  1. I am not sure about the total calculation but it relies heavily on strikeouts and walks. I believe it normalizes HR and BABIP. They are trying to separate out a pitcher from the defense behind him.
  2. No, if you have been posting in the Gamel thread myself and others have stated that we think Gamel will help defense at 1B and all the other infield spots.
  3. WAR is based off of FIP.
  4. I thought they got Tim Horton's donuts and some authentic poutine.
  5. I missed the play but that is 2 errors on Fielder if you guys are right. So 2 of 5(?) this year on Fielder but he doesn't get credit for any.
  6. I think Morgan makes that play in RF. He is an above average defender though. Of course he really probably shouldn't start against LHP. I just wish we didn't have 3 1B on our team. This must be bizarro Trip R the last couple nights. Another double switch.
  7. Maybe but if a pitcher walks a couple guys on a few pitches he is more likely to throw a "get me over" strike.
  8. I am sure if it was all singles it would be a pretty big stack.
  9. Darn it Weeks. Quit rounding the bases. How is Fielder supposed to get RBI's?
  10. We got cash last week.
  11. Let's call it 3a then. He hasn't been serviceable. His defense hasn't passed the eye test. Weeks was a 16.8 UZR/150 defender in the little time he played in 2009. Defensive metrics can be extremely misleading over small samples.
  12. You can't arbitrarily remove games and say they were better than so and so after that. If you are going to do that, you might as well remove the worst starts from all of the pitchers you are comparing, or better yet, go with their actual statistics with nothing removed. You can't arbitrarily remove them but I think it clearly illustrates one of the problems with ERA and just how much of an influence a manager can have on it. If it was obvious Wolf was struggling and was pulled his numbers would have looked a lot better. Getting left in just once a year to give up 5 more runs is a difference of 0.25 ERA over 180 innings.
  13. I think it goes back to the ridiculous decision to keep 6 outfielders and only 5 infielder on the roster.I would say we have 3 outfielders and 3 1B. I am not sure we should count Almonte or Kotsay as outfielders. They even have them listed as infielders on the website.
  14. Braun's ISO has gone down every year as well. I am not sure his improved plate dicipline is necessarily a good thing.
  15. We don't have an endless amount of money and we traded for a stud pitcher and had to go with Yuni at SS. Talent is supposed to dictate our payroll this year. That is what Mark A. said. We gutted our minor league system of top talent to improve ourselves to a point where we are on the verge of being a really good team then stopped. He has been fine so far and I cannot understand the hate for this guy already. He has been poor so far, he is a really bad player and has been for a few years now. I guess we are suppoed to have studs all over the field like the yankees. Completely false. All we are asking for is a guy who isn't the worst everyday player in the majors over the last 3 years. All I am trying to say is that we are not as bad as some like to think and I am not sure who they wanted to go out and get. Nobody is saying we are a bad or even average team. We are a team that is likely 1-2 wins short of being a solid playoff team. We made moves to improve every single position, even CF where we had a no-hit/good defense player, yet we ignored the one obvious black hole.
  16. Unfortunately he may be on his hot streak.
  17. Not me. They should have kept Dickerson and cut Kotsay. Great. Now we are the Titanic of baseball teams.
  18. Errors on routine plays are what get pitchers rattled and leads to big innings. Missing easy grounders also leads to big innings. I've been wondering about the effects of the shifts on the statistics / defense as well. They don't count plays with shifts in UZR.
  19. I think he looks like he is playing at half speed. Like you practice to get your technique down.
  20. Fielder cost Weeks an error this season already. The ball hit his glove and Weeks still got the error. Gamel might not only improve our defense at 1B but make the rest of the guys look better as well.
  21. McGehee won't improve because Hart returns. He will improve because he is a better hitter than his current .578 OPS. To the OP, look around the league. Not many lineups have 3 players as good as Weeks, Braun and Fielder. Things will also get better once Kotsay and Gomez start receiving less playing time. Not that our offense is bad right now.
