  1. It doesn't seem like a green light if they are told not to run much.
  2. and Doug Eddings makes Sports Center again with an ejection of Manny Ramirez. Link I always dread seeing Eddings. Seems like he ejects a lot of guys. Has an inconsistent strike zone to boot.
  3. I am not sure about the players and Macha being on the same page, but I get the feeling Macha is a little to hands on with his managing. For example, the run game seems off this year. I know Weeks being out hurts us, but even while he was playing, we were not running much. It seems like Macha picks the spots when players run instead of giving certain players the green light to run when they feel they can. He uses IBB quite a bit to set up matchups he thinks are favorable, including walking the bases loaded in some cases. How walking the bases loaded ever puts a pitcher in a better position, I don't know. Having his pitchers bunt a lot. It seems like Macha is trying to control and make things happen instead of letting the players play. Of course I thought the players didn't didn't get enough rest throughout the season and the bench didn't get enough work.
  4. Cecil Cooper has had at least one full size one(2006) and a mini(2007).
  5. Probably not. Macha will probably throw him out there for 120+ pitches because Gallardo had so much time off.
  6. I ran across this while looking around the INCH website. The Frozen Four will be held at Ford Field in Detroit apparently. Link

I was wondering how much a player had to do to change their batting line so I made up this imaginary batting line. H 2B 3B HR BB K AB PA 165 45 2 35 100 75 550 650 I comes up to a line of BA/OBP/SLG/OPS/BABIP .300/.408/.580/.988/.295 Assuming 6 months in the season and 4 weeks minus one hit a month .289/.398/.569/.968/.282 minus one hit every other week .278/.389/.558/.947/.268 minus one hit a week .256/.371/.536/.907/.241 switching one walk a month to a hit .308/.408/.585/.992/.305 one walk every other week to a hit .315/.408/.589/.997/.314 one walk to a hit every week .329/.408/.589/1.005/.332 What's this have to do with anything you ask. Not much really. I was just interested to see how the stats all interact. I wanted to see what a player would have to do to increase their OPS.
  8. Fielder's splits on June 22nd. vs RHP .295/.435/.578/1.013 vs LHP .308/.400/.615/1.015 since then vs RHP .319/.430/.593/1.018 vs LHP .234/.306/.547/.852 bring his current splits to vs RHP .307/.432/.586/1.018 vs LHP .275/.358/.585/.943 Hardy has proven that players don't always hit to their career norms every year. I think it shows pretty nicely that early in the season stats shouldn't be ignored, but they shouldn't be given much weight when there is a larger sample.
  9. I really wish that we would stop issuing intentional walks.
  10. My wife and I will have to look into that tour. We were already talking about going back down to New Glarus again at some point. We had the Old English Porter. Not good. Had a very sour aftertaste to it. Again, it is exactly as they described it. Edit: Sounds like the next New Glarus R&D series beer is going to be a Lambic. It is currently aging in oak barrels and should be ready around the end of the year. Dan Carey did an interview with TheFullPint.com.
  11. The run game for us has been pretty bad all around. We either don't run much, but when we do, we are not very successful.
  12. Gallardo is missing his spots pretty badly.
  13. I believe he is not yet eligible for free agency.
  14. Thanks guys. I used to go to the Wisconsin State Journal website for coverage. Now I have these sites bookmarked. Hopefully we get better TV coverage this year than last. It sucks watching a UW-UM game and having to listen to Minnesota broadcasters. I am not hopeful. http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/INCH.htm http://www.uscho.com/ http://www.wcha.com/
  15. I think if they trade Escobar it would be because they sign Hardy to a 3 year deal or something like that. Giving Hardy a contract like that would mend some fences I think.
  16. We need to add competent #6-#8 pitchers for next year(provided Looper is back). Other than that, our pitching should be good. If we can improve, all the better.
  17. So where do we go for hockey news? I was over at Madison.com and clicked on the hockey link. It pulls up the football schedule and football leaders.
  18. What year was that? He made is major league debut in 2007 and he had not pitched in A+ ball that year and he started 2006 in A+. He went from starting a season in A+ one year to the majors by the end of the next season.
  19. wOBA on Fangraphs includes SB and CS.
  20. "I would be willing to make a sacrifice to make that happen," he said. "You just never know how it's going to work out financially. It would be cool, because I like it here. Doug [Melvin, the Brewers' general manager] is pretty straightforward, and it's just a matter of what direction they want to go in." I think the bolded part is the key. If Cameron had said, "I like it here and really want to stay," that would be totally different. Lee and Cordero said pretty much the same thing without the make a sacrifice part.
  21. So, just for clarification, in 2010...you'll be thrilled when Suppan, Gallardo, Bush, Parra, Looper (or Looper equal, sweetnlow, or whatever sugar subsitute you prefer) is trotted out as the rotation? Nobody would be thrilled with that rotation, but it is solid unless they all underperform like they did this year. I don't see how guys with career norms of .480 winning baseball get you an expected win total of 85-79. There are much better things to use than win%. I guess you would rather go with Looper than Gallardo if you are using win %. Looper does have a much better win % than Gallardo this year. Just curious, what did BP have as our expected W-L before the season? BP had us at 85 wins preseason.S
  22. I think Escobar can be a better defender that Hardy some day, but right now he isn't. Scouts always seem to talk about potential. The expectations for Escobar's hitting MLB are equal to Hardy's very bad year at the plate.
  23. I'm banking on Parra being as good as he was in 2008. Nobody is banking on him being as good as Cliff Lee. That was just an example of a pitcher who developed late. Parra may be 27, but his development was slowed by injuries so he hasn't had as much experience as most 27 year old guys. He went from starting a season in A+ on year to the majors by the end of the next season.
  24. I have to apologize as I was wrong about Parra's innings. He has 541.1 MiLB inningsbefore this year. As a point of reference, Gallardo has 396 MiLB innings. Parra however was only over 100 innings twice before being called up for good(excluding his short stint this year), once in 2003 and once in 2007.
