  1. In June and July they have a .520 winning % which projects to 85 wins with their current roster. Which is a little better than projected to start the season but would have fallen within normal variance. Just a couple of moves (Cain over Gomez in CF, one starting pitcher acquired) and improvement by Escobar offensively and defensively and 90 wins next year is very possible. Possible but not probable. Those improvements probably put us around an 86 win projection and that may be a little high. Just a guess that we would be in the 80-90 win range.
  2. So the Astros trade 2 good players and pay them for a few crappy prospect. I like the last line on the Ed Wade Wiki page. I wish all the NL Central teams had a GM like Ed Wade.
  3. What I don't like is that this is the second year in a row where we I've been calling for us to trade off some players to help our franchise for the future, and nothing has been done (last year we actually did the opposite). Considering the players moved and the deals made, maybe his not making moves is in the best interest of the franchise. I really don't want to hold onto Fielder or Hart and hope for picks but it isn't like the guys moved around are all that great.
  4. At the very minimum 2015-2016. 2012 drafted. 2013 A or A+ ball. 2014 AA. 2015 AAA. That is a pretty quick passage through the minors. That is the track Lawire is on right now.
  5. New Glarus makes some of their seasonal fruit beers (like the Cherry or Raspberry) that i think actually taste somewhat similar. Those are not seasonal. As far as beer, I think Miller Lite, Bud Light, Spotted Cow and Honey Weisse would be pretty typical on tap. In addition I would expect MGD, MDG light and probably Coors light in bottles. That would be the bare minimum. You could probably add 2-3 Leinies in bottles and, since we are in Wisconsin, a selection of New Glarus products and Capitol Brewery products. There are so many decent breweries in Wisconsin but I think Capitol and New Glarus are 2 of the more well known ones. You could probably add 3-4 different styles from a local smaller brewery, Lakefront in the Milwaukee area or Pearl Street brewery in the LaCrosse area for example.
  6. I am giving the New Glarus bottles a big thumbs up on the ease of label removal. Had the bottle s soaking in an Easy Clean solution and they are free of labels and glue while the other bottles still have their labels and glue.
  7. As I said earlier, if Melvin had actively shopped Fielder and Hart as opposed to waiting to see who called with offers, I think he could have found a deal worth making. You have not proof that is true. That sounds more like an assumption based on dislike of Melvin because it would make your argument that he is a bad GM stronger.
  8. I'm sure that a significant part of the reasons the return for Oswalt and Haren were so low was because of how much money they had remaining on their contracts. The Astros paid half of Oswalt's remaining contract. If Haren pitches halfway decent his remaining contract isn't to bad. 09:$7.5M, 10:$8.25M, 11:$12.75M, 12:$12.75M, 13:$15.5M club option ($3.5M buyout)
  9. More importantly, it creates a hole at 3B for the Marlins. And wouldn't the Marlins like to have a decent ML 3B who is cheap and under control for a few years. Wes Helms
  10. why I don't even think he talked with anyone other than the Brewers this offseason. Could also be because he signed his current contract the day after the season was over and we paid him like an elite closer.
  11. I don't think Weeks is likely to get more than $8M a year. 2B don't get paid much. We really don't need to free up money to sign him.
  12. On the other hand there are still people who think JJ Hardy is not one of the best defensive SS in the league.
  13. Well let's not overstate it. He's no Ty Wiggington. He's in a bunch of bad fielding 1B from Texeria to Konerko. He is in the group with Glaus, Howard and Cabrera sanwiched between Teixeira and Konerko. One of the worst fielders in the league. Outside of last year he has been pretty consistently bad in UZR and . I am not overstating it. I didn't say the worst.
  14. So for your argument you pick out 2 of the worst fielding stats or are you arguing those are bad stats. UZR/150 and Dewan's have him as one of the worst fielders in the league.
  15. A guy can also pass through waivers at which time you can trade him to anybody.
  16. Forgot about that. PTBNL for top prospects
  17. At least enough to mention you'll feel bad to leave them behind. Even if you don't mean it. That's true. Almost every other player who leaves does. I never believe them but at least they say they want to stay in Milwaukee. Even Hart has. I don't begrudge Fielder going to free agency. He earned it. I am not really upset that he wants to play for a winner. Every player does.
  18. bottom line, Doug Melvin completely whiffed on Dan Haren. Absolutely no excuse for us not aquiring Dan and his extremely team friendly contract. Other than Haren not wanting to come here of course.
  19. Couldn't DL Hart. Can't trade players on the DL.
  20. Hart got hurt during this period, making him virtually untradeable. That is opinion as well.
  21. Well, has the direction changed again after last night's debacle? Now we are waiting to see how the weekend series goes.
  22. I have never been to a bar that didn't have Captain Morgan spiced rum and Korbel Brandy. I know they are not fantastic but they are staples.
  23. I am looking towards 2012 when we have some minor league talent ready. Gamel, Cain, Lawrie and Odorizzi(maybe, depends where he goes next year) in particular all should be up by then. Add those guys to Gallardo, Braun, Escobar, McGehee and Lucroy. Extend Weeks and you have a pretty good base for a team. Hart and Fielder are likely to be gone by then so if we can get 2 or more decent players we are "rebuilt" by 2012 only really losing out on 2011.
  24. Nobody wants to trade Fielder and Hart just to trade them. It has been explained several times that in the offseason teams are more willing to trade MLB talent than they are at the deadline. A team trading for Fielder and Hart right now isn't going to want to weaken themselves. This means you can get more teams in on the deal and can drive up the price.
  25. How the crap is Escobar a better choice against a RHP than Inglett?
