  1. I agree this injury may have huge repercussions. I was just telling some friends over the weekend how I thought the division may come down to who gets off to a better start. Advantage Reds.
  2. His speed is wasted in front of our good hitters. His speed would be best leveraged in the lower part of the order ahead of bad hitters where small ball makes sense.
  3. So we have you to thank for Greinke's broken rib then. I kid, I kid.
  4. I have no problem with his swinging for the fences. I have a huge problem with continually swinging at balls out of the zone. Bunting eliminates many positive outcomes. He also frequently pops up his bunt attempts, like he did yesterday.
  5. Because we have nothing else to talk about. The roster is pretty much set.
  6. Normally I would agree with keeping as many guys as possible but not this year. We are at a point where every single win is important. Dickerson platooned with Gomez would probably help add a win or two.
  7. I will believe it when I see it. He has had ample opportunity to change and as of yet has shown nothing to indicate he has changed. He tried to bunt yesterday.
  8. It's a great conundrum, but one where we're probably better off going with Gomez towards the bottom of the order. I don't think it's a big deal, though, because realistically he hits seventh at the lowest (catcher eighth and pitcher ninth). That means he gets about half a plate appearance per game more if he hits second. Of course, if we can find a way to get Gomez to take a few more walks and hit the ball on the ground more, his value increases as a No. 2 hitter, and it could make the offense more dangerous in the upper half of the order. So you want Gomez getting 90 more PA than Hart. You are basically saying you want Gomez to hit for Hart for an entire month.
  9. Boggs was sunk the day they signed Kotsay.
  10. I see the usual cracks about TB losing forever to get high draft picks, but how was that different than Milwaukee prior to 2006? I am not sure how comparing the Rays now to the Brewers at a time when the Brewers clearly had an incompetent GM somehow makes their way better than ours. The drafts from 1996-2005 were probably our stretch with the highest picks. TB was 1999-2008. We had picks of 8, 13, 13, 10, 11, 12, 7, 2, 5 and 5. TB was 1, 6, 6, 3, 2, 1, 4, 8, 3, 1 and 1. They averaged a pick 5 spots lower over that stretch. The "cracks" are because they did draft very, very high for a decade. You can keep talking about how the "do things the right way" and maybe they do but, we never reached their level of crapitude. Not one pick outside the top 10 and most in the top 5.
  11. My only problem is that DM has seemingly pushed us to 86ish wins and gutted the minors to put us just a little short of the playoffs then decided that was good enough. I think he made the team interesting and exciting but not really a playoff team.
  12. Sigh, nice call. I was doing some digging and apparently this show was canceled in December. What a bummer.
  13. I've been very critical of Melvin and have wanted him to follow the Tampa model You mean be really crappy for a decade so you get top ten and frequently top 3 picks in the draft ?
  14. Minus the inexplicable Kotsay signing the offseason has been very good. I like the Marcum/Lawrie trade a lot better now that Weeks is extended.
  15. Why waste time defending Kotsay? Better yet why continue wasting time with bad statistics like BA?
  16. Has anybody played DA:O Awakenings? Pretty good sized expansion. I preordered the DA2 signature edition a couple months back when they were offering it for the price of the regular edition. I played the DA2 demo. Seems like the game is going to be very good. The mage seems pretty powerful again.
  17. I have no problem with Kotsay, we have been very good at bring old veterans and having them produce. Of course but in most cases the guys brought in had recent success or some signs they might have success. Not so with Kotsay.
  18. If DA2 is anywhere near as good as DA:O my life will be consumed for a couple months by it.
  19. Bottom line though is it didn't have much bearing on future negotiations.
  20. Getting buried by Macha when he did put him in prospect purgatory. There hasn't been a corner opening since 2009 and there won't be this year baring injury.
  21. I never thought it was a big deal if a player is just renewed. Gallardo, Hart and Fielder were all renewed at some point and that didn't change anything.
  22. Defense? Track record?I like Briggs criteria. By his criteria I deserve a long term contract.
  23. RBI's are not a fluke. They do however tell you more about the players hitting ahead of a player than anything about the player with RBI's. I don't see any downside. The downside, as others have clearly and repeatedly pointed out, is that the contract you are describing could very easily be more than he would get in arbitration and best case scenario only gives the Brewers minimal savings. No sense taking on injury risk for a couple million a year. McGehee's 2010 wasn't all that special. It was solid but nothing that will drive up his price much. Not being tied to a contract but having control of a player also make him desirable and tradeable.
  24. 3 years/$10m is probably more than he will earn in the next 3 years. He is league minimum this year or at most $500,000. Something like $2m next year maybe and $5m tops the next year. He isn't that special of a player. By the time he hits free agency he will be in his decline years. A multi year deal seems pretty pointless in my opinion.
