  1. Well Weeks is batting leadoff and the pitcher might bat 8th.
  2. First time in weeks I have sat down to watch the hockey team and we are housed by the goofers.
  3. You can spend about 4 hours a week on football and easily know quite a bit and see all the games for your home team. 4 hours a week would barely be considered a baseball fan.
  4. The main reasons there is apparent parity in the NFL is the short season, national instead of regional TV contracts and drafted players have a more immediate impact.
  5. With Macha there were more negative comments and history. There isn't that negative history with RRR and Gamel right now.
  6. Not only that but he plays average defense.
  7. I found the Pujols stuff this week annoying. Not least of which were LaRussa's toolish comments. Of course I just reread Phillips comments and that cheered me back up.
  8. A couple more Weeks threads. Is this Weeks breakout year? Who will have a breakout year in 2008 for the Brewers?
  9. Really? Last years numbers: 112 Rs (previous high 89) 32 2Bs (previous high 22) 29 HRs 83 RBIs (almost doubling his previous highs of 16 HRs in 2007 and 46 RBIs in 2008) .269 AVG (from 2005-2008 he hit .239, .279, .235, .234) Rickie's OBP was in line with what he always has done but his SLG went up, as well as OPS. Maybe you attribute that all to being healthy all season for the first time, but I would say that other than the beginning of the 2009 season until he got hurt, we never saw Rickie play at such a high level. Yes, I would directly attribute higher counting stats to being healthy. Let's ignore for a minute how bad batting average and counting stats are for judging player talent. Let's then extrapolate Weeks' 2007 season out to the 756 PA he had in 2010. We come up with 129 runs, 31 doubles, and 24 home runs. He had a .365 wOBA in 2007 and a .368 wOBA in 2010. He had a few more hits fall in so his SLG went up. His ISO was lower than in 2009 and almost identical to 2007. I don't believe 2010 was a breakout year at all. He was healthy and had a small increase in HR.
  10. Is what Weeks did in 2010 really a breakout? He didn't hit much better than his career numbers.
  11. So pretty much like Kotsay.
  12. That would be grounds for immediate dismissal.
  13. Seems like a pretty standard GM statement to me. I think we probably heard something similar when Mauer, Sheets, Braun, Gallardo and Hart signed extensions. Pretty mush most players that resigned with their teams before free agency. I think TH and many other people have Fielder on the brain.
  14. That is wrong. It is Weeks + Gamel(average or better 1B) + approx. $14m > Fielder + an average 2B Weeks is nothing like Hall. Weeks has had success hitting at every level he played. He was a good hitter at the major league level. The only problem was he couldn't stay healthy. Hall pretty much had 2 good years and that's it.
  15. Too bad this is Pojols deadline day. Just got done watching a straight hour of ESPN Pujols coverage. Then I turned the channel because they were still on Pujols.
  16. March 7th is the first televised game I believe. Beautiful weather today. I want to stay home and have a couple beers.
  17. Things are sounding much better this morning.
  18. Weeks has hit pretty well his whole career. The only knock on him is injuries.
  19. Shocking since he was so healthy for us all of last year.
  20. We went to the Vintage Brewing Company again on Sunday. We will not be going back. Only because they didn't have a good dark beer. Their Oatmeal stout was to thin for my wife's taste. It tasted good but was thin. We had Palindrome APA, Woodshed IPA, Trepidation(triple), Rochambeau(well hopped Belgiam pale ale), Scardey Cat(oatmeal stout) and Freestyle(a dark ale of some sort). The only one that didn't taste good was the Freestyle and that wasn't horrible. The rest were all very good. I actually like it better than the Great Dane. Of course I have to bow to the wife's choice.
  21. I pick Marcum as the disappointment. Expectations are high since he moved leagues but I can see him taking a big step back. Lucroy will be the breakout player. Basically we don't have any players who haven't already had a really good year besides Lucroy, Betancourt, and Gomez. Betancourt is what he is. Gomez has had plenty of at bats to show something and I guess he has. Of course that something has been poor plate discipline.
  22. All a salary cap would do is take money out of the players' pockets and put it in the owners'. I have no problem with some teams having a spending advantage, I would prefer to cut that advantage to $50m or less. If something like 80% of all income was shared then the Brewers could keep a player or two through their whole careers while teams like the Yankees could keep 2-3 more.
  23. Anybody hitting behind Braun, Fielder and McGehee is going to be an RBI guy.
  24. It may have changed but I believe the Brewers are one of the more generous teams with prearby guys.
  25. I don't think a salary cap is needed or desirable. I think the issue is revenue sharing. A cap isn't going to bring in any more money. All it will do is put more money in the big city owner's pockets.
