Brevard County Box Score: Mike Bell is definitely a prospect...he doesnt walk anough, but he's got some pretty serious pop for a middle infielder...with his average steadily rising for the past month, his stats are beginning to look decent as well...Lorrenzo Cain has had a rough season, but he still has the ability to pull this one out of he gets hot over the next month... www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._dbcafa_breafa_2 Brevard County game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._dbcafa_breafa_2
  4. Final: Iowa (Cubs) 8. Nashville 7 Nashville Site Game Summary Cubs Down Sounds In Series Finale, 8-7 Date Posted: 7/22/2007 DES MOINES ? Felix Pie belted a grand slam to key a six-run fifth inning for the Iowa Cubs in an 8-7 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Sunday afternoon at Principal Park in the finale of a four-game series. With the win over the Sounds (62-40), Iowa earned a series split and reduced Nashville?s lead in the PCL American Conference Northern Division to 5 ½ games. The Sounds finished their road trip with an even 4-4 record. The teams combined for 15 runs on the afternoon after scoring only 15 total runs between them in the first three games of the series on Friday and Saturday. Nashville lost Sunday?s game despite out-hitting Iowa, 15-7, in the contest. Nashville took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning with a two-out rally against Cubs starter Cory Bailey, who was the Sounds? closer in 2000. After the first two batters of the frame were retired, Charles Thomas and Drew Anderson (3-for-5) ripped back-to-back doubles to account for the first run before team RBI leader Joe Dillon increased his total to 69 on the year with a run-scoring single to right. The Sounds added a run in the fourth when Algona, Iowa native Brad Nelson continued his strong series with a leadoff double to the wall in right-center then scored on Vinny Rottino?s RBI single to increase the lead to 3-0. Nashville starter Elmer Dessens, making his second rehab appearance with the club, retired the first 10 Iowa batters in order before the Cubs broke through for a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pie (3-for-4) reached on a one-out single and came home on Matt Murton?s two-out RBI double into the right field corner to pull the home team within 3-1. Nelson continued his big day in the fifth when he belted a two-run homer to right off Bailey to increase the Nashville lead to 5-1. Dennis Sarfate took over on the Nashville hill in the bottom of the fifth and ran into immediate trouble. After Iowa loaded the bases with a single, double, and walk to open the frame, the right-hander issued a five-pitch walk to pinch-hitter Jorge Cortes to force home Geovany Soto and make it a 5-2 game. Eric Patterson followed and drew another bases-loaded walk from Sarfate, who was removed after facing five batters and retiring none of them. Patterson?s walk plated Josh Kroeger from third and decreased the Nashville lead to 5-3. Greg Aquino inherited a no-out, bases-loaded jam from Sarfate and promptly gave up a grand slam on his second pitch to Pie, the Iowa outfielder?s ninth home run of the year. The blast to right, the second slam allowed by Nashville pitchers this season, propelled the Cubs to a 7-5 lead. The Sounds pulled back within a run at 7-6 in the top of the sixth when Anderson tripled with one out a then scored on a Thomas groundout, but the Cubs responded in the bottom of the frame when Kroeger belted a one-out solo homer to center off Nashville reliever Marino Salas, the first baseman?s seventh roundtripper of the year. Vinny Rottino (3-for-5) made it a one-run contest once again at 8-7 in the top of the seventh as the Sounds scored for the fifth consecutive inning. The backstop ripped a two-out solo homer to left-center to greet Cubs reliever Ben Howard, his eighth longball of the year and first in over a month. Nashville had a chance to tie the contest or take the lead in the top of the eighth inning when it loaded the bases with two outs against the Iowa bullpen before Andy Abad was caught looking by Clay Rapada to end the inning as the Cubs escaped the jam unscathed. Bailey (3-1), who left in line for the loss before Iowa?s six-run outburst in the fifth, picked up the win after allowing five runs on 11 hits over five innings in his second start of the year for the Cubs. Rapada recorded the final four outs to notch his team-leading 15th save for Iowa. Sarfate (2-6) was saddled with the loss after he allowed five runs on two hits and three walks and did not retire a batter in his 28-pitch outing. Dessens turned in another solid rehab outing for the Sounds but did not factor in the decision. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits while striking out four batters over four innings. He threw 52 pitches, 34 for strikes. In two outings, Dessens has posted a 1.35 ERA (1er/6.2ip) with no walks and six strikeouts for the Sounds. The Sounds take Monday off before opening an eight-game homestand on Tuesday at Greer Stadium. Nashville will welcome Fresno (AAA-Giants) and Sacramento (AAA-A?s) to town for four-game series, their lone meeting with each club in 2007. Left-hander Zach Jackson (9-5, 4.79) will man the bump for Nashville in Tuesday?s 7 p.m. series opener and face Fresno left-hander Travis Blackley (7-5, 4.62). 5. im so sick of this nonsense... barry bonds is just a baseball player...he has about as much impact on anyone's life as garfield the cat...i suggest just letting it go.
