  1. This. For 2017, if the Brewers are to acquire a possible TOR arm, I would much rather take on salary and keep top prospects that it would take to acquire a Gray. Taking on a substantial amount of Verlander's salary should not preclude the Brewers from making other moves if need be given most of the Brewers position players are pre-arbitration or have cost control. Verlander and taking on salary or Gray and giving up to prospects...I'll take Verlander. This is exactly what I was trying to say earlier. You guys just said it better.
  2. I guess if we are only giving up money I would be interested
  3. I think that the infamous sweet suits were 2001 though right? Thought I remember jeromy burnitz being a part of that.
  4. I do think that last replay clearly showed it hit his shin. Ball definitely changed direction. Yeah I'm not sure if it did or not, but still, make a call . We didn't lose this game because of umpires
  5. It didn't work but I "kind of" get what they were trying to do there.
  6. Always nice to get the lead... and man Shaw is impressive.
  7. I'm passing on him too except for a very minimal return (which won't happen).
  8. What an awesome movie. I go back and forth between Major League and Bull Durham as the best baseball movies of all time.
  9. Because of exactly what you just said- the injuries. Not to mention that Stroman has been much better the last two seasons and is a year younger.
  10. The point is that Gray is not a frontline starter and that the market is overrating him as such. No, it's not crazy to say that it's a bad idea to pay more than market price for an ace to attain a third starter. I don't overvalue prospects at all. I am however of the mindset that if you're going to be trading them you use prospects to acquire difference making quality and don't sell-low on them just to feel like we are doing something. If someone like a Stroman becomes available I am all in. In the meantime unless we get a sweet deal (we won't) count me out on overpaying for an oft-injured third starter like Gray.
  11. Spitballs, gloveless catchers, 500 inning seasons for pitchers, and segregation used to be part of the game too. Things change . I understand what you are saying, I just don't agree with it, and I don't think things always even out over 162 games. They've already had studies this year on who has benefited from the most blown calls, with the Dodgers far and away benefiting the most. I guess whether they do a great job depends on your perspective -- in comparison to what the average Joe could do, I suppose so, but you'd be amazed at just how many balls and strikes alone are called incorrectly just over the course of a single game. If that many balls and strikes are called incorrectly then they will eventually even out for both teams. And for the record, I said nothing about nostalgia in support of keeping human umpires. I said I like the human element of the game and its being imperfect. Segregation or other examples you use has nothing to do with my reasoning here.
  12. Lord have mercy! That would be a tremendous overpay by the Brewers!!!! I could see a deal like that for Stroman, but Gray? Wow You do understand that in 2016/2017 combined Gray has a 4.86 ERA (with a pitchers park as a home field) with a 1.354 WHIP and an 84 ERA+ Agreed. In no way does Stearns make a deal like this without vastly overpaying. For Stroman this would be a fair deal. For Gray this is a disaster. And stearns owes the organization his best, not this year's current team in my humble opinion. Those aren't necessarily the same thing.
  13. Just make a fair offer and send me a PM. I have one of two still available ailable.
  14. Maybe I missed something but if you don't think we are actually in contention now then why trade for Sonny Gray?
  15. Could Stearns saying that actually be the correct move?
  16. Are you being serious? Yeah, I understand that.....I think it was pretty obvious I wasn't being serious. A bad call is annoying. It doesn't mean I'd prefer to rely on a machine to call strikes and take a great deal of the nuance out of pitching and catching. How does it take the nuance out of pitching and catching? Pitchers are still going to look for weaknesses and try to hit corners. How does that change anything other than discovering, "Hey, this umpire is giving 3 inches off the outside corner unfairly, so let's try to hit that spot that isn't a strike but will be called a strike." That's the part of the game you want to preserve? I for one enjoy the fact that baseball is imperfect and subject to human nuance and error. Wish that they would take away instant replay for the same reason. To each their own I guess . I do not enjoy seeing hard fought games and even pennant races decided when a 55 year old man gets caught up in the emotion of the game and expands the strike zone by 3 inches with 2 outs in the 9th. I enjoy watching the 50 people involved in each game play the game within the best of their abilities and would like to see them exclusively decide games and races. Santana should have scored earlier in the game which would have made it 4-4 and Shaw should have been on 1st with nobody out in the 8th. These might have tilted the game in our favor. Maybe we go on to lose the division or miss the playoffs by 1 game. They have the technology to fix that . To me that's not acceptable that we should be robbed of that opportunity in the name of nostalgia. Well over the course of a 162 game season things tend to balance out so using one inning of one game out of the 162 game season strikes me as warranting a small sample size alert. All in all I'd say the umps do a great job over the course of the year and the human factor is just part of the game.

  18. I think that at the end of the day the difference in my thinking with Gray is that in no way do I think he's an ace or worth an ace-like return.
  19. We don't know really know who is or isn't available but if the price is too much for someone like Gray we simply walk away. No one has said we need to make a move. That being said, if a guy like Stroman becomes available I am willing to throw the prospects mentioned earlier in a trade for him without thinking twice.
  20. I was just about to put up a couple on eBay but I decided to hop on here first. PM me if you're interested. Thanks!
