  1. I am not disputing the claim that he was traded to the Brewers just that 2 of our top prospects are at SS and 2B(Alcides Escobar and Brett Lawrie) along with 2 other solid prospects(Taylor Green 2B/3B and Brent Brewer SS).
  2. I would be shocked to see the Brewers trade for a SS/2B prospect. We are 2 deep in the minors at each position with a solid MLB player as well.
  3. Nah, let us figure out the answers. Just a sampling of the type of questions I have. A little math, spelling and review from last year. Which MLB stadium got Rick Rolled in 2008? Spell the first and last name of the Seattle Mariners new GM. Who hit the game winning HR against the Mets on the last day of the season to put the Brewers in the playoffs? What are the Brewers top 4 minor league affiliates? How many teams have a longer playoff drought than the Brewers? Name them and put them in their divisions. If there are 24 weeks in a baseball season, how many more hits a week will a .300 hitter get than a .250 hitter if each has 500 at bats? What numbers have the brewers retired?
  4. Pulling guys in and out of the lineup because of performance isn't generally a good idea. Players are streaky and looking at the bigger picture is the way to go. All of our players have enough MLB experience that we have a good idea what to expect. Unless somebody is not giving good effort, they shouldn't be pulled out of the lineup for more than a normal rest day. Maybe he's trying to light a fire under Weeks, and he thinks the best way is to threaten his position on the team. It starts by publicly toying with the idea of someone else hitting leadoff. Maybe that will result in Weeks playing better at lead off. I really doubt Weeks would mind moving out of the leadoff spot. I would also prefer Villanueva to be used in a more flexible role than "8th inning guy." Villy can go multiple innings. Why use him one inning at a time?
  5. My family and I are having our annual preseason baseball party this weekend. Exchange of baseball cards(I am giving out Gamel cards, a team photo of the 2008 Huntsville Stars, and a Fielder/Braun bookmark that changes pictures when you turn it amazing the inexpensive cool stuff you can find on Ebay sometimes) cookout and baseball quiz prepared by me. I did a quiz last year so I need a little help with the questions. The people are all more than just casual fans, but not as fanatical as the average BF.net poster. I will give a few examples of questions on Friday when I have more time.
  6. Considering that quote and the fact that we think he overestimated the number of pitches Villanueva has thrown, I think we can say that Macha is prone to hyperbole. why are we getting so bent out of shape over nothing? Who's bent out of shape? We are having a civil discussion about whether Kendall should bat leadooff. I'm sure we could have any of the other 29 managers in baseball and we could dissect each and every move and be pretty dissatisfied with half of them. Half? Heck, I would say we would find fault with all 30 managers if we watched them enough.
  7. logan's numbers were way off, Macha didn't make anything up in regards to Villy... Maybe they were. They are the only numbers provided though. Please come up with better if you are going to accuse me of being "way off."
  8. 8 if Gallardo is pitching. Don't get me wrong I really like Kendall, but his value is not in his bat at this point in his career. If we were talking about 2006 and earlier Kendall, that would be awesome, however we are not.
  9. We'll get enough extra picks when our players walk in FA like Hardy and Fielder... my gut feeling is that Melvin plans to ride out Hardy and Fielder into FA. I think Melvin will as well, but mostly because the return on those players will not justify trading them. There seems to be a notion that we would get top of the rotation talent that we would control for 4+ years for either of those players. I really doubt it. More likely would be a top guy that we would only have for 1-2 years. In my opinion, if we trade either, we should be getting talent we would control for longer than the players we gave up.
  10. "What he does is almost every at-bat is a seven-pitch at-bat," said Macha. "He'll take a walk" P/PA- Kendall/Weeks 2006 4.08/3.89 2007 3.96/4.18 2008 3.63/4.14 Career* 3.92/4.09 PA/BB Kendall/Weeks 2006 11.8/13.8 2007 65.7/6.5 2008 11.7/8.5 Career 11.6/8.9 I think it is safe to say that 2007 was an outlier for Kendall as far as walks are concerned. I don't think that Macha is a numbers guy. That doesn't make him a bad manager though. People say a typical leadoff hitter can steal a base. I don't want to be giving up outs on the bases with guys up there who can hit homers. I like that quote a quite a bit. *Career for Kendall is actually 2002-2008 since ESPN.com calculated his P/PA at 2.12(obviously wrong) and didn't have number of pitches before 2002
  11. I think that if you are going to look at K/BB ratio you should compare it to runs scored and look at all teams instead of team record or whether they were in the playoffs.
