  1. The only way we would be that many games back is if we have a few injuries. I think the most likely scenario in 2012(not 2011 as previously posted) is we are a mid 80's win team with little chance to make the playoffs but to good to be trading guys away.
  2. Is it wrong that when I heard homeless and radio that my first thought was Joe Dirt?
  3. I think the whole Betancourt dilemma will be settled well before opening day, and all this worrying about how he'll singlehandedly derail the 2011 season is nothing more than having little to nothing else to worry about before pitchers and catchers report. Hyperbole. Nobody ever said Betancourt would derail the season. All anybody has ever said was that he is the obvious weak link and could be replaced to gain a win or two pretty easily and at this point a win or two dramatically improves our playoff chances. We should go over budget, within reason, to improve the SS position.
  4. What I find funny is Escobar is in the majority of these bad stats Except the defensive ones. Escobar could at least play defense. Betancourt has no redeeming qualities as a baseball player except when he is lucky enough to make contact he sometimes hits the ball hard. Maybe he is a nice guy though.
  5. I would love to see Weeks extended at 5/$60m as long as it wasn't backloaded to much.
  6. Defense and position make a big difference. Even with a bad year Sizemore was 22 WAR over that time while Braun was 16.5 WAR. At his peak so far Braun has had a 4.9 WAR. Sizemore a 7.3 WAR.
  7. I believe logan is working under that assumption, but there should be a chance for the Brewers to re-sign Weeks. The two sides are still talking according to what some have posted here.I am working under the assumption that Weeks will not sign an extension. I think he still might and hope he does but until we find out something more encouraging than "both sides are still talking" I think we have to assume he is gone after 2011. Even if he stays, Fielder leaving is going to be a couple game hit to our team which would drop us into the mid 80's for wins. A fun team but not real playoff contenders.
  8. I am not sure if Cruz would count as a bat. He is not a good hitter at all.
  9. That's cool. We are just busting your chops a bit. It is very unfortunate, for Cubs fans, that the organization is so poorly run. They have invested poorly in players and now are stuck for a couple years. I am not sure why Hendry is still employed.
  10. For a team that has gutted it's minor league system and will be losing 2 of it's best hitters after 2011 it would be a really really bad idea to not spend extra money to upgrade a position where we can easily improve by a couple wins. We don't need to see Betancourt play to make a determination on him. He can't hit or field. We have several years of data. He is basically like watching Gomez hit without the good fielding.
  11. When you have a player that is obviously bad and you can get a couple extra wins you can't afford not to replace him. We really are at a point where one or two marginal wins are HUGE. If this was last year when we were a low 80 win team, let him play. If he was a young SS with possible upside, let him play. 29 isn't old but at this point he is what he is, a really crappy SS who can't hit or play defense. He is the worst defender on team of bad defenders.
  12. None of those definitions really apply here. Relishing would have been a better word. Such as Possibly maybe how about
  13. Most have upside of below average MLB players. If a couple guys have good years things could change but as of right now we have virtually no impact talent in the minors. A couple good drafts could change things pretty quickly but anybody drafted in 2011 is unlikely to be ready before 2013 at the very earliest. That is the Braun route so 2014-2015 is more likely. That leaves us with a couple lean years in 2013-2014. Possibly 2012. A lot depends on some extensions of current players. I think Fielder is gone but Weeks, Marcum and Greinke(remote possibility) could possibly be extended. That would lessen our down years a bit.
  14. I thought it was #3 comes up with 2 out the most often.
  15. Probably just sign a one year deal then we will hear about an extension sometime during Spring Training.
  16. Probably $2m this year and $2m next year.
  17. anyone who thinks full time parenting isn't a job is delusional. Depends on the age of the kids.
  18. I think he is also a victim of timing. He is a corner guy and we have had all our corner spots locked up for the last couple years when he was ready.
  19. He needs a chance to prove he is a MLB player.
  20. 3 wins would be a drastic increase in our playoff odds. To the point where I might consider us the favorites to win the division instead of merely contenders.
  21. Boom blox is old but very fun.
  22. Has Houston ignored their farm system or is it more a result of trading away guys thinking they can make a big run to get into the playoffs almost every single year?
  23. Gamel could probably fill in at any of the corner positions. LF, RF, 3B and 1B. He could probably come in at 3B or RF and we would probably notice little if any drop-off. Pitching we have guys but they are a big step down from Gallardo, Greinke and Marcum. Probably a step down from Wolf as well. I think we have bullpen guys. SS, well the starter current is teh suk. Not much of a step down from him. We are probably ok in CF with Dickerson and Gomez unless both get hurt. 2B is where I think we would feel the biggest impact outside of our best 3 starters.(and of course Braun and Fielder)
  24. We know Betancourt sucks at SS but he is still probably a better hitter than Cruz. Cruz is supposedly a really good defender but Escobar was supposed to be really good too. I am a little skeptical of minor league defensive scouting. However our SS situation gets handled with the current group of players it will probably be ugly.
