  1. I think they only make you give the password after a certain time. 8 p.m. according to their site.
  2. Trade Assignment Waivers Trade assignment waivers are utilized in August as a means to gauge trade interest. Between August 1 and the end of the season, a player may not be traded without first clearing trade assignment Major League waivers. If the player is not claimed within 47 business-day hours, he may be traded to any club. If the player is claimed by another club, the request may be revoked, allowing his current club to pull him back. However, the player's current club also may 1) work out a trade with the claiming club within 48 ½ business-day hours, or 2) elect to allow the claiming club to take the player for a $20,000 fee and assume responsibility for his current contract. If more than one club claims a player, the club with the lower winning percentage has priority, but American League clubs have priority for AL players, and National League clubs have priority for NL players. Once a player on major league waivers has been claimed and the waiver request revoked, any subsequent request for major league waivers during the same waiver period is irrevocable. A player with a no-trade clause who is claimed on Major League waivers must be pulled back if the player's no-trade clause allows him to block a deal to the claiming club. However, the player may waive the no-trade clause and join the claiming club. Link
  3. Rios has a full no trade clause from 20009-2010. It looks like this is just a down year for him. He has a really low BABIP for one thing however his defense appears to still be pretty solid. Link The only reason I think he would be a bad pickup is because his contract runs into his age 33 season. 4. Short blog on "Drinkability." Link
  5. http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/lease.png I feel like that a lot.
  6. Escobar is likely a bottom of the order hitter when he comes up. At least for the first year. Yes he can steal bases, but he is still likely to be a rather weak hitter.
  7. Cuddyer is definitely established in the outfield. He is established as a bad defender. -8.0 UZR/150 over his career in RF. X ellence wrote: The argument of Cameron versus FA pitcher isn't a difficult one. Cameron will again be worth over 4 WAR this year. Will the $10 million Cameron would cost buy us a 4 WAR pitcher? Thats highly unlikely. Pitchers that project to 4 WAR get huge long term deals, the kind that shouldn't be given out. Cameron is a safe, productive player, and should be retained.
  8. I still remember when I went there and it was about 9 years ago. I thought it was a lot of fun. I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't had the flu at the time.
  9. We have been over the strikeout thing numerous times and if you are still focusing on strikeouts I can only conclude that you just don't believe a strikeout is almost identical to any other out. I can understand how it is frustrating to see strikeouts. On a scale of 1-10 a strikeout is probably about an 8 and a DP a 10. A ground out or fly out seems to have at least a little bit of success so they probably seem like a 3. I know a groundout or a flyout seem like more desirable outcomes, and they are in select circumstances. Most of the time, they are the same.
  10. I think Hardy can be traded for a Looper type pitcher, i.e. a #4 or #5 starting pitcher who can put up a 4.75 ERA and give you 30 starts a season, and he will be... Trading Hardy for a pitcher of that caliber would be a total waste. We can easily pick up a guy like that on the FA market without giving up players. If that is all we can get for Hardy, we are better off holding on to him and hoping for picks.
  11. Hart's stats now will look a whole lot better in CF His offense would, his defense would really suck in CF. He is slightly below average for a RF.
  12. So does the higher average guy then have a higher slugging percentage too? Because I think everyone would agree that obviously the higher avg is better then. It would seem it would be a given in all of the arguments so far. I think you are right that most people would agree with that. Looking at any one of the slash stats on their own makes for a very incomplete picture of a player. BA alone ignores walks and power. OBP alone ignores power. SLG alone ignores how often a player makes outs. OPS doesn't properly weigh walks vs singles. I wonder what the run expected difference would be for a 300/350/500 compared to a 250/350/500 hitter? I would guess the higher ba might make some difference but how much is negated by the relative lack of power in those hits. They are pretty much equal hitters. I am sure somebody could give you a much better and detailed explanation. I really don't have the time right now.
  13. Guys with lower averages and high OBPs will strikeout more than guys with a higher BA. What makes you think this? The huge split in BA/OBP only points to guys who walk a lot.
  14. Is it pretty much the consensus that Hardy is going to be dealt for some pitching after the year? No, I think the consensus is that we need pitching and Hardy would be one of the players we could trade to acquire a decent pitcher. Hardy has terrible at the plate He has been bad this year. If you think this year is a good representation of his talent, I think you are ignoring 2000+ AB in favor of under 400 AB and making a huge mistake in the way you evaluate players. he is very overrated in the field The only way this is true is if people are referring to him as a Gold Glove fielder. Every statistic(excluding fielding % since I didn't look it up and think it is a horrible way to look at defense) that evaluates defense ranks JJ among the best at defense. JJ is a very good defender.
  15. Batting average doesn't correlate well with runs scored on a team level at all. BA compared to runs looks like a shotgun blast. OBP looks more like a line.
  16. I wish we had guys like Jimmy Rollins in our lineup to make us better. Almost every single team has a couple bad hitting players in the lineup. None as bad as Kendall, but most don't have one hitter as good as Fielder and Braun let alone 2.
  17. You are making an assumption. Very few have actually said they think Braun is better than average. I think he is average and want him in RF because we, right now, have Hall who has limited experience in the OF and Catalanatto who isn't very good either. I think Braun can improve in the field and be a good outfielder in the future.
  18. Braun isn't anywhere near the defender he gets credit for being on this site. You mean Braun isn't an average defender? Most people here think Braun is average at best.
  19. To FTJ's point, if the Brewers made a low-ball offer, the judge is almost certain to side with the player, no matter what their bid. That happened vrey recently with the Phillies and Howard. Players rarely get less in an arbitration hearing than their previous year's contract. I believe you cannot submit an arby number that is less than 20% of the player's salary the previous year.
  20. I am not sure how tight the 40-man roster will be. I know it was pretty full and we even had to leave off a good player or two this year. If it comes down to Jeffress who doesn't have to be put on the 40-man and a player who does, then what?
  21. Honestly, if that is the case forget putting him on the 40-man roster. Get him the proper help for his problem. Don't be an enabler.
  22. Just my opinion, but a guy walking 5.8 batters per 9 over his career and over 10 per 9 in 2009 shows a lack of control. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the 40-man because I believe they have to put him on or expose him to the rule 5 draft(I think).
  23. With his speed(and knee problem) I would have to agree somewhat. Matt Holliday has a .355 career BABIP and was as high as .380 over one season. I don't think that .353 is sustainable for McGehee. It is hard to say though since his BABIP is all over the place.
