  1. None of the above. None are likley to stay in Wisconsin long enough or have enough success to be much more than solid players. Everybody else you listed ie a hall of famer.
  2. I can't wait till next year when we are having this same discussion about LaPorta.
  3. Sounds like they are leaning towards a Kapler/Gross/TGJ platoon in CF for the most part. I think they will split the starts against righties about 50/50 between Gwynn and Gross. I am not even sure Dillon makes the roster.
  4. Time to start the TGJ trade rumor thread again I guess.
  5. Yeah I have to agree that is not tailgating. Sounds more like bar hopping to me.
  6. Most people I talk to, including my family go to Florida o vacation. If they do move I hope it is to the Fort Myers area.
  7. Turnbow was great at stranding inherited runners up until last year. I see no reason that he couldn't be good at stranding runners again.
  8. I think the fields are a little worse in spring trainig also.
  9. I guess I am just of the opinion that we should keep players who have a shot at helping us in the future playing regular time so they stay sharp and letting a less talented pitcher sit and warm the bench.
  10. I think he played SS in college for at least a couple years. No, his playing at SS doesn't really play into anything other than Hardy commenting on how it is nice to have a SS playing at 3B. I was just pointing out that Braun also played SS.
  11. My guess would be McClung getting the spot as he is also out of options, or Stetter. More likley Stetter as Yost have talked about keeping 2 lefties out of the pen. I think a 2nd LOOGY is a waste of a roster spot, the 1st is somewhat as well as I would reather have a lefty who can also face righties but I digress.
  12. The role that Vargas and Villanueva will end up fighting over is the long relief role. Why should we put a promissing young pitcher in a position where he pitches once every two weeks. It would be much better to send him to AAA and have him start every 5th day. As others have stated, we are probably going to need one or two extra starters at some point. Leaving him on a regular 5 day rotation in AAA is the best way to keep him ready for that eventuality.
  13. Last year when discussing Braun and his defense it was brought up that Hardy might be playing a little more towards 3B to cover for Braun. Bill Hall had a quote in the Wisconsin State Journal that somewhat confirms this. Kind of makes you wonder how much one poor defender can affect the rest of the infield. How much do you think having a better defensive 1B would help? "We can already see it in spring training," he said. "J.J. told me he's able to play way more up the middle because he knows a former shortstop playing third base has some range. So he's more up the middle. I'm getting balls in the six hole and he's getting balls up the middle. That's got to be 15 to 20 more outs a year." Of course Braun was also a former SS. http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/brewers/275735
  14. What is the draw of the Cardinals this year without Pujols? The team isn't going to be competative and if they lose their star player I really wouldn't see much reason to go.
  15. We are gonig yo need as many arms as possible next year as well. Like somebody said, the dropoff from our 8th to 9th starter is huge. If we trade a guy plus lose Sheets suddenly 8 and 9 become 6 and 7. We probably have 15-16 guys right now, but many are on 1 year deals. Without trading anybody we probably only have 10 of those guys under our control for sure next year.
  16. I got my September 7th tickets yesterday. I ordered them last week.
  17. Pretty easily actually. We are also concerned with next year and the year after and so on as much as this year. There is no need to get rid of somebody just to make room especially in the case of Villanueve who is very similar to Capuano, Bush, and Suppan. Making moves just to get Villy and Parra on the MLB roster is shortsighted.
  18. He has an option and we want to keep our depth. He is pretty much the same type pitcher as Capuano, Bush, and Suppan. By that I mean they are all control pitchers with average stuff. I will say, however, that I wasn't aware of Parra's inning's limit. It isn't his age so much as the fact that he only pitched 133 innings last year. It is generally accepted that you don't want to increase a pitcher's innings much more than 30 innings a year. That would put him around 160-170 innings this year.
  19. My thoughts exactly. Crap, one line post.. must add something. Sorry I got nothing. MVP '05 was the pinnacle of baseball games.
  20. While he may be better than most of our pitchers, he does not have the experience that they do. There has been talk of Villanueve being one of our best 5 starters, but he is probably also headed down. We really should get used to having guys in AAA who probably deserve a shot at the MLB roster, but will end up in AAA because they have options left. Agree or not, like it or not, Melvin and Yost have shown in the past that they will go with experience over raw talent when it comes to roster choices. The options of Parra and Villanueva allow us to keep them without giving up anybody. To me it is looking towards the future when guys like that end up going down.
  21. I am still not sure there are any space crunches. We are not going to go out with our 12 best pitchers, but it isn't like we are leaving behind someone who isn't more than a little better than what we keep. Villanueva and Parra being the biggest examples. They are both better than who we probably end up keeping, but it isn't like they are head and shoulders better.
  22. After his comments about never liking 3B I am no longer convinced of that.
  23. Like others have said, don't go over your immediate supervisor. They are the one who is more than likley to have the most direct input into most of your wage increases and while you may get a raise right now, it will probably hurt you in the long run by alienating them. You aren't going to be doing yourself any good by making you supervisor look like a fool which, trust me, you are going to make him/her feel like if their boss tells them you ased for a raise.
  24. I guess I must be going under the radar. My brother quit coming to this site for a while because of what he saw as cliquishness. He of course said something and got himself a strike so I told him to suck it up. I will agree that there is also an "if you can't measure it by stats, it doesn't exist" feel sometimes that leaves no room for intangibles.
