  1. They have a place that is just as good called Gyro Kabob(or maybe Gorilla Gyros). It is just across the street from Kelly's(or was when I was up there in March).
  2. Homer interviewed Macha a couple weeks back and I think it offers quite a bit of insight into his lineup construction. Link The interview is down the page a bit. If it isn't there, just click on any of them then pick it from the list of interviews in the pop-up window. -The stats guys with the Brewers brought down something like 100 lineups for him to look at. Fielder #2 was in some of the best lineups. -He really believes in protection. -Homer brings up Baseball Prospectus, I assume he means Baseball Between the Numbers. -My opinion is that he seemed to get a little testy while talking to Homer which would explain why TH doesn't seem to question Macha about his lineups much.
  3. As long as Melvin is doing the hiring of managers we are going to get just another "baseball guy" every time. We are going to switch poor bullpen management for a guy who can't handle a bench. We are going to go through several guys who manage with their guts. Take last year's manager candidates for example. Brenley, Randolph and Macha. None were very appealing in my mind, but Macha was by far the least objectionable. They were trying to find a "baseball guy" or somebody with experience.
  4. No, but I think I will at some point. I am going to attempt to make gyro meat and the grill would be the next step after that.
  5. I don't think he was getting enough at bats to adjust to how pitchers were pitching him. It is hard to adjust when only given sporadic playing time. It was very obvious that he was being pitched a certain way. If he had been playing regularly and not making adjustments I would agree he wasn't ready yet and might not ever be.
  6. Gamel at third and Counsell/ McGehee at second is not the best option today. It is Lopez at second and McCounsell at third. I disagree. I think Gamel is the best option right now. Gamel was showing signs of improving and was much better when given regular playing time at 3B and should be expected to hit even better.
  7. Nobody thinks Attanasio may have had a hand in the Hall contract? Hall had a great year in Attanasio's first year as owner. I think DM has been ok with the free agents he has signed, with the exception of Suppan. Cameron was a great signing in my opinion. Just compare his contract and performance to what Hunter got in the same offseason.
  8. We tried some gyro meat from a grocery store in Madison, but my wife thought the meat had to many bread crumbs in it. Thanks for the tips guys.
  9. I have no idea what I meant. I have gyro on the brain.
  10. There's no such thing as "kind of" pregnant. Either you are or you are not.oops, the "i" and "o" keys era so close together.
  11. About the same as this year baring any major moves. A mid eighties win team that could get hot and win the division. Almost impossible to make much of a guess until the middle of Spring Training though.
  12. Braun has kind of been knocked up all season I believe. He never gets a day off so I wouldn't be surprised if his injury from spring training is acting up.
  13. Has anybody ever made their own cucumber sauce or gyro meat? I have a craving for some Gyros and will probably get some one way or another this weekend, but the closest place that makes decent ones is on State Street in Madison and that isn't very convenient(it's the only place I know of in Madison though). I think I know a place where I can score some gyro meat and am going to give it a try. Pita bread is easy to find as well.
  14. Not much. I wouldn't say that he doesn't want to go after top flight free agents, I would say that he can't compete on them. He made a big offer to CC, but it was still far from what CC eventually got. We were never realistically in the running.
  15. I think it fair to say he is saying I was wrong in using this season's stats to compare the two. I am using single season stats in a very narrow way because there is no better stats to use. I was saying that you are wrong to look at just this year to compare the 2. There are better stats to use. This is where scouting comes into play more when comparing players and why just stats is bad. We need to lean a little more heavily on scouting for Mat Gamel. The recent stats for Counsell should be weighted a little more to make an educated guess at what we should expect from him, but you seem to be entirely dismissing anything before this year in your decision that Counsell is a better player. Counsell is a weak hitter. Gamel is a very good hitter trying to adjust to MLB pitching. I think it speaks volumes when 2 players are putting up similar stats yet one is by most accounts struggling and the other is having a much better than expected year. It is obvious to me that Gamel would be a better hitter from now till the end of the year if both were given equal opportunity. You never argued defense and that is where Counsell may be a better option. But if we are talking about how well he will do over the next month and a half I think the weight of current play goes up significantly but not while ignoring that Counsell is not a good hitter.
  16. Well this is a good move for the future while taking a small step back this year. We gain an extra year of Gamel, if he stays down long enough, and a possible sandwich pick.
  17. I can appreciate you taking the company line on this. I still think you are really mistaken in you belief in Counsell. . I really can't express in the proper words how I feel about a fan thinking that Counsell is a better hitting option than Gamel. This is just taking single season stats way to far.
  18. Gamel vs. Counsell doesn't matter. It doesn't now, but prior to acquiring Lopez it did. When they do start to regress then call Gamel up. Counsell has been getting worse every month since May. I would say he has already started to regress. Counsell has a better average, OBP and slugging % than Gamel. How can you justify Gamel over Counsell? Especially when you take into consideration Counsell is more likely to be able to handle irregular playing time better. Gamel may have the better overall skilllset and the better career but as of now the numbers don't lie. Counsell has been better. Making that decision based on only this year's stats is really the wrong way to go. I like your point about irregular playing time because it fits my argument that we shouldn't have acquired Lopez in the first place. We should have just played Gamel and put Counsell mostly on the bench. You seem to be trying to twist my arrangement into Counsell DFA vs Gamel to the minors. Obviously keeping Counsell for the bench is the right thing to do. However, while both sere on the team if was just plain foolish to play Counsell ahead of Gamel.
  19. His high K rate could easily be explained away by his inconsistent playing time. Even with the high K rate, he still put up decent numbers. If we are going to continue making arguements using just this year's stats, we might as well break things down by month. Doing so shows that Counsell peaked in May(.690, .825, .788, .625 OPS by month) and has gotten worse since. McGehee had a really good month in June(1.100 OPS) a good month in July(.793 OPS) and really bad other than that(.500 OPS April, .620 OPS May). Gamel on the other hand is actually currently the hottest hitter of the 3 (.821 OPS in July) while improving steadily since his callup(.726, .720, .821).
  20. He may need to improve, but any player can strike out a lot and still be valuable as long as they maintain their OBP/SLG/OPS numbers. It has been a while since having a strikeout conversation, but nothing has changed, they still matter very little in comparison to the slash stats.
  21. If we didn't have someone who was playing better now fine. Since we have better options I don't see how you can justify playing him over that person. You can't justify playing Gamel over Counsell?
