  1. Agreed. His career OPS is standing at .815 after 2400 plate appearances. It seems reasonable to expect at least the career OPS over the next 3 years, his age 29, 30, and 31 seasons. I'm thinking he'll be a little higher than that the next couple seasons as he's in his peak years, then will begin to drop off some. He should age pretty well through his mid 30's. fwiw, I just don't see that he's this godawful defender. Even if he is below average I think the difference between that an above average RF'er is fairly insignificant. The extremes are where the difference counts.
  2. September call ups don't count as an option year, though, right?
  3. Buck Showalter will get the Orioles back into this thing by mid September. All they needed was a stern taskmaster in the dugout.
  4. Great deal. I'm happy for him. Call this revisionism if you must, but Hart wasn't been as bad as we think the previous two season. In 2008, September was really the only horrid month. In 2009 he slumped for 5 weeks from early May to June 11th, then was hitting pretty well until the appendicitis attack. Once he returned in September he clearly wasn't up to snuff, but that was probably due to post surgery recovery. At worst he's a league average offense corner RF'er. At his best he's an All Star capable of near-MVP type numbers. This isn't a Bill Hall deal.
  5. Well, since May 27th, basically two months, Bush has made 11 starts (12 appearances), posting a 3.32 ERA. He went 4-3 in that stretch. I don't know if he can pitch much better than that.
  6. Sice June 1: Brews: 26-23 Cards: 25-22 Cincy:: 25-23 I expect the Cardinals to start pulling away from the pack any day. Maybe they already have. I don't want the Brewers to fool themselves and make some stupid trades for veterans, but I'm excited to see if they can get back in this just by playing better ball. They're still paying for that 9 game losing streak in mid-May and haven't shown they are good enough to rattle off a 9 game winning streak. Go ahead and listen to offers for Prince, Hart, Edmonds, and Bush, but if the only thing on the table are Haren type trades, don't do it.
  7. I think position players can stay on rehab in the minors for 20 days.
  8. Bad news for KC-looks like DeJesus is out for the rest of the year. That should increase the market for Hart.
  9. I don't see McGehee getting traded anytime soon unless a contender loses it's everyday 3B. That would be the best time to move him and bring up Gamel. Otherwise, he's fine; not every player needs to be a star or even project long term.
  10. If you sell high on every player, especially those which are cheap and you have control over, then your team is in constant rebuilding mode and will never get any better.
  11. I think the attitude comes from a fan base used to decades of losing, and payroll limitations.
  12. I guess the team's lack of effort performance has even affected Security.
  13. If Bush is traded, Capuano will be starting.
  14. Agreed. Flash forward to July 2011; if Prince and Hart are still on the team then Doug has misplayed his opportunity and he'll HAVE to make a trade. He should listen to any offers this year, but not make a move unless a team blows him away with an offer.
  15. He's had 3 games where he stunk, plain and simple. Against the Cubs it was 9 RA in 3-2/3, the Twins it was 9 runs in 1/3, last night 9 runs in the first inning. Yet his ERA is just 4.34. That tells me he's been very good at preventing runs in his other 17 appearances. And let's be honest. Poor defense is as much to blame for the 1st inning last night. They don't make 3 errors, the end of the inning is 5-0 and Brewers win the game 9-6. On a team with better infield defense Bush would have a better than league average ERA.
  16. What's amazing is he's doing it with a bottom of the order that's gadawful at getting on base. Except for the pitchers, they've generally been pretty good. Rickie must be running a 90% success rate with RISP, since Escobar and Gomez are so infrequently on base.
  17. Rickie Weeks has started every game but one this year.
  18. Only 12 walks in his last 8 starts and 31 K's. 50 ip. Not bad at all. One of my favorite pitchers ever.
  19. I'm thinking Edmonds will be given away in some minor deal very soon.
  20. I think his peripherals are skewed because he wasn't very good the first two months of the season. He's been pitching much better since June. His walk rate is 2.7 per 9. K rate 5.4. Those are much closer to his career norms than his starts this Spring. He was quoted a couple weeks ago saying he finally feels back to normal after his injury. Maybe his velocity isn't back, but his numbers certainly look like the guy who in 2008 and early 2009 was a solid 3/4 type starter. I've always thought with a better defense he's a multi year, $8-10 million per year pitcher. Tough to say where the contracts will fall this winter, but it looks like he's back to pre-injury form. Most Brewer fans I hang with have never liked the guy. He'll end up somewhere else, pitch about the same, and these same guys I know will moan how Bush was never this good as a Brewer.
  21. 9 appearances, 8 starts. Averaging better than 6 ip per start. 7/8 in quality starts-(the other start: 6ip, 4ER). 97 pitches per start. In all, 50ip, 2:1 K:BB, 3.06ERA, .262 BAA, .318 oba, .424 slg. BAbip: .283. Is he becoming Chris Carpenter, just like Ned predicted lo, those many years ago?
  22. The Orioles have no incentive to compete. Bud gave Angelos a sweet deal to let the Nats in town. Angelos owns the cable channel that airs Nats games and the value of the Orioles franchise is guaranteed to not fall below a certain level. So if the Nats get better and their TV ratings go up Angelos stands to make more money without increasing costs. If he slashes payroll on his own team and fans quit coming to Orioles games, no matter, MLB will keep the value of the team artifically high.
  23. Hall had fewer plate appearances that Gamel during Mat's time with Milwaukee. As I recall Macha said in Spring Training 2009, that every player had a clean slate with him. Hall had an incredible April and was still clinging to an .800+ OPS in mid May. I'm not saying it was right, but my guess is they were giving him a chance to prove he could hit again and April wasn't just a fluke. The team has invested a lot of cash in Hall. If there was any chance he could be at least average on offense they needed to know. Turns out there was no chance and he was dumped. Fans want decisions to be made fast. Organizations have to be more careful; they don't want to compound one mistake with an even bigger, impetuous blunder.
  24. Appearing 84% of your team's games when just getting called up to the majors for the first time certainly is. I think Invader sums up the debate perfectly.
