  1. The irony here is the Orioles almost nixed the Bedard deal because of concerns with Adam Jones' hip! Since his first cup of coffee in 2002 Bedard has made more that 28 starts only once. He's never made it to 200 innings and only topped 141 twice. A really good pitcher if he's healthy, but that's tough for him to maintain throughout a full season.
  2. I agree. In fact, I'll go farther and suggest the season should have opened with Hart batting 3rd, Prince 4th, Braun 5th.
  3. I'm worried only because the approaches seem so wrong for so many of the hitters. I never understand why hitters at this level would have such terrible plate discipline, unless they simply aren't that good. Or the coaching approach is all wrong. I will admit I've been perplexed with the logic that puts last year's 3rd highest OPS player batting 6th.
  4. As near as I can tell if you live in the FSN WI market you will never get the dual feed of Brewers games. I didn't even know the Santana-Sheets matchup was on FOX. I watched it on FSN-WI.
  5. If Bush pitches really well tonight and Manny falls apart his next outing, it could very well be Manny's turn to go back to AAA. I suppose the situation could be the same with Villy.
  6. If you live in Wisconsin the only feed you get of Brewers games is FSN Wisconsin. So if they aren't carrying the game you are out of luck. The other team's broadcast is always blacked out. As an example, last Fiday's game against the Mets wasn't on FSN WI. It was carried by the Mets feed, but it was blacked out for me. Of course this makes no sense, but whatcha gonna do?
  7. The coolest thing this year on Extra Innings is they are carrying both feeds of a lot of games. I live in Wi so the other team's feed of Brewer games is always blacked out. I enjoy flipping between feeds on other team's games. It would be interesting to here what the homers from other teams say about the Brewers.
  8. I'm worried about Braun; not really about Prince at all. He only walked 29 times last year. This could be the biggest fall of all time for a ROY, if he doesn't stop swinging at every pitch.
  9. I wasn't suggesting that and I explained this point in a later post.
  10. Point taken rotoherb. Braun hasn't drawn a single walk yet. Raise your hand if, like me, you suspect his swing happy attitude is affecting the pitches Prince sees.
  11. I agree. from my perspective if you are paying a fee for either mlb.tv or ExtraInnings you shouldn't be subject to blackout.
  12. Villy hadn't thrown many pitches after 6, so I appreciate it was a tough decision whether to pull him or put him back out in the 7th. However, he didn't pitch particularly well in the 6th. It was clear to me the Reds' bats were catching on by the 5th inning. His margin of error was so slight and he just wasn't as dominating as he'd been earlier in the game. I can understand wanting CV to get through the 7th, but he should have been on a short leash. Someone should have been warming up in the 6th, ready to go in at anytime. Ned didn't lose this game, but he did get caught unprepared in the 7th. That was inexcusable.
  13. And finally, here's another one no one at DirecTV or MLB can explain to me. I live 140 miles from the Twin Cities. Every Twins home game is available to me on FSN North regardless of ExtraInnings subscribing. However, every road Twins game is blacked out! Doesn't matter if it's broadcast on FSN North or ExtraInnings. Customer service folks at DirectTV have told me I am wrong. I'll respond saying "I'm looking at the channel right now and it's blacked out"!
  14. Here's another blackout snafu that will make me livid tonight. FSN isn't carrying the Brew-Mets game tonight; it's only on locally in Milwaukee. I live 200 miles from Milwaukee. I have ExtraInnings. The Mets feed will probably be available on ExtraInnings, but you can rest assured it will be blacked out on my feed.
  15. You hit the nail on the head, pogokat. I like both the players a lot, but there's some selective memory going in this topic. Jr. was labelled a baby and a whiner by much of the media and fanbase in the 90's. He was accused of being selfish for engineering the trade to Cinncinnati, later accused of dogging it, and finally accused of not being a "winner" because he didn't want Cincy to trade him to a contender. Of course it was all a bunch of crap. The Big Hurt was also criticized for being selfish and a "clubhouse cancer" back in the day when the press had to dig up dirt instead being handed things like the steroid issue on a silver platter.
  16. Their pitching is good; the lineup solid, if not just a little bit scary. What I am most worried about the last few games is BrewCrew defense seems to be up to the same old shenanigans. It's better than last year, but still a lot of batted balls just out of reach of infielders recently and some bobbling with the glove.
  17. I knew someone would call me on that, but I was too lazy to explain myself better! No way would I argue Gross=Hart, or Gross deserved as much playing time as Hart in 2007. I's jus sayin in '06 they were similar. Hart: 256PA; .283/.328/.468 Gross: 252PA; .274/.382/.476 Anytime a 26 year old lefty like Gross puts up numbers like that in his first full season it merits a longer look the following year. I realize 2007 was more a function of Gross being blocked by Jenkins and not wanting to bench Hall while he got used to CF. But not getting Gross more playing time in 2007 was one of a handful of wrongheaded decisions made that contributed to missing the playoffs. OK, back to the topic.
  18. I've thought this since early last year. The guy had basically an identical season to Hart in 2006, yet he couldn't find his way into lineup in 2007. Ned seems bent on keeping his value low. Oh well, he's a good player; I hope he ends up on a team that values his talent someday. I have heard similar glowing reports about Kapler. He's like a great 5th OF'er, if there is such a thing. Sometimes it's better to have a good bench player on the bench than a talented guy who should be playing every day but is blocked by a starter. Kapler is a wonderful defensive player, can run a bit, and puts the ball in play. I'd rather have him on the bench in Milwaukee and Gwynn in AAA playing everyday trying to build some doubles power.
  19. This is tough because the team doesn't have a lot of LH bats. Still, I'd send Gwynn down to play CF everyday. If he hits at all, then next year they don't keep Cameron and they give Tony the bulk of the playing in CF. It's pretty clear Bush will go to the pen, imho. They might consider sending Dillon down instead of McClung. Seth will almost certainly be claimed by another team.
  20. Very sad news. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
  21. No probably not, but like I posted above, it's not unreasonable to think they'll finish with 1 or 2 in league average.
  22. I'd love to see them sign him again, but not at the expense of the young stars. I have always thought of Sheets as his generation's Curt Schilling. Schilling is probably done after this year, so look for the Red Sox to throw big money at Ben. He won't be able to turn it down. Some season soon the flukey injuries will stop and Ben will reel off 4-5 years of Cy Young type stats...
  23. Too early to get hung up on stats, but I don't see how Cardinals pitching can maintain that 1.83 team ERA. Brewers are 5th in team ERA which seems about right where you'd expect them to be. They are first in runs scored, first in average and slugging, 2nd in on base. It's not unreasonable to expect the Brewers to be 1 or 2 in the league in offense. It's way to early to make any definitive statements, but the Brewers seem to be performing at a level that is consistent with their talent, while the Cardinals' are riding a hot streak by the pitching staff.
  24. I think that's a bit facetious, calling him an above average player. The last two years his *OPS+ has been 120 and 122.
  25. I too am a girlie man. My favorite local pub is Packer and NASCAR crazy so every Sunday afternoon, there no jukebox and they turn up the TV. Ugh. I always ask Lori the bartender if we can turn to a Lifetime Movie. People get upset. Fortunately the bar also has a huge number of Brewer fans. So, I've learned to give the footballers and Nascarers their time, since they like to watch the Brewers too. Truthfully, I think Wisconsin is a great baseball state, especially compared to some place like, oh, I don't know, Minnesota. Or Iowa, where I grew up. As for fishing. I wish I did do that. I like eating good fresh walleye and perch.
