up to me. Boggs is probably a better option than Kotsay. I think Kotsay hurts us because there are better options. The fact that Boggs was in CF over Kotsay leads me to believe even Trip R thinks he is a better defender than Kotsay. He must think very little of Boggs as a hitter since Kotsay plays instead of Boggs so much. No idea what they see in Kotsay.
  19. A lot of these console games get released on PC. With Steam they are dirt cheap if you buy them a year later.
  20. (OBP/SLG/OPS). Hart vs RHP 2008-2010 .316/.465/.781 Kotsay vs RHP 2008-2010 .337/.419/.756. They are pretty equal with maybe a slight advantage to Hart. OBP being worth about 1.5-2 times as much as SLG. I think Hart has looked pretty good at the plate over the last week. The defense is what really seperates them. Hart isn't a good or even average defender but Kotsay is so bad he has been relegated to mostly being a DH the last few years. The only reason I can see to use Kotsay over Hart is they are babying Hart a bit.
  21. Ommegang makes a few good beers. The Abbey is one of my favorites. Hennepin is a really good one as well. I am not a fan of Three Philosophers but I have friends who like it. I think it is to fruity. Oooooooh, D-Man.
  22. I don't think anybody would advocate taking a good pitch just to take a pitch. If you get a good pitch you think you can hit, swing.
  23. If your hair is so long it grows like a bush out of your head and prevents your batting helmet from staying on your head, you need a haircut.
  24. His batting average is over.300 when he swings at the first pitch so I say swing away. His batting average is probably that high because he hits pitches he likes on the first pitch. That stat is like the "he doesn't hit well with 2 strikes" stats. Most hitters probably hit well on first pitches just like almost all hitters hit poorly with 2 strikes.
