  1. you sound like you are saying its ok as long as the sixth grader is fine with it, al i don't think you mean to sound like that, just letting you know
  2. As brian suggested in the chat room: It's pretty cleear than Yo is Wolverine, so I'm not worried... just a sickening two minutes when he was writhing on the ground... i still cannot believe he stayed in the game
  3. catch up with the prospects... just a heads up, take all discussion to the minor league forum
  4. This had to happen...Turnbow was incapable of getting outs...not even useful in mop up role...welcome back Joe...
  5. it will be up within the hour...give a guy a break...survivor, office, and lost came on tonight! Edit: New P50 is up...and we made some pretty big changes this month...Enjoy!
  6. Gillespie started offf hitting .200 with no power last year as well, then wound up with very good Brevard numbers... of course, to put an exclamation point on that, Mat Gamel only hit like 2 homers before the all-star break last year...
  7. The issue is that without power, the opposing pitchers just stop throwing balls...if the worst damage a hitter can do is hit a single, then why risk walking him??? as to your examples Battlekow...those guys are probably good comps...and they all play premium defensive positions and not LF...and that kind of success has proven impossible for those guys to maintainwhich is what concerns me...i think people arre looking at Brant;ey's numbers and seeing Fukudome, when really they might should be expecting Luis Castillo except as an outfielder and with less peak stolen bases..
  8. Dhonks--- That's definitely true... but we both know his obp won't stay that high if his slugging dips below .400
  9. what the hell is going on in the southern league? Mat Gamel and Laportaa are on their way to slugging Prince Fielder's OPS there a few years ago... Even if it is just an aberration, the numbers from that lineup are absolutely sick...people just don't do that there... as mentioned many times before, Corey Hart won the MVP of that league with an .807 OPS... for comparison's sake, Miguel Cabrera's .365/.429/.609 in 260 ab's is about what Mat gamel's on pace for right now (though Miggy was 20) I have no idea how to compute these numbers...Huntsville is a suck place to hit...i don't want that to get lost on people less familiar with this...Mark McGwire posted a .960 OPS there in the 80's...Ryan Braun a .956 OPS... craziness...
  10. I think Brantley skipped A+ for several reasons 1. He is a more advanced hitter than cain/chapman/ford/fermaint 2. there was little reason to send him to a place where he'd have even less power 3. they were ready to challenge him at a higher level and there was no where to put him in A+ and he's definitely going to send a couple more years in the minors because he's not better than the options in the majors...who will be there for awhile...and they shouldn't trade any of the guys ahead of him until he is more of a sure thing..
  11. oh im not doubting that he's exciting...its just very hard to project him and temper your enthusiasm at the same time... i doubt he sees the majors until 2010 though, so he should have plenty of time to develop power...which begs the question: Did the Brewers skip him over BC because they didn't want the powerless hitter in a powerless environment? He should play all of this season in AA and then at least one full season in AAA...but he could be at AAA for a few years because he's definitely behind Laporta and the guys in the majors on the outfield depth chart...and he's considerably younger than everyone as battlekow mentioned above..
  12. Brantley needs to slug .400 or so to place himself to be an mlb regular in the outfield and he needs to stick in CF...if he can be a .300/.400/.400 guy in cf, then he'll be a starter...so his defense needs to be good...without any power aat all, he needs to stick at a premium defensive position...he doesn't have the glove of ford or cain, but he is certainly a more professional hitter... what makes him odd is that his lack of power is very hard to project...right now he appears to be somwhere in betweeen jason tyner and luis castillo...watching the brewers with TGJ is probably a decentt corollary, though Brantley is a better hitter without the glove of Gwynn... he needs more power to be an above average starter...because MLB pitchers turn guys like Brantley into Juan Pierre when they reuse to walk people...Brantley will get plenty of strikes in the majors..
  13. lexi--- I don't think he meant to downplay Mat's accomplishment's...i think he was just surprised to see Mat batting .367...that's Hall of Famer territory
  14. unil he makes a movie that doesn't have a "twist" ending, I will continue to not be surprised by the twist..
  15. i'm just glad to have 3 pinch hitters again...
  16. nah toby, you said he'd be higher than braun on the power 50 by the end of the season http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif i'm going to a couple of the huntsville games in montgomery this weeekend...i'm stoked to see gamel play...i haven't seen him since 2006...the way he's hitting now, he just seems like a different guy...lorenzo cain was clearly the superior hitter 2 years ago...that in itself just seems like a ridiculous statement in hindsight..
  17. that's right, Zelous Wheeler tales the #1 spot finally...
  18. i think you are generalizing a ton here... i think the guys are pressing and trying to do something at the moment...and i agree with the point about hitting to the opposite field, but just getting them to hold the bat with both hands isn't a solution for anyone above high school
  19. havent lost my mind.. i think the team has 11 capable pitchers without bush, turnbow, or mcclung... i don't want tbow or mcclung throwing meaningful innings, and this is afurther step to keep that from happening...when the team returns to 12 pitchers after sheets start, one of those guys will be gone...then we will have 11 good pitchers and a mop up guy.... i'd much rather use tbow or mcclung when we are down four than waste bush in that role...bush needs to be kept as an alternative to a hurt starter and that's what they are doing... i would have sent parra down, but its hard to argue that he's more deserving of being sent down than bush...the team is trying to win and prepare for more... i guess i'm surprised that you are so insulted by this move...it's not a huge deal...besides, bush has been below expectations for a couple hundred innings now...clearly, the team is trying to focus the most work on the best players... so, don't blame this move on the gm...if things go badly, it will be because ned misuses his options...and truthfully,
  20. I can live with this... the team has shown adesire to keep the best players in the fold---which they've shown by keeping the youth up and in important roles over the veterans...villy, parra, now stetter...this shows a desire to win and not hold back anymore.. sure, turnbow and mcclung suck, but one should be gone after sheets demonstates his health and the other won't thow any meaningful innings... and bush is ready to come back up and start the moment someone breaks down... its a smart move...just not the kind of move we as brewer fans are used to seeing... the fact that we now have two major leaguers pitching in AAA reveals unbelievable depth...our AAA rotation is likely better than some mlb rotations at this point...especially if vargas could have somehow been kept
  21. well. Mat Gamel is officially an a prospect in my book now, even if he has to play left field... craziness...
  22. you see, i think that's overly optimistic for a guy that's only hit 40 doubles and 2 home runs in his career...in about 1000 ab's... i guess i just don't think he's gonna be that guy...i think he's much more unique than that...i still like the daric barton comp i mentioned the other day...he could feasably hit 5 homers a year and 30 doubles...that puts him close to barton...a .300/.400/.400 line would work really well...
  23. Tony gwynn is not a fair comp at all...brantley struggles to slug .400---projecting .500 is beyond wishful thinking...
  24. Nelson is still a prospect...but he's a limited one...he's not going to be a star...and he probably won't even be a starter...but punch off the bench and the ability to play 4 positions... i really think either he or LaPorta will be the DH in the interleague series on an unrelated note, Zelous Wheeler is getting on base a ton...OBP at nearly .450 coming from a second basemen in his age 21 season...I'm impressed and can't wait to see this guy play at some point this season..
  25. if fermaint can't hit this year. they'll just bench him...there's little point in demoting him again... and yes, the crrew usually promotes a few guys at the all-star break but never more than 2-3 per team...
