  1. Add Shane Peterson and give him a try. Parra should still be traded.
  2. when will inman was traded for a middle reliever, i was ticked. i thought they had traded away the next yovani. i was wrong.
  3. Victor roache has always reminded me of Nelson Cruz. If you jump into the waaaaaaaay back machine, you'll see a pretty similar early career stat line from Cruz--- lots of k's, some power, no avg--- in a ball. Then he just found his swing when the crew got him. Since then, he seems to keep getting better; even after his ped suspension, he hasn't seemed to run out of new ability. Roache seems a lot like this... If he really is like Nelson, I sure as heck hope we don't pointlessly include him in a trade this summer like we did when we traded Carlos Lee.
  4. Maybe they were just waiting until they had a replacement lined up.
  5. halfway through the week, and you could make a winning argument that Coulter should still be #1
  6. I've got an andrelton simmons from last year?
  7. I think the 2003 Brewers might have actually been better than the team that's going to be on the field tonight.
  8. The thing that wastes the most time during a baseball game by far is the pitching change. If you want to speed up the game significantly, force pitchers to face a minimum of three batters, and quit allowing them warm up tosses on the mound, or limit it to 3 or something. The only time a relief pitcher isn't completely warm when he enters the game is if it's because of an unexpected situation. Other than that, the warm up time on the mound is a waste. especially if you have to sit through it 3 times in one inning...in a 4 run game.
  9. the team can still grab one of those guys at less money as we get closer to spring training.
  10. I'm thinking that by adding Cotts it will allow Smith to be stretched out. I'm going to guess the Brewers plan on having Thornburg or Smith in the swingman role this year. Both guys were starters in the minors---Thornburg was in line for a starting job with the Brewers until the Garza signing last year.
  11. This is a good move... Even odds he's better than Zach duke for what I'm guessing is 2-3 million on a 1 year deal.
  12. it should be an older non prospect type on the 40 man. so, pick your poison from that group. Hall or Goforth i'm looking in your general direction
  13. Im guessing the Brewers have looked into how much cash Krod wants and how much cash they can get with Paps and decided that its cheaper to acquire paps. If the phillies kick in 4-5 million for 15 and 16, then this becomes paps for less than 10 million a year, and a decent deal. He's a better pitcher than krod, and gives us a stout back end with broxton.
  14. Jose Abreu was different---that was a free agent contract. Now, your beef about Appel vs. Moncada is completely legit. It makes you wonder if the Yankees or whoever signs Moncada would dish out 100 million for the #1 pick in the draft, if they ever had it.
  15. he hasn't pitched well in the majors since Braun was drafted.
  16. Oh, i agree with that for the most part...Pudge was surrounded by guys that have been busted on his team in texas though, and that gives the voters at least a circumstantial argument
  17. Piazza and Pudge both carry Roid suspicions...which is why they have a harder road into the hall. Without a doubt first ballot hall of famers otherwise. I think they will both get in, just not as quickly as some of the guys from that era that don't have the "possible" baggage
  18. this is, of course completely true...al told me about talking to the devil cubs today...the process is so interesting first hand.
  19. I think cabrera will wind up someone's starting shortstop. And I think it will be for more money than you guys are suggesting. I suspect he will sign an incentive laden one year deal somewhere that lets him run a lot, and try to rebuild his value so he can go for a big deal next year.
  20. Mayberry looks like a great option to me as he can play OF, should cost about 1 million, and is easily released if he loses it. Shouldn't touch the field against a Righty.
  21. As we have followed some prospects in the past because of close contact through forum members, we can do the same with Al. I won't post much about it but I work at Columbus high school, and as such have contact with Al. I will fill you guys in when I here things that I feel like I can share.
  22. http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/2014/11/19/3423076_columbus-al-jones-and-khayla-lloyd.html?sp=/99/210/&rh=1 Al Jones signs with Vandy---has met with Brewers in recent weeks
  23. or that all of his balls in play are very weakly hit grounders and popups
  24. I'm sure mgmt took this into consideration when they made this deal---LaRoche is far from a complete player or guaranteed answer at 1b, would have cost more money and likely years, and has the same hitting issues that Lind does. Lind was acquired for marginal cost and doesn't really stand in the way of the Brewers acquiring another young player that could eventually replace him. This is the kind of move that I like---much better than just waiting for the best player left on the free agent pile at the end of February. as for the money paid to Lind---if you assume marco was going to be tendered, and we should, because he wa a valuable commodity, then Lind really only adds the difference between what marco would get in arbitration this year and Lind's deal---likely 2.5 million dollars. This isn't a perfect fix-all, but I'm not sure there is one floating around the majors right now. Offense is really down, even at 1b. Very few teams have premier prospects at 1b, truthfully, our 1b prospect situation isn't that terrible---we could play Rogers and hope for the best. But this trade makes the team better---and i don't think signing LaRoche or Morse would have been better for the team---I think they would've been worse.
  25. I know with confidence that the brewers are talking to Al Jones...he's a name to keep an eye on. He's probably a better fit as a sandwich pick, but I doubt he'll sign unless he goes first round.
