  1. Women's team in the Frozen Four. In fact 3 0f the 4 teams are WCHA teams. Unless I am mistaken every women's champion has been a WCHA team.
  2. I am sitting here drinking a Black Wheat. It is a really dark beer. On par with a porter or stout. Slightly brown head. I think my wife will like it. Sort of a roasted nut taste. Think I will stick with the Stone Soup until the Dancing Man appears again. Edit: Yup, the wife loves it. Likes it even better than the Coffee Stout. It is a quality beer, just a little dark for my taste.
  3. Rickie-esque at the plate is league average or a little above. If his glove was average, he would be a very solid major leaguer. He isn't as easy to replace as many seem to think. There is just the "2nd overall pick" stuff that follows him and generates high expectations, with good reason. If he never meets those expectations, he will be considered a bust, which is unfair.
  4. .340 is still one of the better OBPs on the team. Considering his career OBP is closer to .352, he is probably our best bet as a leadoff hitter outside of JJ if you assume Fielder and Braun shouldn't leadoff.
  5. If we had a good 2B almost ready I could see moving Weeks. As it stands right now the closest is probably Taylor Green and he is probably not due until 2010 at the earliest. Our outfield is also pretty full right now. Overflowing if Gamel ends up in the outfield with Cain, Braun, and Hart next year. The best option in my opinion is to hold onto Weeks until he hits free agency and then let Green or Lawrie take over.
  6. If Weeks, or any player for that matter, is moved to the outfield, they should start in a corner or learn in the minors.
  7. We have control of Weeks until the end of the 2011 season at least.
  8. I usually fill up after hours so I would have to go in the next day.
  9. Doesn't work to well when you pay at the pump. Maybe I can go in and have them stamp a card full for me.
  10. Calling up Gamel to be a platoon player would be a waste of service time in my opinion.
  11. Yes, it was a huge mistake unless Hall figures out how to hit RHP again.
  12. At worst we have a solid replacement in AAA for either Weeks or Hardy in 2010 in case one goes down with an injury. I know people are scared off of draft compensation right now, but unless we would get something good in trade, it doesn't pay to get rid of either before we have to.
  13. If Counsell ends up as the big part of a platoon at any position for any reason other than temporarily because of injury, somebody made a big mistake.
  14. Link Hopefully Hall works out at 3B without a platoon.
  15. Enjoy the New Glarus ALT while you can. I believe it was taken off their schedule for this year. Just got an E-mail asking how I liked Hops N Props. I am sure others got one as well, but if you went and didn't get one PM me and I will send you the address. Good news on Dancing Man coming out early. I will start me search for Black Wheat this weekend. Another beer I liked at HNP was Dogfishhead 60 Minute IPA. Didn't like the 90 min.
  16. Durham and Weeks also had insanely good Septembers. That is until Sveum took over benched Weeks and rode Durham until he broke. I seriously doubt escobar's defense will be a full win better than hardy's Count me in that camp as well. Unless Escobar comes in and plays better defense than every SS in the league, it is no more than half a win. Hardy isn't far behind the best defenders. Who on our team would we trade for a top 5 stating position player if we would only have that player for a year? I seriously doubt we would trade Gallardo or Parra. That is why I think expecting much more than a Bush level pitcher in return is setting expectations to high.
  17. It isn't that Hardy fields everything hit to him. Most metrics show that he does that and has good range as well. He is one of the top 5 best fielding shortstops in MLB over the last 3 years.
  18. Honestly it makes no sense to trade Escobar unless Hardy signs a long term contract. I think right now Hardy has more trade value, but after this season teams would only be trading for one year of Hardy and it makes no sense to trade much for a guy for only one year unless you feel you can resign him to a big deal. That limits our trading options. If Escobar is hitting well in AAA, I say trade Hardy by the deadline.
  19. My feeling is that we wouldn't get much in trade for Hardy unless we trade him by the trading deadline this year. What is reasonable to expect for one year of a guy? I would think nothing more than a Bush level pitcher if he is traded after the season.
  20. My favorite so far this year is the blogging about Lawrie's position switch to 2B when it was in a thread here for a few weeks before that. Oh, and the number of arbitration years Weeks had.
  21. Yes I had access to the internationals. I am 50/50 on doing that part again. I think that my wife and I recognized and had tried most of what they had there before going. I have to admit being a little overwhelmed with the event being my first time at one. I think next year I will do things a little differently. 1. Eat beforehand - many booths ran out of half their beer starting at about an hour in. We couldn't try but 2 of the beers brought by Central Waters Brewery 2. Get there at least half an hour early - They won't let you in, but you can look through the book they hand out and decide what you really want to try. I feel I didn't get the best experience I could have and most of that was my own fault. 3. Remember to cleanse the palate - By the time we left, we couldn't taste much and that sort of defeats the purpose I am eagerly awaiting the Black Wheat, but until then I am content with the Stone Soup. Overall I had a really good experience and am 100% sure I want to go again next year. If anybody likes IPA, it was well represented.
  22. Well, not nearly as much to say as fstorm. We didn't try the food at all. We went to Water City Grill to eat beforehand and I am glad I did. The lines for the food looked pretty long. They honestly could have replaced the food with bowls of pretzels and more water booths. At the very least they could have put the food booth in the first room off to one side somewhere so that people weren't all lined up in beer booth areas. I was thinking where they had the Michelob, budweiser, and wine booth. I was also disappointed by an almost complete absence of wheats. There were however lots of ales. My wife and I only stuck around for an hour and a half. We are thinking of trying to get a bigger group for next year. We went and me one of my friends out at Peabody's where they had a really good stout/porter on tap. Can't remember what it was, but it had a big H on the tapper. We had tried almost one beer from 50-60% of the breweries that were represented. We completely skipped Lienkugles, Point, and Capitol breweries having already tired most of their beers. Beers of note from my wife and I. Dark Horse Brewery Tres Blueberry Stout - nice dark stout with small hint of blueberry Brewery Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Weltenburger Kloster Hefe Weissbier Dunkel
  23. Giving this thread a bump. Tis the season after all. I think I have grilled 3 of the last 4 weekends. I think there is only one weekend I missed since the Super Bowl. I just can't wait for spring. Does anybody have recommendations for baked potatoes on the grill? I notice that somebody mentioned a KC Masterpiece marinade a few pages back. I tried their BBQ sauce on ribs a couple weeks ago. I thought it was great. Cheap too. About a buck cheaper for the same size bottle as other name brand stuff. I boiled the ribs before putting them on the grill. They pretty much went on the grill for flavor. Very tender.
  24. Nobody said that Hall is a Gold Glover(of course he might be, Jeter won one after all so almost anybody could be). They are pointing out that even if you watch every single Brewers game, you don't have a good basis of comparison to figure out where a player rates compared to other MLB players on defense.
  25. Mmm, Hops N Props tomorrow. I have been looking forward to this for over a year. Wife and I are meeting friends to eat and then proceeding to the event. I doubt it can possibly live up to my expectations, but at least it is a night out without the kids or driving.
