  1. I agree. Of course I would also say that if Escobar is up here, he might as well start.
  2. Parra may not be young in the sense that Gallardo is young, but his is still relatively young and inexperienced. He has only pitched a little over 500 innings in his entire professional career. He pitched poorly this year, but I see no reason to believe he can't pitch at least as well as he did in 2008. He is exactly the type of upside guy we would want to trade for with the added benefit of not having to give up anything to get him.
  3. Trading Parra makes very little sense to me. He is exactly the young, high upside type pitcher everybody wants to acquire. We are unlikely to trade for a guy like him without overpaying.
  4. One of the first great tips I picked up listening to other coaches talk, was to not get caught up playing talent. Play results, you can be better off as a team with a more productive but less talented player. Of course you are better with a more productive player. I agree you should play results over talent, as long as the more talented player is given a chance to succeed. I Hardy's case he was given more than ample opportunity to play. He should have been given more days off and I said as much very early in the season. I don't think Gamel or Escobar have been given a fair chance to succeed. I know some will disagree. Giving Hardy a day off with Gamel at 3B seems like a good idea that rarely happened.
  5. Davis threatened to go to arbitration unless he got a 3 year deal I believe. He wanted a long term deal after coming off a bad year.
  6. It might be interesting to bring back Kendall and start Patterson in CF and see who can put up the lowest OPS for the year.
  7. I just don't believe WAR gives enough credit to great players vs. terrible players. For a guy to raise his batting average by 50 points he has to get only one more hit a week, yet there is a huge difference in perception between a guy hitting .250 and a guy hitting .300. Breaking down and looking at how stats are calculated it is pretty easy to see the difference between being a great player and an average player is pretty small.
  8. The difference in wins between pitchers does make sense and can easily be calculated. 10 runs is generally considered a win. Half a point of ERA over 180 innings comes out to 10 runs so the difference between a 3.00 ERA and 5.00 ERA is 4 wins. When you start looking at win% for pitcher you start to cloud things by including run support. Including run support gets you things like Looper being a better pitcher than Gallardo because his win% is better.
  9. You are right, but I would check the battery first unless it was replaced recently. A battery will not lose it's charge normally unless the alternator is broken or the battery is old. Luckily for me, we have a battery charger where I work so I don't have to pay to get my battery checked. If my battery is ever dead, I charge my battery while I wok and have one of the maintenance guys check and see if it holds a charge. If you have any friends or friendly neighbors that work on cars(or I would guess farmers for their tractors) they might have one. Has to be the right voltage though. Risotto, it's rice. My wife makes it now and then. She says, "look, I made risotto." "Looks like rice to me honey."
  10. Looks like there is hope that Gallardo and Parra could be shut down in September. Link
  11. I am enjoying watching Soriano drastically underplay his bloated contract.
  12. At first I thought he seemed to be getting unlucky, then he just looked lost and he has not looked much better in AAA. At first I think he was unlucky. Then things snowballed from there.
  13. CC would have signed with the Brewers for the same amount of money New York paid him. Unless you mean that the Brewers will never take the risk to sign a free agent in his prime? There is could and should to consider. Anybody technically could sign anybody. There are budget restraints on every team. Some with more than others. I think the should is where the Brewers have to be careful. Players, especially pitchers, get injured. Depth is very important and putting to much money on any one player is a huge risk.
  14. An alternator is meant to keep a battery charged and power the electrical systems in your car. It is not meant to fully charge a battery. If your battery lost it's charge, you will have to get it charged.
  15. I would agree that Hart was ready to play when he came up. The thing is, he didn't play.
  16. Probably referring to practically everybody except for Fielder or Braun.
  17. Never mind what I said before about generic canned goods. I just talked to my dad yesterday and he said the stuff they canned for Wal-Mart and their own stuff was exactly the same. So my guess is the only difference between store brand and name brand is where they get it from. For example, Wal-Mart might get their stuff from Green Giant while Pick N' Save gets their stuff from Del Monte. I also have friends and family who work in cheese factories. Let's just say I wouldn't buy processed cheese.
  18. I didn't see it linked, but it looks 100% like JJ will be called up on Tuesday. Link Some interesting bits. I'm shocked that there is any serious sympathy for JJ. I'm not. JJ is a popular player with many fans and I believe his teammates. I can understand people who feel bad for JJ. I feel a little bad for him. On the other hand, he played terrible so I agree leaving him down is the right choice. Of course I would leave him down for the duration of the MiLB season and not call him up one day after he loses a year of service time.
  19. Melvin also acquired DeLaRosa.
  20. He is below average for a LF. LF has so many bad players even being a good LF means you are probably average at best in the outfield. He has misplayed more than one ball. If he had shown some improvement in the outfield I would say move him to right. As it is, his UZR/150 is lower than last year. It isn't so much lower that it can't be considered equal to last year. I would have expected him to be a positive fielder or at the very least show some improvement this year. He hasn't.
  21. Move Braun to RF and have Hart in CF No, and no. Braun is pretty brutal in LF. Hart is barely average in RF. It would be a bad idea to move either to a harder defensive position.
  22. Regardless, Capellan never exhibited any top of the rotation stuff (velocity, pitches, or command) in his stay in the Brewer's organization He exhibited them before being traded. He sounds pretty comparable to Jeffress minus a little velocity.(Capellan topped out at 101) Reading more on Capellan, he was the Braves top pitching prospect . I disagree that it is arguing semantics unless thinking of Jeffress as a a high ceiling player before his 2nd suspension is also semantics. We can disagree, but almost every source at the time had Capellan as one of the best prospects in all of baseball. Like many pitchers, he flamed out.
  23. I thought Zach Jack was in the low 90's, around 92.
  24. His post All Star break GO/AO is .58 compared to 1.28 before. I still think he is a terrible hitter.
  25. Holy crap. Guess who has a .827 OPS for August. Jason Kendall.
