    Getting rid of Edmonds is one good way to make this season less disappointing.

    My guess is that Covey will probably be signed around Wednesday this week. It doesn't sound like they have made much of an attempt to even negotiate at this point. All indications are that the commissioner's office wants teams to wait to signing guys for over slot value until close to the deadline. This has been true of past drafts as well I believe.

    Depends how much Bush wants and what we get back in trade this offseason. I don't want Bush for $6m a year. However, we do have a gap year next year before most of our MiLB pitching will be ready. We have Parra, Gallardo, Wolf and possibly Capuano next year. That leaves quite a few SP spots to fill(need about 7 SP for the year) since I believe Parra and Capuano to be question marks.

    If Mat Gamel struggled I doubt people would treat him like this Many people were unhappy with a league average batting line out of Gamel last year. They would flip out if he couldn't keep his OBP above .300. I hope Cain gets most of the starts in CF from here out. Leave Gomez on the DL until September. I have a hard time completely giving up on Gomez on this point but I don't want him on the team either. Send him to AAA.

    I would like that as well. In addition I would like to see Parra finish the year strong and also Arnett not completely suck the rest of the year like he has so far.

    6 hours to make my first batch. I think I can easily cut it down to 4 and probably closer to 3 though. We are buying a wort chiller(does anybody actually pronounce it wert) should cut out quite a bit of time. Not messing around with a LP tank that had a bad seal(don't worry, I didn't use it) should cut an hour out. Not wasting time trying to get the stove to boil 4 gallons of wort should easily cut out another half hour. We are already planning our 2nd beer. I think I made a few mistakes. Nothing that will ruin the beer though. Added the first hop addition 5 minutes before the wort was boiling and turned off the burner just after the 2nd addition of hops instead of boiling for 2 more minutes. I think we did ok on our sanitization though. My biggest problem so far is coming up with boxes to store bottles. Everything we buy is in 6-paks.

    Very poor defensively seems a bit of an exaggeration. Considering their only plus defender(or even above average defender) is their part time CF, I don't think poor defensively is a strong enough statement.

    Yeah I kind of figured you did but I just wanted to point out some positives. I am not really to familiar with Schelling either but he was filling in for McCalvy from late June until recently and seems to be kind of splitting time with McCalvy recently.

    If I miss a game, I'll quickly look at the score and pitching/hitting performances but will try to find a beat writer recap. I can't be bothered to read through threads when I want an immediate, short game summary with manager and player quotes. I do not want bias or bad writing. Maybe my expectations are high because I follow another team that has better coverage, but I just think it royally stinks for fans, especially new ones, to not have at least average reporting of their team. We do have good reporting though. Adam McCalvy and Jordan Schelling. I am giving Jordan the benefit of the doubt but he seems ok so far.

    Kind of unimpressive. If he was really a good pitcher he would have had a no-hitter today. I think he still needs more at bats in AAA.

    I have always had good experiences with my E-mails to TH. I have on several occasions E-mailed him with questions and he always gets back to me on the same next day. He doesn't always give me the right answer but he always answers.

    However, how many GMs have been able to take their teams (esp. mid-/smaller markets) to the 'next level'? Sort of a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts maybe. Guys don't hold onto their jobs long enough to get to the next level in many cases. At this point, I think I'd like to see what the team's more recently-acquired arms (guys like Odorizzi, Peralta, Heckathorn, Rivas, Jeffress, etc.) can do before I'm ready to drop the hammer on Melvin. That's where I am. I don't hate or even dislike Melvin. I think we will need about 2 more years to really get a good feel of how the minor league pitching is doing. At least one of those guys should reach the majors and most will be in AA or higher and we will have a pretty good idea where they sit.

    Sounds like a good plan to me. Kind of thought they would do this at some point.

    AW isn't unbiased. He is biased in a different way. He doesn't seem to like the team.

    I am sure part of Melvin's directive when he took over was to make the team more attractive to potential buyers. Cutting an area that wasn't helping and even best case scenario would probably only bring in a handful of players over a decade seems like the right choice to me.

    Yet just like with Carlos Gomez you'll tell me that a partial season of UZR is useless and that Rasmus is playing great defense as always and that I know nothing about UZR right? Carlos Gomez has a career UZR/150 of 13.5 over about 2660 innings in CF. Colby Rasmus has a career UZR/150 of 4.6 over about 1720 in CF. I would say Rasmus is about average and Gomez is above average.

    Well it's justified because he never plays the young call-ups...just look what he did with Lucroy, oh wait... Lucroy sat the bench until Kottaras stunk things up for a while.

    I actually think Seid has done a better job in just a couple drafts giving us legitimate prospects - Odorizzi, Heckathorn. Odorizzi was drafted by Jack Z. 2008 was when we saw a big shift in drafting philosophy. That was Jack Z's last year with us.

    I honestly think Hart was out at the plate. The first part of his body that touched the plate was the leg folded under him. His straight leg was up in the air over the plate when he was tagged on the hip. I replayed it several times. I really hated the replacing of Cain with Edmonds but I think it was the right call. I just really don't like Edmonds.