  6. i think someone will be traded in the next two weeks.. regarrdless, gross hasn't done much this year...wherther thaat be his numbers or his lack of playing time, it doesnt really matter... i know that balfour is out of options...but is manny? i think the team is carrying too many pitchers, but really what should they do?
  7. i always thought biodome was really funny...it probably had something to do with my age when it came out...
  8. anyone get that umbrella? i actually woulda like that..
  9. I say just get villy a few starts in here and there and make sure you have a very quick hook with yo...todays move was perfect...he shouldnt throw over 6 innings ever... honestly, if the brewers are up by more than 3, or down by more than 3, i'd yank him in the 5th every time out...they've really got too take care of this, because i'm pretty sure we want him to have 15-20 innings in the playoffs...
  10. Other than injuries, he's dominated everywhere...he throws mid 90's and he's a lefty...if it weren't for the injuries, he'd have been in the rotation in MKE 3 years ago...i've seen him throw, and he's not roger clemens, bu he's definitely a 2/3 if he peaks well..and no worse than a 4... he's a starter not a reliever long term...
  11. it's possible that manny was on a plane back to nashville...
  12. this tv looks sweet, you guys should all buy 3
  13. i think that .800 OPS and 25 homers was about the projected peak, so i don't think that was crazy...
  14. i buy everything on ebay, but i hink the 360 is the one thing i'd buy new.... these hings break, and i'd want to have as much maanufacturers warranty as possible...i also wouldn't sut someone to send me one that hadnt already had problems.. i say buy a ps3...for some reason everyone hates sony right now, which is oddd because the same people used to hate microsoft...sony made a better product last generation, i believe that the ps3 is a better product than the 360 as well...so after you've gotten a wii, i say go ps3 next..
  15. let me throw out a very likely possibiliy... he was playing way over his head for the first two months, and now he's playing below his ability...allowing his numbers to regress towards what was eexpected of him...something like 25 homers and an .800 ops
  16. man, your store needs some fixin'
  17. i think he's still hurt...and that he should probably be dl'ed again...for an extended period with rehab assignment...
  18. my english degree makes it easier to teach high school...at least in my opinion...
  19. coffee.. i love coffee... grinding my own beans and sticking my nose in the grider to smell...awesome.. coffee is definitely not bugging me...though it is making sure i'm wide awake right now..
  20. i'm holding out for a personal helicopter that also is a slurpee machine...
  21. robyn hitchcock? Captain Beefheart?
  22. dont forget...it could be hernan irribarren...or mike bell... if this is for real, cool...it certainly makes the team better at maybe the most minimal cost ever..
