  1. It would be if Gomez has a good spring and we have to watch him hit for a month+ again next year like he has this year.
  2. We are not playoff contenders next year nor are we close. I think that would be a HUGE overpay for us. We are not playoff contenders next year nor are we close. Adding a guy like Fielder in 2011 makes zero sense for the Brewers unless we are giving up players who are gone after 2011. Even Weeks we would be much, much better off trading to address our rotation instead of bringing in another bat. We need to focus on players who will help us in 2012 and beyond. If they can help us ni 2011, great but they better be more than a one year wonder.
  3. I use electric but have a hard time justifying spending $40-50 on new blades when I can buy a whole new razor for around $30.
  4. Anyone want to play? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gifSure I guess. I would give up Todd Coffey for Fielder, maybe. I would also throw in Hoffman, Zaun, and Marco Estrada. I might also throw in Carlos Gomez but probably not. I would rather send Gomez to AAA next year than trade him for Fielder.
  5. They don't want the coupons to be used.
  6. However, I am starting to think that defense is the #1 problem with this team, not pitching. Possibly but pitching is going to be much easier to improve than our defense. I don't see more than 3 position players changing between this year and next. I think that would be an extreme case. Cain, Braun, Escobar, Lucroy are locks along with Hart at either RF or 1B. Weeks and McGehee are almost certain locks as well in my opinion. Fielder is almost a lock to be traded. I think we are much closer to average than the statistics show.
  7. Most of the players Weeks came up with have left or are leaving shortly.
  8. I wouldn't trade for him. Fielder really has little value to us as our problem isn't offense but pitching and defense. Neither of which Fielder helps. For a team with a middling offense and close to a playoff contender he could be the difference between making and missing the playoffs.
  9. The numbers look similar but his minor league career looks pretty injury plagued. He also looked old for each level he was at. I don't think one good minor league season is enough for a guy to get a chance at the majors unless he gets picked up by another team in the Rule 5 draft.
  10. I would imagine the Brewers get money for doing coupon giveaways. It would be nice if they were for something I would actually use though.
  11. Bill just said they wanted Gamel up to experience the big leagues. I hope it is just another one of those dumb things he says cause Gamel has had plenty of big league experience.
  12. Lucroy probably should be in AAA because he does still have some learning to do at the catchign position. He was probably going to be the opening day catcher in 2011 for us so it really isn't a big deal. It won't effect his service time much unless they were planning on leaving him down for a couple months next year.
  13. Well I opened a beer last weekend because I couldn't resist. It was a little under carbonated which wasn't much of a surprise. It was still pretty good and drinkable. I think it was a good idea since now that my wife has tasted the homebrew she is much more interested. We started a dunkel weisse today. We got down to 4 hours cleanup and everything. Would have been less time but we had to contend with the wind during the boil. Once things boiled though it all went smooth. We also ordered a trappist we plan on doing in 2-3 weeks to have ready for the Super Bowl. Might be a little ambitious so soon but I think we should ok. Forgot to add that I picked up some Bar Keepers Friend since the first time I brewed. I couldn't get my boil pot clean even with 20 minutes of scrubbing. Got the pot wet then put a little of this stuff on the stain, went to pick up my cloth and was able to wipe off the stain. Less than a minute. I had the pot clean in less than 5 minutes after this brew day and we even had a mess on the side from spillover. I would have only taken a minute to clean just the inside. Best $1.30 I ever spent and it should last for quite a while.
  14. I think the second part of your dream is more realistic.
  15. Yeah -- very frustrating. I was just coming here to post this quote again, followed by the PAs of Gomez v. those of Gamel: "We don't like calling up players unless they're going to play"[/i] I just wish the franchise didn't have a kooky double-standard about Gamel, and that they'd recognize that even if you don't necessarily like someone, it doesn't mean he can't do his job well & help you do your job better. But what do I know. Let's go out and sign some more aging, average free agents. They're grittier.http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/banghead.gif Unbelievable. I know that you should play the left vs right matchup most of the time but Gomez is just so bad that things like that go out the window. I know somebody said that Macha never does things that don't make sense but they were wrong.
  16. If you are injured I believe they project your value over the whole year when figuring FA compensation.
  17. Maybe Katin improved this year and maybe it is an outlier. His OBP before this year is not good to say the least. This year could be nothing more than an older guy repeating the same level for a third year in a row. No one is saying Katin is a budding superstar, but he is far more qualified for a big league job than a guy like Carlos Gomez. Not exactly a ringing endorsement there. Katin probably wouldn't be horrible if used in a platoon with Dickerson. On the other hand, it's one good year. I would be a little nervous if they used him as much more than the small half of a platoon.
  18. Well at least he didn't go whining to his teammates to retaliate and risk suspension for him. Kind of dumb to start a fight but I still think it is much better than beaning one of their guys.
  19. Dickerson's career splits vs RHP are .283/.372/.437/.808. Add good defense and you have the big half of a pretty nice platoon. Power kind of stinks but that is a pretty nice OBP.
  20. No kidding. So with so many of our guys getting the day off, Weeks plays yet another game.
  21. Perhaps what Macha is more about is 'Are you giving me results right now?', as opposed to, 'Those darn kids!'. That's fine as a managerial philosophy when the goal is to "Just win, baby!", but the Brewers are almost always going to need to be winning as many games as possible while still allowing young players to develop. He picked the guy giving him the better results not necessarily the guy who would give him the better results. Nitpicking a bit I know and maybe to fine of a distinction.
  22. The second post has the Wall Street Journal as it's source. $25m in 2005. I know you disagree but I see no reason to believe the Brewers are not receiving significant revenue sharing.
  23. If you take the time to look around the internet you will find article after article putting us over $25m in revenue sharing received just a few years back. Feel free to ignore my previous post but I think you would be flat out wrong. Our payroll would be in the $40-50m range without revenue sharing and we would be even less competitive. The last year that revenue sharing was released we got $25m. Are you trying to say that has gone down over the years? We are still in the smallest MLB market and our TV contract still stinks.
  24. Wow. I don't get to worked up over bad spelling, bad grammar or even overstated opinion, but when they start throwing out incorrect facts then it becomes a problem. How lazy do you have to be not to check how many games the Brewers have won in the series? This is your job. I think that is the whole problem. If it was only an occasional misspelling, incorrect fact or grammatical error I don't think it would be a problem. The problem is that it happens on a weekly if not daily basis.
