  1. I guess I don't really care if Ryan is in or not. Not a big deal to me.
  2. I heard this on ESPN radio this morning and now the Sporting News has picked up on it as welll. Apparently our neighbors down to the south are beginning to feel Brewer breath on the back of their necks. The guys on ESPN were of the opinion that the A's still feel they can contend and probably won't move Harden. I guess we'll see. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=431956

  5. Not playing the Sox isn't really a problem for me. When we were in the AL I always considered the Twins a bigger rival than the Sox anyway. For me it goes back to the late 60s when I was a Twin and Cub fan as a kid. Those were the 2 teams that were televised in Madison at the time. When the Pilots moved to Milwaukee I dropped the other 2 teams and became a Brewer fan only. So the Twins and Cubs have always been bigger rivals for me. I always considered the Sox to be just another team.
  6. Exactly. How can a team get lucky and have six straight winning seasons? I don't care what division you are in that's pretty impressive considering what their payroll has looked like over that period of time. Everybody talks about the great job they do in Oakland with moneyball and then they turn around and blast the Twins.Seems ridiculous to me. .
  7. We had a problem getting several HD channels in Madison (including FSN) and DirecTV came out and adjusted our dish. Now were fine.
  8. I am all for getting CC but not at the price of Gamel or LaPorta. I might be willing to deal one of them if CC would sign long term before the trade goes down but thst is highly unlikely. You just don't trade prospects of that caliber for a 2 month rental. Yeah you would get draft picks in return but their futures would be more risky than Gamel are LaPorta's futures are.

  11. And they have had 6 winning seasons in 7 years. And in 2007 (their only losing season) they won 79 games. I'm not sure you can call that luck.
  12. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but a bigger question for me is when Gagne does come back does he get his closer job back? I certainly hope not.
  13. I think a lot of managerial changes are made not because the front office thinks it will help but to appease an angry ticket buying public. I once heard a quote (can't remember from whom I heard it) that said " A bad manager can hurt a team more thamn a good manager can help one". In other words if you ain't got the talent you could bring Walter Alston back from the dead and it wouldn't help but if you do have the talent a bad manager can screw ir up. I pretty much agree with that.
  14. You wouldn't be one of those who criticizes Yost for leaving Bush in too long would you? Seems Ned can't win. Maybe he should get a crystal ball so he can see into the future.
  15. This certainly brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "Getting up for a game".
  16. OK. Fair enough. Overall improvement is theoretically possible without improving the road record. But I still feel that this team's inability to play well on the road is hampering their ability to compete (and to improve their record) and it needs to be taken into consideration by the front office as they try to improve this team. How much can you really improve overall if you don't start winning on the road? The problem of course is, as I alluded to in my original post, is how do you deal with this problem? There really is no solution because there is no real clear explanation for it. Maybe you are right. Maybe they need to look at this problem from a player by player point of view rather than from a team view. Because other than that what can you do?
  17. You don't seriously believe that a team that cannot play .400 ball at home has a legitimate shot at doing anything? I haven't done any studies on this or anything but common sense tells me it would be a bit difficult without improving our road record.
  18. Having just finished another successful home stand and beginning the road trip 0-2 got me to thinking about the Brewers road woes over the last few years. Over the Last 3 years the Crew's Win% home/road splits have looked like this: 2006 Home .592 Road .333 2007 Home .630 Road .395 2008 Home .655 Road .394 Total Home .618 Road .369 The third staright year our road% is like 250 points below our home%. What is this about? There is something seriously wrong here and untl it is fixed we really can't go anywhere. But how do you fix something like this? I don't know. It's not something you can fix through personell moves like shaking up the lineup or the rotation. Or by firing the manager. So what do you do? It's been happening for so long now that it just can't be pure coincidence or luck. It's extremely frustrating. That I know.
  19. They scored that a triple steal after it was started by a baserunning error (runner gets caught off first). That's a joke. I'd probably score it E2 with the other 2 runners advancing on a fielders choice. No SB.
  20. I can't let this comment go with no response. You really feel that way? You'd say that our free-fall from excellence to a mediocre ~.500 team last year was not a collapse? No it wasn't a collapse. The 69 Cubs, The 78 Red Sox, The 64 Phillies now those were collapses of epic proprotions. Last year the Brewrers just played way over their heads for the first 6 weeks. Everything went right for them. Check JJ's numbers through May of 07. Are they realistic? Of course not. In July and August the pitching went south and their record followed. It happens all the time. The Brewers simply were not good enough to keep up the early pace they set.
  21. I hate to repeat myself but until he proves he can get AAA hitters out he has no business pitching in Milwaukee.
  22. I don't know why anybody would think that not being able to get AAA hitters out is a sign that a pitcher is ready to face Albert Pujols. Seriously, It's the same situation we had with ZachJack. Why call him up when he can't get hitters out in Nashville? Because he's considered the best pitching prospect the Sounds have? Beacause he has big league experience? It makes no sense to me. I agree with TooLiveBrew, if it's a choice between Weaver, Villy, and McClung I say put Villy back in the rotation. He has the best chance of helping us in the future.
  23. Yeah how can they trademark the name Cubs. Will teachers be able to tell kids what a baby bear is called without facing trademark infringement violations. When I was in Little League we not only used the team names but wore patches with the MLB team logos on our hats. Bud has taken this a bit too far I'm afraid.
  24. I'M over 40 And I think he is the most annoying sports announcer on TV. Period.
