  1. Hall is supposed to be ready to play in the next couple weeks.
  2. Couple that with the Parra running out of gas like he did in the late second half, I just don't know that they have the horses to be better than last year as the year runs down. That is not something to worry about. Parra wore down about the time when many people thought he would. He should be good for 190+ innings this year. Gallardo, well who knows. I think he should be good for close to 190 innings, but not much more. A Hall/Lamb platoon is better than a Counsell/Hall platoon. Hall hurt us for the first few months of the season an platooning him from the start will help. Our only real loses are Sheets and CC. Other than taht we are equal or better than last year. If those guys are no better than 4 wins each and even figuring that we should have only won 86 games last year that would put us at 78 wins before figuring in what we gain from a year of Gallardo and offensive production. Going inot the season fuguring we are going to be a 82 win or worse team is just extreme pessimism.
  3. I redid the original recipe but took out the butter completely. I rubbed 2 Tbs of olive oil on the outside and inside of the bird then the dry ingredients. Turned out just as well without the butter. I plan on using one of LouisEly's recipes next weekend. I picked one of these to do beer butt chicken. It works great and I am not limited to whatever I have in a can. I have been doing some reading and apparently any liquid will do. I am also going to revisit the grilling thread from last year and try some of the hamburger mixes people recommended. I got a pretty nifty hamburger press for Christmas so my hamburgers don't end up as meatballs. Also need a little clarification on what you do with the seasoning on the recipe Louis. Do you use all the seasoning on the outside or do you put some in with the beer?
  4. That is exactly the lineup I was thinking. Of course that would all depend on where Hardy/Hart/Cameron would rank as hitters. The projections have them as Hart, Hardy and then Cameron. Even if they are pretty close as hitters, the 5/6 holes are a good to have speed. Of course Hall/Lamb, if they are platooned, might outhit some of our other hitters. It sounded like Macha was leaning towards giving Hall the job full time before his injury.
  5. I am thinking that Macha saying he might not be the ace might have made him say no. I doubt it. Good news. The best news in this whole sink hole of an offseason.
  6. Orlando Hudson has been average or below the last 3 years on defense. He would probably be a small upgrade on defense. He was only a little better over the last 3 years on offense as well. Hudson would only be a small upgrade over Weeks at 2B and if you add giving up our 1st round pick and the big downgrade in CF, Weeks to CF and Husdon at 2B would have made our team much worse for very little savings in money and giving up a pick.
  7. Fangraphs estimated that Roberts should get $46M over a 4 year deal. Looks kind of like they got a discount, but that isn't considering the current market.
  8. I am surprised a team would give up their first round pick for a one year deal.
  9. When are the Bucks going to move so I can watch the Badgers hockey games and all the Brewers games without the basketball games interrupting?
  10. I think you mean Plasma screens are more reflective. They're generally more of a glossy finish while typical LCDs are more of a matte.Yup, sorry. LCDs are preferred in light rooms because plasmas have reflective screens.
  11. I think the reason that LCDs are preferred in bright rooms is because their screens are more reflective. I also think they have started to make screens that are less reflective.
  12. Most of the money on our roster was spent on raises for our current players. He didn't have much to work with considering the number of hole we had to fill through free agency. Edit: This off season Melvin didn't do anything that will have a long term detrimental effect on this team.
  13. I think Melvin did a good job considering our budget constraints. He held out and got a bargain rate on a starter. Not that Looper is anything to get excited about, but at least we shouldn't completely tank when a pitcher goes down. C I guess. Nothing special, nothing horrible.
  14. I don't think it had anything to do with the escalators. Kendall has started more games than most catchers throughout his entire career.
  15. Strikeouts correlate to success for pitchers, that is pitchers with high strikeout rates usually are pretty good.(BB rate is also a big factor) Strikeouts have little correlation for hitters. Some of the best hitters strikeout a lot. Just a guess.
  16. That's surprising to me too. I guess they think Salome and/or Lucroy will pan out. Or will Brett catch a little like how Rottino was transitioned to catcher in 2005 & 06? Even if both pan out it doesn't hurt to have another guy in the system especially given the length of time it apparently takes to bring a catcher up through the system. We are a trade and a promotion away from not having any solid catching prospects in the minors if Lawrie isn't catching. If Lawrie can handle 2B I don't think it would make sense to move him to 3B unless we already have a good defensive 2B. I guess it matters where Green ends up.
  17. One thing I noticed about the TVs at Wal-Mart is that, as of last November, none of them had a refresh rate higher than 60 Mhz. How much difference that makes, I don't know.
  18. True, and many of the TVs at Wal-Mart have slightly different model numbers.
  19. Yeah definitely avoid Wal-Mart. They get TV's that are brand name, but just a little bit off like they are special made with features left out. Fewer inputs, lower contrast ratios, and other stuff. Not bad, but just a little off.
  20. As long as they don't take me out of the telecast of the game.
  21. I guess I don't see the big deal in this. It's one of those baseball things that seems to make logical sense. Catchers wear down over the course of the year. I think there is a possibility that we are all falling into traditional thinking that catchers shouldn't catch more than 130 games a year at most. I think there is a possibility that Kendall's smallish(for a catcher) size allows him not to get as worn out over the year.
  22. It isn't about pitch counts, it's about throwing the off speed stuff before your arm is ready. Either that or starting throwing early so your arm is ready and wearing out earlier in the season.
  23. Lawrie isn't going to be starting at catcher?
  24. Agree on the timing thing. I think it is hard on pitchers. Most pitchers only throw their fastball for the first few times out in spring training. Sometimes not even mixing in their off speed stuff until the final couple week before the season. For position players I think it is ok. Other than worrying about a Brewer pitcher getting hurt, I really couldn't care less. Seems like a good idea for the rest of the world though.
