  1. $6 million dollars. That is a useful stat. $6 million dollars for a .809 OPS and great leadership? It could be argued that the money could have been better spent but we did make the playoffs and Cameron was a big part of that team. I think most here would be thrilled if Gomez posted an .809 OPS this seasonThe most telling stat in '08 for Cameron was his .507 postseason OPS (extremely small sample, though I'll note that his career postseason OPS is .581, with a career .174 batting average in 92 postseason at-bats) $6m is a steal for good defense and a .809 OPS in CF. You can safely ignore the rest. Postseason stats are about the same as taking a random series from the season. Means nothing. If you don't believe strikeouts and BA are not good for evaluating hitters by now, I don't know what else to say. They are not useful at all unless you are comparing 2 players who are otherwise very similar. Gomez so far and Cameron 2008 are not. We have drastically different ways of evaluating players and I think you are using very bad stats as the base for your evaluation.
  2. Strikeouts and batting average are terrible to use for evaluating MLB hitters. Please use better stats.
  3. If Mitre is the 6th starter he will probably get something like 20 starts over the year if he is healthy because of injuries to other pitchers. That said, what the hell Doug? What happened to this?
  4. CF - Cameron .243 142k vs Gomez (Slight Advantage 2008? If maybe only because of leadership? The suspension and horrible postseason play loom in my mind.) Huge, huge, huge advantage 2008. Not even close. The only possible way they could even come close to matching 2008 in CF is if Dickerson gets a lot of AB. That pitching staff in 2008 was also awesome. The individual parts look just ok but they were solid with a much better defense behind them. Edit: Nevermind. CF is gonna suck big time this year on offense.
  5. Did you mane pop-up because I don't think the guy has much if any power.
  6. They should at least have one game on most weekends. How often do the Bucks play back to back nights?
  7. Barry's never done anything detrimental to Wisconsin hockey or college hockey in general. Why has the coverage of hockey tanked so badly in recent years then? Minnesota still televises many games.
  8. and we still have Betancourt at SS. All this money spent on a redundant useless part like Kotsay when what we really needed was a better SS who would probably make a decent positive impact.
  9. Minnesota maybe but Alverez has wanted a Big Ten hockey league since BTN started. He said it would be a good third big sport to add to basketball and football.
  10. I have little hope BTN will show much hockey. They were showing women's volleyball last year instead of a hockey matchup of Big Ten teams playing hockey. Michigan and Michigan State came down to play the Badgers this year and no coverage. Over a decade ago before I had cable I saw more hockey games on tv just by watching tape delay on PBS.
  11. What the heck are you talking about? Nobody here has penciled him in the lineup anywhere this year. Them moving him down to AAA to work on 1B makes it more likely he will be our 1B next year. Before Kotsay was signed and Gamel was injured there were some people who thought he would get a bench spot. From some of Macha's quotes it sounded like Gamel was going to make the team last year in some capacity so it is very reasonable to think Gamel would make the team on the bench this year. Unless you are talking about back when we still thought Fielder would be traded. I don' think anybody thought Gamel would play ahead of any of Hart, Braun, Fielder or McGehee.
  12. Every game is on tv for people with BTN. I lost a year of football and basketball because of BTN. I used to get every single Badgers football game on tv before BTN. A few were on later on PBS but still on tv.
  13. My gut reaction is I hate it. I love the WCHA. I think the Big 10 has something to do with the poor hockey coverage we have been getting over the last few years. Just like coverage tanked for football and basketball when BTN started up. I used to be able to get games on PBS late at night at the very least. Even those have all but disappeared. If we get 90%+ tv coverage I will be happy though. I really think this benefits the CCHA teams more than the teams moving from the WCHA. I imagine there will be a trip to Colorado where we play CC one night and Denver the next and Minnesota plays the other team or those 2 teams coming over to play Minnesota and Wisconsin.
  14. If we could have sent Narveson down without exposing him to waivers I would agree that we should have kept Capuano. Given the circumstances, I would prefer to go with the younger cost controled guy. Even if both can pitch a full season, which is far from a given with Capuano, the difference in their expected performance is probably nil to none with Narveson having a better upside.
  15. I think it's safe to say that there is no way were the Brewers offering that much base I don't think you can say that at all.
  16. I would start with a hefeweisse. Those are not very bitter at all. Hacker Pschorrwould be a good one to start with. Dancing Man wheat is one of the best but it is a seasonal by New Glarus. If you like fruity try either Wisconsin Belgian Red or Raspberry Tart by New Glarus. Beer can be drastically different based on styles. Like TLB said everybody has different preferences. If you thought the light beers were bitter I would recommend staying away from anything that says IPA, including Ranger which was recommended.
  17. He is killing the ball, not just popping it up like usual but legitimately driving hard line drives. His strikeouts are low with only 4 so far in his 35 at bats. Sure I'd love to see him have more walks but can't complain when he is what I am assuming good pitches and driving the ball. If he walks once or twice to morrow he is right in the mix with the rest of the team (a few like Weeks, Wheeler, Boggs have five but most are sitting around 1-3). Edit: well I guess not all pitches are good after looking at Gobias Industries picture ha It's Spring training. He drove the baseball last year in Spring Training if I remember correctly. We all know he can hit a fastball. Let's wait and see how his approach looks when pitchers are actually trying to get him out instead of just working on things getting ready for the season. I wouldn't draw any conclusions from Spring Training. Pitchers are just getting their work in for the most part. Normally I would agree but he has shown no improvement whatsoever over the last 3 years.
  18. He has all the physical tools but has a complete lack of plate dicipline. He has shown nothing so far to indicate that has changed.
  19. Easily his best season. It was an empty .281 though as he only had a .309 OBP.
  20. This would also get rid of a hated scenerio of Fielder coming up in the first(or other innings) with one on and two outs and the pitcher pitching around him. You are right. It would come up with the hated scenario of Fielder coming up in the first innning with 2 outs and nobody on. They are going to pitch around Fielder.
  21. Well sure if you are talking about going outside the organization for a guy. If you don't' you arrange them however you get the best defense.
  22. Braun was a terrible infielder. He has bad baseball instincts. Putting him at a position where most of a player's value as a defender is based on reaction isn't a good idea in my opinion. I am not sure Hart would be much better. Gamel at 1B probably makes the most sense. He seems like he can field the ball really well. He just has trouble throwing. For the record I hate the "not a good enough hitter" argument when talking about which position a fielder should play in this case. Braun, Hart and Gamel are likely to all be in the lineup. You put them in the positions where our defense will be best.
  23. RRR has backed off some of his previous statements a bit. He doesn't want to be making outs with the top of the order.
  24. As long as we don't have a mass exodus like we did last year we should be a pretty solid team next year.
  25. Cameron at his playing level of 2-3 years ago would be a fantastic fit for our team right now. Cameron right now isn't a good fit.