  23. Final: Huntsville 5, Tennessee (Cubs) 1 A nice spot on a rough evening... Huntsville site game summary: Heether Hammers Homer in Stars' Win Adam Heether and Steve Moss hit home runs in support of Derek Miller?s strong seven inning effort on the hill in Huntsville?s 5-1 victory over Tennessee Wednesday night in the second of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars won their ninth straight game to improve to 16-11 in the second half and 53-42 overall, while the Smokies dropped to 13-14 in the second half and three games behind the North Division front-runners. The Stars have taken five of the last six meetings between the teams after dropping four out of six at Smokies? Park to open the second half. Heether?s sacrifice fly in the first inning gave Huntsville the early lead before Matt Craig led off the second inning with a home run, his ninth of the season and third against the Stars, to get the game tied. Miller allowed only a Joe Simokaitis double in the fifth and a Craig single in the seventh over the rest of his outing to pick up his first win at the double-A level. He struck out seven, walked one, threw 64 of his 86 pitches for strikes and belted a double in the third inning for his first professional hit. Heether belted a two-run home run off of Smokies? starter Paul Schappert in the third to put the home team in front to stay and a two-run blast by Moss in the sixth finished the scoring and finished the night for the Tennessee southpaw. Schappert dropped to 3-6 after giving up six hits, walking four and recording only one strikeout. David Johnson worked a perfect eighth inning and Luis Pena pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the win and extend the bullpen?s shutout streak to 18 straight innings since the ninth inning last Wednesday night at Chattanooga. The series continues Thursday night with Stars? left-hander Lindsay Gulin taking the hill against Smokies? southpaw Donnie Veal. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. 24. Final: New Orleans (Mets) 4, Nashville 1 Nashville site game summary: Sounds Fall To Zephyrs, 4-1 METAIRIE, La. ? The Nashville Sounds dropped a 4-1 decision to the New Orleans Zephyrs on Wednesday evening at Zephyr Field. Nashville (59-38) was held to four hits on the evening as it dropped its second contest in the last three games against the Z?s. Cleanup hitter Joe Dillon recorded three of the Sounds? four hits in the contest. New Orleans starter Jason Vargas (7-5) held the Sounds in check all evening in earning the victory. The left-hander allowed two hits while striking out seven batters over his seven innings of work. The Zephyrs struck first against Sounds starter Zach Jackson, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Jesus Feliciano opened the frame with a walk and scored two batters later on Marlon Anderson?s two-out RBI double to center. New Orleans scored single runs in each of the next three innings to increase the lead to 4-0. Andy Tracy belted his team-leading 20th home run of the year to lead off the fourth before a pair of Jackson wild pitches in the fifth and sixth allowed two additional runs to score. The Sounds broke up the shutout bid in the eighth inning against the New Orleans bullpen when Chris Barnwell led off with a double and later scored on a Drew Anderson groundout. Anderson went 0-for-4 to snap his season-best hitting streak at 10 games. Jackson (9-5) took the loss for the Sounds after allowing four runs on six hits in six innings. The southpaw fanned a season-best nine batters in the losing effort. Ivan Maldonado worked a scoreless ninth for New Orleans to notch his seventh save. Reliever Marino Salas made his career Triple-A debut for the Sounds with a scoreless inning that included one hit allowed. The Sounds will look to earn a series split when the teams wrap up the series with a 7 p.m. finale on Thursday evening. It will be a battle of southpaws as Nashville left-hander Adam Pettyjohn (5-2, 3.86) is scheduled to face New Orleans lefty Adam Bostick (3-5, 6.71). Nashville Box Score: As much as i think Joe Dillon deserves a hot, his season really in't that much different from the one Kevin Orie had a couple of years ago...or the one Brad Nelson will probably have when he's 31. Joe should come up if another bat gets hurt, but he's not very different from a lot of guys that destroy AAA with regularity. It's not all bad though, this season will help Joe get a good deal next year, and since he's on the 40 man, he's being paid like a king in AAA. I hope the Brewers give him some swings in September... www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._nozaaa_1 Nashville Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._nozaaa_1 Edit: accidental emoticon
