Was thinking the same thing earlier tonight... I honestly didn't know who that was in the booth until they showed the names of the broadcast team. It definitely did not look like a man capable of winning a Cy Young award.
My gut reaction is that Gamel has a higher ceiling than LaPorta. I will have to check minor league stats when I have a bit more time, but I am convinced that Gamel will be the better major league player (if given the opportunity.)
Perhaps I missed it, but I didn't see this trade posted anywhere else on the site. Not too surprising of a pick-up for StL considering Lopez's struggles both offensively and defensively this year. I am also assuming it means we can put the Counsell to the Cardinals rumors from earlier this week to rest. http://www.foxsportsmidwest.com/08/19/10/Cardinals-acquire-Pedro-Feliz-in-trade-w/landing.html?blockID=293637&feedID=3708
I am glad that he's not going to St. Louis. Despite having a GM who apparently isn't working on anything for our club at the moment, it is at least somewhat mitigated by the Cards not getting him for the next couple of years.
I'm not sure where you get that sense from this article. I think he merely is saying that if traded he would play hard for whoever he was traded to. He does have a right to see what his value is on the open market, and until he leaves or says something far more controversial than what he did in this article I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
I don't think that he could wear the uniform of his new team, even if he had made it. It would seem like it would be a conflict of interest since he would have been Brewers property at that point.
Without getting too political, I would just add that it really seems a bit shortsighted on Yo's part. MLB had presumably scheduled the '11 All Star game for Phoenix long before this law was enacted. With MLB typically awarding the AS Game to a franchise who has either built a new stadium or renovated an older one (Kansas City) it would seem to make a lot of sense to keep the game in Phoenix for the sake of the Dbacks who haven't been able to host one in their first twelve years of existence. It's not as though MLB is making any sort of statement for or against the law by playing a previously scheduled (and marketed) game in AZ. I would assume that if Yo and the others really wanted to help out the Hispanic community in AZ the best thing that they could do would be to boost their local economy.
Did the Babe really call his shot? What would the career numbers for DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Bob Feller, and Hank Greenberg been like if they had not served in the military and missed years of playing time?
Escobar looks seriously lost at the plate right now. Is it me or do a seemingly large number of guys on our team swing at pitches high and out of the zone on a regular basis?
