  1. You had to remind me of Kevin Mench....
  2. You may very well be correct but serious/non sarcastic question: do you have a source with the Cubs that told you that or something? I haven't seen that and am just wondering if you were privy to something that the rest of us aren't. Quite possible I also just missed something as well.
  3. That's maybe if Sonny Gray is still viewed as one of the top starters on the market by the deadline this summer. Gray's 2016 numbers, injury, and first start this year make that at least a bit of a question mark despite his history.
  4. I hate these non-tv games. I work from home most days so it's great to be able to throw on a game in the background while I am working. End of complaining.... go Brewers!
  5. We are going to be playing Game Three of the entire season this evening. Can the Villar haters please just take a breath and give the man at least two weeks worth of games?
  6. Well, Peralta is not Lucroy. Gallo would actually be a pretty fair trade for Peralta. Not that I want that to happen, or think it will. But his name at least makes sense in the context of a Peralta trade, where it never made any sense in a Lucroy trade. All of this Peralta talk with the Rangers is a smoke screen anyhow, Braun is the one who will be traded. Gallo and.... Yeah... that makes some sense. My point though is that Stearns didn't seem to express much interest in Gallo (from what was being reported) at the time. Maybe that changes for someone like a Peralta but I still don't think he really fits the mold of a Stearns type acquisition.
  7. When you quote me like that I can see why that seems unfair. I didn't mean it to sound that harsh but what I do mean to say is that I think that Gallo's potential ceiling isn't nearly as high as some others might. I am far from convinced that he is going to be a decent productive hitter over the long-term at the major league level.
  8. Because most people don't know much about any other prospects. He's easy to target and write in a trade proposal and call it good. LOL... yep. Pretty much sums up my sentiments exactly.
  9. Why in the world are we talking about Joey Gallo again? He has proven that he is incapable of being anything other than a career minor leaguer in my eyes and to give up anything for him (except in a salary dump) seems to be a waste of time and resources. I think I am correct in remembering that Stearns basically wanted nothing to do with him in the Lucroy deal which is how we ended up with several of their top prospects besides him. I just don't understand the infatuation for a guy who I suspect will end up with less than 30 big league career home runs. Also, not to be a Debbie downer but I tend to think that it has been quite a few years since Tom Haudricourt has broken too many scoops. I suspect that if anything is happening with our roster involving pitching it will amount to far less than some blockbuster deal.
  10. Actually I do. I think it was an exciting moment for fans of US baseball and hearing the post-game comments made by Adam Jones, Marcus Stroman, and Jim Leyland were awesome. Quite frankly, I think that the lack of promotion outside of MLB Network has contributed to not many people (even diehard baseball fans) knowing much about the tournament. Maybe winning this year will change that in future competitions.
  11. I for one am very excited about the game between the US and Japan tonight. Let's hope that our offense can kick it into high gear against a very good Japanese team.
  12. I will second many of the sentiments here that baseball is unique as a sport in a way that football, basketball, hockey etc. are not. I should have also added as a caveat to my original post about wearing other teams hats while in their stadiums (not when playing Brewers) that I would NEVER wear a Cubs or Cadinals hat. Ever. I see a big difference between putting on an Angels cap while in Anaheim watching them play a random AL team then being willing to wear the colors of one of our hated rivals.
  13. I would guess that many of you also collect baseball stuff.... so each time I go to a different stadium I buy a hat and a shot glass for display in my basement (read man cave) that I just hang up to have a memory of the time I visited a city/stadium. I will wear that hat at the game in that stadium if they aren't playing the Brewers. I don't usually wear it out here at home in WI unless for a special occasion like when I wore my Indians cap during the World Series last October. I do think it looks kind of cool to have a room full of hats hanging around the basement though and am glad I started that collection as it leads to good stories with the people that come over to the house.
  14. I was actually going to post that too. If the Netherlands is able to field pretty much a whole team from their Caribbean islands then all the Puerto Ricans should be playing for the US. I agree wholeheartedly with these sentiments. Heck, even just having guys born in the US would be a nice start for Team USA. Looking at you Manny Machado and Adrian Gonzalez.
  15. I totally agree with this sentiment and think it is an issue that really needs to be addressed by the WBC going forward. I can maybe see having guys who were born in that country but now citizens of a different country playing for a team (In years past this would include guys like David Ortiz, Robinson Cano, Pedro Martinez playing for the Dominican Republic even though they had all become American citizens) but the "ethnicity" rule seems bogus to me. Mexico's team is highlighted by Americans: Adrian Gonzalez and Sergio Romo. Canada's team has American Freddie Freeman and is managed by American Ernie Whitt. Italy and Israel are majority American teams with guys who happen to have Italian great grandparents or who are Jewish. I guess Puerto Rico is a unique case as it's not a country but isn't a state either but even there all those guys are US citizens. Doesn't seem truly international until they get these issues resolved and, like you pointed out, have guys representing countries' that they have at least visited a time or two.
  16. Pretty surprised that no one has posted yet about the great ending to the US/Colombia game last night. I know that we were supposed to win the game relatively easily but it was a real fun game to watch especially against Quintana. Let's hope for more good things from the US/DR game this evening.
  17. I would agree with this. There are at least five games every year that a team loses that could have been won regardless of who is on the roster or what state of rebuilding a franchise is in.
  18. I am late to this thread but I don't think that more than a handful of people projected Mat Gamel to be the next Ryan Braun. I know that I certainly didn't. Also, assume that you mean Zach Davies when you keep saying Kyle Davies?
  19. I tend to think that it wouldn't take a return of Jimmy Nelson to net us Jeffress. I don't think he's a clubhouse cancer or anything but he certainly does come with some more baggage than he had when we traded him a short four months ago.
  20. Well it's because of his religion and his religion ONLY that he is an absolute media darling. I realize this is more the media's fault and not Tim's but please answer me this DocLuna 7... Why should Tebow get to ride the Son of God's coat tails while everyone else has to actually perform on the field in order to even get a 10th of the attention this guy gets? Swing and a Drive: I would answer your question with another question. Why does Tim Tebow being publicly religious bother you and/or make you think that he can't play baseball? As others have pointed out, even though he wasn't a Pro Bowler in the NFL Tebow did have a pretty impressive college football career. I am guessing that there are plenty of athletes at the high school and college levels who also are publicly religious and who do not make the NFL or professional baseball. I guess I just don't understand criticizing someone just because they are religious and think that it's a bit unfair. I think that it's also worth pointing out that Tebow did not spend the last ten years laying around at church camp. He spent the last ten years as a college/professional athlete in highly competitive environments and did well enough to last that long with some success.
  21. To echo what others have already said, thanks to both JJ and Joshua for being so gracious with their time and insight. I would love to see JJ back in a Brewers uniform soon because of his talent level but also because he seems like a genuinely stand-up classy guy who cares about this franchise and its fans.
  22. I get your point Patrick but I am with Logan on this one. There are numerous times that I have waited to back out with my truck simply because the people waiting rudely for me to leave were so lazy that they couldn't go park in a different spot that is a few feet further away. Good grief people can be ridiculous sometimes.