  12. The big kicker is his strikeouts. He's almost doubled up Roberts and Hudson. If he could just figure out a way to cut down on the K's by even 20%, imagine how much better his numbers would be after making that much more contact How much would that affect his SLG though. If Weeks can keep up his career OBP, he should be fine.
  13. What if the 600-pounder cuts him before the end of spring training? That would be priceless.
  14. IP/pitches/runs 1/16/0 1/7/0 1/10/3 2/10/0 2/14/0 1.1/36/5 Two outings where he gave up any runs. 5 runs once and 3 runs once. only one outing that was really bad. Link I think Macha is overreacting, and we all might be also. He seems to be just thinking out loud. Not something that is good for somebody in his position. He might have already talked to Villanueva though. Like I said with Yost, "don't try to read to much into press conferences." Of course that's what I have been doing here. My bad.
  15. He doesn't need to go out there and start overthrowing just to impress Macha. Maybe he does, and I see that as a problem. To be honest the most troubling thing to me is Macha's continued man love of Suppan. You almost get the feeling he likes older players.
  16. I was afraid something like this would happen when he said that he was coming into camp without looking at anything about the players. I still think that Villanueva is our best reliever. In the end though maybe this will lead to a more fluid bullpen where the hot hand gets the highest leverage innings against the heart of the order. Outside of Hoffman being designated as the closer of course. None of us here know CV or his personality so it is unfair to critizize how Macha handles certain players. The whole point of this board is to comment on what we think of various Brewer related news. I personally liked the "keep things in house" attitude of Yost.
  17. New Belgium isn't one of may favorites either, but more variety is nice. My mom and step dad love New Belgium. They are a "green" brewery. Edit: Shot off an E-mail to my mom and step dad. They are bringing New Belgium 1554 to our baseball cookout this weekend. Not sure what I am bringing yet, New Glarus Black Wheat or Stone Soup most likely. Post edit: I really should link to the website that the news article was linked from. I think the link is off the first page now. Madison Beer Review
  18. Like any team on a budget (which appears to be everyone except the yankees) Every team is on a budget it is just that some have a really high budget(Yankees, Red Sox amongst others) and some have very stingy owner with a crappy budget(Marlins). All the rest fall somewhere in between. Weeks will be around until a decent replacement is ready. This may be Taylor Green, Have to disagree with this since Green is expected to miss time at the start of this season(a couple months I think) and he hasn't played a game above A+ ball yet. I thought Crew07 was spot on in that the debate isn't necessarily Hardy vs. Escobar, but rather what is best for the future of the team. I think that everybody has been arguing whether Hardy or Escobar is the best choice for the team's future thus the arguement is really Hardy vs Escobar. There are many variables though most importantly when will Escobar be ready for the majors, will JJ sign a long term contract, is it better to invest our money in Hardy or go with the cheaper Escobar and get another player as well, and what is the return in trade we can get for either player.
  19. I think like Hawing said they only give you a sticker for your driver's license for change of address. It will cost more, but if you want a new one you will have to say you lost your old one.
  20. May be old news to some, but it looks like New Belgium should be in Wisconsin by the end of summer. Link .
  21. I bet he changes his signature within the next year. If he is going to be signing autographs a lot he can't sign like that. You can actually read it mostly. His signature stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the others.
  22. Good recipe. I halved everything though. I still couldn't get it all to stick to the bird.
  23. I think most metrics had Braun as slightly below average or average.
  24. Wow, that is a fantastic privilege. Thank you very much Jamie.
  25. They started at the bottom and are up to #21 with 4 teams in our division already. Astros(28), Pirates(26), Reds(24), Cardinals(21). Brutal review of the Astros. Not much surprising though. Link Rips into the cheapskate Marlins owner as well.
